Wow, this is actually a historic recording. Jean Guillou’s last Sunday as titulaire of St. Eustache. The next Sunday, the new co-titulaires began their service already!
After listening to a lot of music improvised, written or arranged by Guillou I can frankly assure any skeptic lestener that this improvisation is all but nonsense: it is actually a great display of imaginative and groundbreaking musical language, a consistent set of melody harmony and rhythm conveying energy, fire and majestic joy. If I hear someone talking enthusiastically in a foreign language I may not undertand the meaning of the words but I can understand the speaker's feelings.
Your appreciation is very relevant. Moreover, this improvisation of the release of the Mass of March 29, 2015 will remain historic. After a painful struggle "with" the parish priest of Saint-Eustache, Jean Guillou had just announced that he was accompanying his last Mass in this church. And this improvisation is the last after 53 years of service in Saint-Eustache. Always with this powerful, personal, original and mysterious emotional charge characteristic of great musicians. It is an epic that tells an epic ... To the association AUGURE which manages its work, we own its last 10 years in Saint-Eustache in high-definition multichannel 5.1. For when technical progress will allow to publish this work in all its power.
Since this is just an improvisation, its pure aim is to deliver the moment filled with musical ideas. And I love Guillou's ideas. If this is gonna be played on a space ship in 2200 it's still gonna be modern :-)
Jean Guillou é um dos maiores organistas dos últimos tempos. Sou fã dele e gosto da maneira radical como conduz seus concertos. É de uma majestade, de uma grandeza é incrível. Merci, obrigado!
Jean lives... as a light and an inspiration... . And will always live. His improvs... have certain moments... that are beyond compare, electrafing. Transportation upon Sound Itself and Harmonic Integrity... both ancient and new. Jean, MASTER... and moi anmee. ex-callibre IPX. Inpreture, Maximus en paratume. April 14, 2021... Damn it !

Why wonder such a thing? How does it help to appreciate something in 2016 played in a modern French idiom by imagining how someone living 100's of years ago would receive it? If you don't like this idiom, fair enough, but no need to invoke Bach. Guillou plays Bach very well, but with his own flavor.
@@WinrichNaujoks If a russian comes to you and speaks russian, or a corean comes and speak corean, or an arab comes and speaks arabic to you... you won' t understand him, because your native language is english/american. You then have two ways to consider this : 1. he just makes sounds and noises with his mouth, absolutely not a single word : complete nonsense. 2. he speaks a language i don't understand : I have to learn more.
Guillou (who passed away yesterday) was the "enfant terrible " of the Paris organ community. He sure WAS a master but his music is by far not everybodys taste 😁 maybe you look for some of his classical recordings. His contemporary compositions are..."difficult" to listen to

I wish that I had seen him live. Charlie O. introduced me to him today. He was a reason to go to church.

GENIAL ! Actuellement le plus grand Maître de l'orgue ! BRAVO !

www.jean-guillou.org/augure.html
+Philippe Ponçon not the same label or website....
+bombarde1701a
Yes, but it's the same music and you can order the CDs. And Guillou with ARGOS, it's probably finish today...
J'ai mal à la tête...
I wonder what Bach would have thought of this

Ok. I don't like it. I think it's complete nonsense. But that's my opinion.

so i read that Jean Guillou was/is one of the greatest organ players and the first thing i see of him is THIS. i am very underwelmed.

Boring
