- In this video, Anna and I Travel to Rattray Head to photograph the honey pot location that is..... Rattray Head Lighthouse.
Whilst here I got to sit down and have a chat to Kim Grant about why she does youtube? What she enjoys? and most of all, How come she is always so happy!
According to Wikipedia, Rattray Head, -historically Rattray Point, is a headland in Buchan, Aberdeenshire, on the north-east coast Scotland. To north lies Strathbeg Bay and Rattray Bay is to its south. The dunes at Rattray Head beach can be up to 75 feet (23 m) high and stretch 17 miles (27 km) from St Combs to Peterhead.
If you look on instagram (whilst your there, go follow me @wadger_catcher & our adventure account @the_nonsense_adventures) you can see how many photos there are. This truely is a honey pot location for Scotland and the north east of Scotland
When shooting a honey pot location, Such as Rattray Head Lighthouse, You will always find it hard to be original BUT are you taking the photo for you? or someone else? IF it's for someone else, shoot what they want. If its for you Shoot what you want!

Really enjoyed this Adam (both the meeting up and the final video). The bit where I went missing made me laugh SO MUCH "I can't see her...I think she's dead". Can't wait to shoot together again in the future :)
Yeah we were concerned, you can see the real panic in my eyes! I enjoyed meeting up! Looking foreword to somewhere central belt in February!
nice to see you two working together
Thank you Peter!
Below the thumbnail in my subscriptions, I see "Photographing Rattary Head Lighthouse..." and I think to myself. "Them's Kim Grant's stomping grounds..." Then I click... What a treat!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yup travelled up to meet her and shoot a local spot! Glad you enjoyed it
Another great watch and such a beautiful location yeah Kim has some nice videos and great places to see look forward to see more of you two working together
Thanks Fiona. Yup hopefully be more to come from us both. Her video goes live tomorrow. It's been on my bucket list locations for quite a while and I'd happily go back.
Nice time lapses Adam stunning location that you captured perfectly 👍
Thank you very much Chris!
Very enjoyable, you two should collaborate more often, think you could work well together 👍
We are hopefully meeting up in February and then see where and when after that!!
Great video mate, good to see you and Kim together. Richard
Thanks Richard. Her video from the day has gone live now as well. Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the images. Glad you finally got to meet Kim. Both my favorite Scottish bloggers in one video....awesome! Congrats on hitting 1k subs.
Thank you Tammy!! It was a really enjoyable day and yup, I'm really happy to have hit the 1k marker. 😁
great one adam! keep em coming!!
Cheers Chris. Thanks 😁
Until Kim teased her video, I had no idea that you had a channel. I've seen you previously with Brendan van Son as well as Mike and Chris Perea. Prior to that, your name always popped up in the comments of many of the photographers I follow. Hope the channel blossoms and enjoy the takeaway dinner.
Oooh I like hearing that people talk about me, hopefully only good things 😁🤣🤣. Thanks for coming along on the journey!
Always nice to mix it up one in a while. Like Kim said its not always about the shot, its nice to just get out. But... Great shots and a lovely chat!!
Thanks Steven. Glad you enjoyed it and yeah it's more about the experience rather than the image at the end!
Loved your video. I love this location and would like to photograph it some time at higher tide. Hello to Kim too. Love your bvlogs :)
Thanks :) I'd wanted to visit for a long time! It was mega far out 1st thing but it was coming in. Super high tide would be amazing.
Great Chat, you two are very similar!
Thanks Tom. Yeah we seem to have gotten on really well!
nice job adam Ive been enjoying Kims channel for a long time now. very cool that you have an opportunity to work with her
Yeah I've followed her since about 2k so it was amazing when she reached out asking if I'd want a colab! Cheers man!
Who would like to see more videos with Kim? Also please click that subscribe button as once I hit 1k, I get a takeaway dinner!!!!!
Winner, winner takeaway dinner
@@rambling_rambler yup. Trying to decide what I fancy!
Thanks, that would be cool. Found you through Kim... I like. Subscribed.
@@LuciaHewitt thank you for the sub, I appreciate it.
I've always said they are classic locations for a reason and even before social media you could go into galleries and see the same compositions pretty much in them all. Now it's harder but I think there will be opportunities to get something different, like Aurora or meteor showers or even weather conditions can change a composition completely. There's so many locations not been photographed in their best light yet so plenty to capture and me and the other ONE THOUSAND SUBSCRIBERS hope to watch you take us to a few. Congratulations well deserved.
Thanks Garry. You've been here the whole trip!!!! Very true about even going back to galleries! Yup lots to shoot, just beds comfy!!!
haha, i love this scene at ~02:40 with you two, absolutely fantastic :):):) hey, 980 subscribers are a lot. imagine they would all stand in front of you while you vlog ;) i wish you a great start into 2020, mate ;)
Ive started to realise I like just having fun infront of the camera, makes it easier to film 😂😂😂 you are right, I'm amazed I've got that many to be honest! Thanks Christian!
