Very informative video. Can you cut and fill twice on a property ? When you start figuring out what to do, do you get a survey, geotch report and have a civil engineer take a look ? Or mix and match to see what can be done ?
Great video's Buildsum, Thank you very much. Am I correct in thinking the fill doesn't need to be correctly compacted but just rolled over with machinery as the concrete beams are spanning between piers, ie so the soil under the slab doesn't need to be compacted?
Hi Rohan, the main issue is that the compacted soil will still move differently to the original foundation material. You would need to consult with your engineer as to how much compaction you would require.
Hi buildsum, I was wondering if you can do a topic about waffle/raft slab on Screw Piles plz? an introduction on how the screw piles are installed onsite and what works are involved based on your experience. thank you!!!
This was hugely informative, thank you! I have one question, if the whole area was filled (rather than cut then filled) and the concrete slab was not crossing between the cut area and the filled area, would this till apply? Or would it be only the footings without the pier system? Thanks in advance, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Hi Mike, if the entire site was on fill then you have a couple of options. You could pier the entire footing down to the natural foundation or use a Raft slab that would move with any settlement in the fill.
Hi Mate, the problem is not the amount of compaction rather the difference between the natural surface and the fill. Compacted fill will generally be more compacted than the natural ground and therefore still move differently. Piers are still required to the slab or beam is conected to the natural surface level. Hope this helps
Wonderful video mate. Very helpful. Just wondering, whats the normal distance between piers that you install on site? And also how often is it necessary to install internal piers for slab?
Hi Asim, thanks for your kind comments. Working out the spacing of the piers is the role of the Structural Engineer and will differ for every site depending on the soil type and conditions.
Hi, Do you do tutorials on how to use sketchup?Or can put me in the right direction to learn it. This will eliminate a lot of issues and time. Thankyou in advance.!
Hi Mate, no sorry however i find that Sketchup's own UA-cam Channel id pretty good. This is one of the playlists for that channel' ua-cam.com/video/pv7TrGnZ17w/v-deo.html

@@Buildsum Thank you! I'll check it out
Please help. What is the total cost roughly of a job like this? I have not yet decided to purchase a lot that needs this work .... Please advise
Hi Sophia. Sorry but there are to many variables depending on the site you are on and the soil types to answer that question.
is it possible to use rollers to compact the soil? then making the use of piers obsolete
