Dave, you handled this call with so much love and grace. God bless you
I noticed that! 🙌🏾
I usually don’t like callers who call in these desperate situations, but this guy is likable. I think he will do ok and I’m rooting for him.
So you don't like people who live paycheck to paycheck?
Yeah he sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders and he took all of Dave’s advice and I think he’ll actually listen from the sounds of it.
He added fault for his actions and you can tell he wants to do right but isn’t sure of the steps. Once he secures any job and puts this behind him he will hopefully be on a greater path. Having accountability goes so far in life.
@@deadcell1 people who live paycheck to paycheck are messing up somewhere
@@catherinewilke5583 In most cases yes but some people are just dealt a bad hand. I know a guy who had his finances destroyed by a divorce and a year after his divorced he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His spent his last days scraping to get by..
Great show Dave, but it's time to find a calendar it's 2024 a thousand dollar car doesn't come with a engine anymore.
This
Lol I thought the same thing, I couldn't find a car on cinder blocks for $1k near me.
I drive a tow truck for a living and do occasional repos for local credit unions and the repo orders tell me what the monthly payment is, how much is owed, and how many months behind they are. I’m amazed at what people buy sometimes and how much they live outside their means. They’ll buy a $30,000 car and live in a house that’s falling apart and worth as much as the car. There’s so many I’ve seen 6 month or more behind on payments too and they’ll go out of their way to hide vehicles or they bounce around from place to place where they live so it can be difficult to find the car at times. I feel bad for people from the side of needing a car to get around but I don’t feel bad from the side of it where the bank owns it and they signed the loan and made a decision as an adult to do that and live outside of their means. I’ve ran into a few people who go crazy when I pick up the car since they can’t control their emotions and act like a mature adult. Majority of people understand and hand over the keys and keep it civil though which I appreciate. If you can’t afford it then don’t buy it. It’s really that simple. Buy a cheap car for 4-5 grand and use that to get around in. You’re not impressing anyone with a 2 year old Nissan Altima or Chevy Malibu and other vehicles like that.
@@silentnot4812i believe it and seen too many
@@jml9550This reminds me of a picture on social media where this lady was trying to flex in her Louboutin shoes (red bottoms, a $1,000 pair of shoes) in a dirty raggedy apartment with the tv on a cardboard box. @@iamkesha. haha. Yep, they need it to boost the confidence.
Sometimes people can afford it at the time then their life situation changes. Illness. Job loss.
The only way when you can afford it is pay cash in full.
You've got to admit, you have guys down and out like this call in and not know their next move. Then you got souls like Dave and Jade that gives this guy a plan and philosophy on the why in just a few mins. You can hear this guy light up as the call progresses. What they do here is so invaluable as advice for those people that ventured off their normal path in life. God bless
Not really. If this guy’s name was “Brian” they would have tore into him.
@@katiejon17such facts 😂
@@katiejon17 Why would they roast him?
I love Dave’s Mythical $1000 car. That’s not happening anymore especially if its going to pass a safety inspection.
Just last episode someone had just bought a $1,400 car and they immediately had $1,000 and $2,500 maintenances issues.
A bunch of car channels have in the past done "$500 road trip" challenges where they buy a car for $500 and drive it on a road trip. They won't do it but if the Ramsey company actually filmed a series on finding and driving a $1000 car I'd watch it. I'm betting they had to make concessions in it saying how hard it was to find a running $1000 car they could actually drive for a month.
They still exist here. They won't be nice, they won't be anyone's dream car, but they'll get you down the road for awhile.
@@Shortballa11 That guy was an idiot. Guarantee there was more to that story.

