  • These are videos from the Introduction to Complexity course hosted on Complexity Explorer. You will learn about the tools used by scientists to understand complex systems. The topics you'll learn about include dynamics, chaos, fractals, information theory, self-organization, agent-based modeling, and networks. You’ll also get a sense of how these topics fit together to help explain how complexity arises and evolves in nature, society, and technology.
This course was developed by professor Melanie Mitchell, and is based on her book Complexity: A Guided Tour.

The study of complexity is so relevant, this examples make it even easier to understand, reminding us that there is still a need to spread this information. Great video.

This video definitely makes me understand better about the study of complexity, the importance of it too. In an easy way, it explains how simple things are actually being carried on by these very complex systems. Like the human genome example. A result, an action, is created by this knotted background making its way to something simple to the human eye. I really liked it.

It's a really great way of teaching how are we interconnected and how we all are a system. These also are good examples but it's more important if we start doing investigations based in this complex thinking considering all elements of this type of thinking.

Thanks for explaining an easier way to understand the complexity.
All video is fine, summarize in a sentence: "A major focus of complex systems research is to understand how individually simple agents produce complex behavior without central control".

The video has a way of showing different examples about complexity, this helps us understand what it is in a simple way. I personally was very intrigued by the example with the ants that are shown at the beginning, and how the video slowly explains every example with very detailed images.
    A great video.

Very interesting examples used. They helped me to know that complexity isn't only exclusive in the social sciences, but is applicable to other sciences. And the use of nature examples make it very easy to understand. It's excellent.

So many examples, and so simple, helped me to understand the characteristics of the complex systems, such as the organization without a central control or adaptation to environment. This is a great introduction for those, like me, who are entering the world of complexity. Excellent video.

Nice video! there are many analogies that will helps us, to understand how works the complexity in other systems, like animals, biology and the society, and how the communication is essential part of each process.

This video explain very well that nothing in the world is simple. It has excelent examples about the complexity. The one that i like the most it was the one that talks about the brain and the mechanism of this. cause i never thought that the neurones are like people and the brain is the society. I like this video very much, cause i appreciate better what complexity is.

Representing the concept of complexity with common things such as ants and the human body made it easier to understand what it is. I liked the different choosen examples shown in this video.

The video is interesting, easily explains the concept of complexity, how it behaves from the simple to the complex, as networks is a central theme in the understanding of the complexity and self-organization of peculiarities to achieve a structure.

    Increible video.

What concerns me is how there are comments from 4 years ago given this video has a date of Sep 13, 2018 and I am writing this on Mar 18, 2020... Perhaps that quantum eraser experiment messed up something in the timeline.

Its a very interesting video, cause it represents very well what complexity is with simple examples. With this type of videos its easier to understand some kind of themes that are in some point hard to understand, like the complexity cause it has too many stuff that can confuse us, but its easy to catch the information this way.

It`s a great video. Explains very well and makes me understand the complexity with simple examples of systems from various fields either social, of the human body or economic, and as mentioned, something fundamental is that have interaction networks although the systems are extensive.

It is so interesting and the same time nesessary brobably not to understan completly how complex reality may be itself unless we get closer to it. This video shows how complex it is and forms part of our life daily. It gives examples that are veru simple such as the the being of our own body may be a system so complex since each part plays its own role unique and particular and not only something that starts the continuation of a process.

@@misam2124 I'm interested to see how this stuff relates to in-memory, non-von Neumann computing. The brain is an example, we do all our computing using the same hardware we store data with. It's one of my pet interests. I don't know a lot about it but I just think it's cool. One day I hope we can create hardware on the molecular scale, with bits consisting of just a few atoms, and maybe set up the addressing in some clever way that lets us do reversible bit operations.