@@TheNonsenseAdventures Yes, vlogging is definitely fun. I also started a vlog this year. Really never thought that it could make so much fun ;)
@@christian.irmler yup I'm already a subscriber, I'm just terrible at commenting before autoplay takes me elsewhere in the youtubiverse
Congrats on the 1k Adam (you should have 10k}. Nice meet up vlog. When your b-roll was looking out on the lighthouse from behind the grasses and sand I was saying that would make a nice image 😉. Glad you stuck it in in the end of the video. Some lovely shots. 👏👏👏
Whilst I filmed it, I was like "oooh damn that's a photo" thanks for the kind words and support! Now go watch Kim's video as you get a shout out!!
@@TheNonsenseAdventures I'm famous!!!...... Now, thinking about changing my name to Jeff 🤣. Cheers Adam. I like going out photographing with you too.
@@davidharvey8816 good lad :) you do make a really good Jeff!
Hey Adam. Nice, Natural vlog with the two of you mate, well done! LOve the depth in some of these shots! Keep going with it all. Its hard though huh!?... Oh... and btw - you and your blooming Zainey hats. You have started my ZH addiction too, ya bugger! LOL Regards, Ewan (NZ)
Glad you liked it Ewan! Oh yeah it's hard to do it all along with busy time at work. Thing is, if I don't put stress of it on myself, then I feel I create better stuff and enjoy it more. Glad I've started a good addiction!!!! Cheers man!
Really enjoyed the video, your camera skills are awesome, Will need to check out Rattray Head, when I make my next trip home, hopefully next year. All the best for 2020.
Thank you very much for the kind words John, really appreciate it! Yup I want to re visit it again when tides in and maybe more colour 🤣
Enjoyed this Adam and hope you had a great day out with Kim. As you said, one of the most positive creators out there promoting this beautiful land we call home. Liked your various captures of the lighthouse too and hopefully you will do more collab vlogs in the future as out of all the channels I follow, you, Kim and Nick Hanson are the only Scottish creators I am subscribed to. Any other recommendations would be welcomed 👍
Cheers Scotty! Yeah really enjoyed my day with Kim, hopefully got another trip in February! Umm there's a few other Scots, accessible Photography, Mikey McManus, Stu mcmillan and there's an epic Instagram creator called visual creativity.
@@TheNonsenseAdventures Thanks Adam, will check them out.....Jim
@@scotty4418 let them know I sent you 🤣🤣🤣
I like your style, saw that you are also in Greg's film, thought I would check you out and I love it! You have a new fan, Charlie ;-)
Cheers Charlie, Yeah i'm on an adventure through youtube as well to see what others are producing! :D Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Adam, really enjoyed your video with Kim and I've also subscribed to your channel which looks great. Your recent video on mental health really touched me and I will put a bit of time aside to watch your Outer Hebrides videos which I very much share your love for. If you're in Edinburgh at any point this year please do get in touch, it'd be great to meet. Best wishes, David
Hey David! Thanks for joining the crew!! Glad you are enjoying the videos! Yeah I loved our hebridean trip! I'll keep that in mind for if I'm over your way 🤣
Nice one mate - perfect collab for you. I remember Kim's early vlogs when she was gobsmacked at the feedback she was getting about her channel and then came the TH call out and the rest is history. Perfect timing to pop your 1K cork mate - good on you
I think I maybe came over from the Heaton shout out, but can't remember. She has done brilliant with her channel and she is as friendly in real life!
great video kiddo... congrats on the 1k
Thanks Darren!!! Appreciate the help and support!!
And other great video and b-roll
Thank you Stuart!! I wasn't sure I'd filmed enough b roll until I got it onto the laptop!
Plus that’s intro gate to beach transition made me chuckle
@@stuartwatson3648 yeah had fun editing that part but I'm sure with time I could do a better one! It's all learning.
Loved the video Adam. Eh, you where on to a winner from the start! Based in my favourite country in the world, introduced me to another Scotland vlogger as well! Subbed Mate!!
Cheers Scott. Where abouts are you? Could try and meet up?
@@TheNonsenseAdventures I'm all the way down in Nottinghamshire Adam, but we holiday in Scotland every year. We just got back from Skye at the weekend and my daughter is studying iron age archaeology in the western Isles from Durham Uni. She doesn't drive so I get around Scotland a fair bit!! 😉
@@scotttilleyphotography doesn't sound like you are complaining about being the taxi 🤣 sounds good!
excellent vlog adam well done !!
Cheers Mark!
Great video! Do you two have anything else planned? Would be good to see some more collaborations.
Glad you enjoyed it Deb! Yeah should have some other stuff coming up.
is there something with your codec? the compression is really weird. do you export in youtube's H.264 codec?
Yeah I export in h264, I just followed the UA-cam guide for exporting. Filmed in very dark bits with m50 so there's high iso noise.