Had it happen as a dumb kid. I thought someone stole my car. Then I get a letter ron the mail and was like oh lol. My bad I was the thief haha. I went and got it back and paid it off later
The attempt was thwarted
Dave and Jade both know this... but the caller’s name wasn’t “Brian” so they dialed it back. Shameful of them.
@@katiejon17What are you talking about?
@@katiejon17 Exactly. They sure handled that one with kid gloves.
Dave again on the $1000 car. Just stop it. The previous clip posted on this channel had a caller that got a $1400 car that immediately needed $2500 of repairs, and then right after that needed another $1400 in repairs. Getting a reliable car for even $5000 isn't easy.
Another idiot that thinks "easy" is somehow relevant.
Yeah, I bought a van for $500, great van, but I had to put about $600 in just parts to make it reliable. I did the work myself but if I were to have a shop do it the bill would've been close to probably $3000. Those $1000 cars he keeps mentioning are more like $3000 minimum.
Used car dealer here.... agreed, it's rough out there.
Yeah, I do not agree with Dave on the 1k car 😂 very unrealistic. My younger sister wanted a car budget 3500 you ain’t getting anything reliable. High mileage or cars you know are reputable bad and needs repair. 5-8k is your best bet for something to get by.
Lol righ even 5000 is not easy
You have to take a job within walking distance or on a bus route and buy a 3k car. Ubering will cost you as much as a rental car would. I see guys walking everyday down my street wearing a walmart or burkegking shirt. I give them respect for doing what they have to do to survive.
If you are Ubering back and forth to work. That will be your whole paycheck.
@@jimmymcgill6778 Exactly! I have made a lot of financial and emotional mistakes in life but one thing my father instilled in me was too have more than 1 vehicle because if I go out to leave for work and my car doesn't start you have to call out of work and then figure out how to fix your car. Just jump in the other car and get to work and deal with the broke one later. I may have taken it a little far but one of the 6 cars we have is bound to start! LOL they are all old and paid for and I do all my own work. I decided a few years ago when my GF got her car repossessed no more car payments.
I agree Dave shouldn't be telling him to rely on someone to give him a ride. When the driver calls out you have two people call out. If you don't have reliable transportation like your feet That's a big red flag in the interview process.
@@profit822 Exactly! I live within a mile of a few shopping centers and warehouse companies if it hit the fan I can move into the apartment above my garage and rent my house and walk to walmart or whatever warehouse will hire me. A 1000$ car ...😂. Idk about you guys but where can you find those?
dude i’ve been searching for it as well i think the older generation think that they still exist
I'm right at the end of 4 years of driving a $450 Ford Ranger. It was wrecked so I straightened the front end, put a scrap yard radiator, a set of snowplow lights and a home fabricated bumper on it. I've got maybe $600 in it. 4 years and I'm upgrading with cash to a $4000 truck. I've got cash in the bank for a lot better one, but why? They're still out there, just gotta look a little harder.
We tried to find a $1000 car as a second car in 1990's. They did not exist even back then. Nowadays if you could find a $1000 car it would not have an engine or tires.
@@Fred2-123 They're alot rarer of course, but it's just ignorant and silly to say they don't exist.
@@dbond0018 Then I think that some Ramsey person should *show* us that they can find a decent $1000 car. Hundreds of comments on multiple videos have said that no, there are no $1000 cars. That they have looked and couldn't find one. Ramsey Co should show us instead of just saying it, contrary to many people voicing their own experience of not being able to find one.
Ramsey, out your money where your mouth is and SHOW us.
Where are all these $1,000 cars? Can I get a 10 pack of those please?

Public transit (not super viable depending on where you live/work), walk, ride a bike, ask for rides from family/friends when needed or even coworkers. There are a lot of ways to get around until you can afford to get a good reliable car. $1,000 car will get you maybe across the street before breaking down. Just do what is necessary to save for a good reliable car.
1:00 Dave .... "...taking your stuff out of your driveway...."
Um, Dave.... I know you don't like debt collectors or Buy Here Pay Here / Tote-the-Note dealers, but that's how this deal works. If you don't PAY, you don't get to keep it. It's not "your stuff" any more. The car dealer sent a repo man to take HIS stuff out of the caller's driveway.
Incidentally, if this caller doesn't make his house or rent payment for some reason, it also will no longer be "your driveway" either.
Sheesh... been a Dave fan since 2008... this is the first time I've sharply disagreed with him.
(law nerd here) in my state title pawn places are, literally, a pawn shop. This is because there are state usury laws that won't allow them to "loan" money at that rate. They are (legally) set up so that you are "pawning" the title to your car. The people who work there are trained to carefully avoid using words like "borrow" and "loan"
Dude join the military. Ain’t worth scraping buy in civilian sector these days. If you don’t have degree and are dead broke down and out and your family doesn’t have money. Then join the service take charge of your life never look back. It’s what I did and served for 10.5 years federal service. Yes did it take its toll on my body and kind? Of course. However I’m getting compensation now in my late 30s for my inability to maintain substantial gainful employment due to my service connected issues

There ain't no $1000 dollar cars dude...
They are rare but craiglist is a good place to look.

These people always thinks that you can get a job as soon as you fill out an application.
There's many other people that filled out that same application that he did.
And somehow get to the job without a car like any sort of reliable public transit exists outside a major city’s downtown core…
Obvious this guy is a deadbeat… McDonald’s hires at $16/hr starting. Everyone is hiring. This guy is prob a terrible employee. Terrible employees bounce from job to job until their resume screams “Not hire able”
I see signs all the time that say “on the spot interview” or “hire today, start tomorrow”. Take the first job you can. Hell, take 2 jobs. Re-establish your footing, then upgrade your job.

Well maybe your things golf, or buying paintings etc….some people love cars , I’m one of them… there’s a emotional attachment to them…and I’m not talking a Honda accord…,old muscle cars. 80’s sports cars and. Sports cars of today (vettes)…also love the gm trucks…people like different things .
@@toddprater14 I get that but every debt seems to be a car payment or a car lease. You never hear people going in debt over fine art or a golf membership. Just seems like financial discipline takes it back seat or goes completely out the window over a common and simple materialistic infatuation or faux status symbol. I absolutely hate golf, private jets and I do not own any fine art. I've traveled the world in first class and I've stayed at the finest hotels all without racking up a penny of debt. I guess people just make stupid choices.

He’s should have just got a 2k-5k car with something like a sub $175 car payment. Insurance would be super cheap as well as repair minding he stays away Euro cars. Not sure why everyone is trying to floss man.
With a lower payment or having the cheaper car paid off the quicker he could save money to better educate himself (get a trade) to get a better paying job or career as well as put a little bit aside per paycheck to act as a rainy day fund. Not everyone needs to go to college to make good money. Money is out there he just needs to find it.

The best is how people try and beat around the bush about their situation! Like this guy made it seem like he only owed 3K left on the car, you’re upside down on the car,you had a car you couldn’t afford, stop beating around the bush
Who was stealing . He failed to make payments. He's at fault. He was behind $3,000. They needed to take back their property. $500 car payments is why he is broke.
