    My grandmother was born in 1908 and lived through the depression. Not too many preppers would be more prepared than she was. She easily had 2 years of food, clothes, shoes, a 55 gallon drum of powdered soap, coal, firewood, tanks of kerosene, lanterns, etc. Being prepared was just normal life for her

      Those who view preparedness as an "obsession" would be unlikely to fare very well in close proximity to prepared groups.

    One thing many people forget is preparing to run out of your supplies. Can you build a fire, can you trap food, can you garden? Can you tend to wounds? The Firefighter was the most coherent on these things, you have to prepare for the absolute worst.

    • @SheepdogSmokey
      @SheepdogSmokey 2 роки тому

      @Bob man I didn't say preppers don't, I said MANY PEOPLE, those who aren't preppers who say "we have a lot of cans of beans and other food" but they don't prep for when that runs out. They can't build shelter, fire, splint a broken bone, etc. They think they're ready for anything, when really they're just ready to slow down their own end.

    • @SheepdogSmokey
      @SheepdogSmokey 2 роки тому +1

      @Bob man Yes, many do, they are those who aren't doing more than just keeping a full pantry, but still say they're prepared. Yes, I have a good supply of food, including stuff that is considered "survival food" but unless you can bug out in a large vehicle, you'll not really be able to carry much, so you need the skills too, which is a lot of what non-preppers need to learn.

We have tools, hunting gear and seeds to carry us past the 3-month period in a worst case scenario. We do not advertise/discuss our preparations with neighbors. This type of preparation has been beneficial through several natural disasters. While others panicked - we set comfortably, although bored waiting the event out.

    Doomsday, schoomsday. It's good to be preppared and learn to fend for yourself and the people you love. Living in fear is no way to live though.

      preparing for contingencies does not equal fear. actually the reverse is true- being ready for anything and learning the skills it would take to survive is probably a power-full thing. i mean, you learn about the basics of your car so you can deal with contingencies, not because you are living in fear that your car will break down. and the reverse IS true: people that live in fear that their car will break down would almost always be people who know nothing about cars. and in any life skill, i think the more you learn, the more empowered and LESS fearful you become. considering the (imho ) lame hobbies many people have, i think this one is pretty badazz.

    The most important thing one can do is learn. Knowledge will be the most powerful thing you can possess during a disaster. Have items to survive short term, but the knowledge to last long term.
    Learn to purify water,
    Learn to build - some form of tool skills
    Learn first aid
    Learn to fish, hunt, grow crops
    Learn learn learn..... Don't depend on others for your survival.
    Live for today, but prepare for tomorrow.

    At its core many people misunderstand, preparedness is not "living in fear" instead the woman who finds it rational to prepare but doesn't because if something happens she has no hope is much more controlled by fear. It is literally fatalism. If your preparing, you think your preparations will help, if you think you can win through the end of the world its inherently a optimistic view of the world. This guy is going to live and the people he loves will live because they know how to hang a tarp, that friends is hope.

    When I was young, my family lived in a small village that had frequent power outages due to hurricanes or blizzards, so we always had a stockpile of food and emetgency supplies on hand...and a natural gas stove so that we could cook...and heat the kitchen in winter.
    Although the energy grid is more reliable today, I still have a several-month supply of food and emergency supplies, rain barrels to catch water...and a trusty gas stove. If a big storm hits, I can get by...but if a war or climate collapse happens, I'd just as soon die quickly.

    There sure a lot of trolls here. Amazing how many people have a negative view of preppers. So many people don't want to believe that a SHTF event cant happen to them. That somehow they would be untouched by a world changing event and they have no need to have even the basic items to make it through even the first 72 hours.
    Well for those who have been preparing and training - they will be OK in the coming times ahead. We are heading into hard times now and for the next 150 years. As the Grand Solar Minimum takes hold within the next year food will be the biggest challenge for millions of people. As crops fail around the globe and people begin to wake up to the facts that something is wrong it will be too late to prepare. You can research this yourself to learn more about it but in the end the facts are that it's coming and there is no way to stop it. All we can do is prepare for it and do the best we can to survive during these coming times. Over all man will survive. After all we survived the last ice age. But billions will not survive the next 50 years and millions will die in the next 10.
    Government cant help everyone and maybe even no one. You'll be on your own. The ones who have prepared wont be too egger to help those who didn't. The world collapse is coming - wars will brake out over resources and a lot of people wont make it.

    I stayed that situation for almost 13 years , I haven’t seen electricity since my last year of secondary school . I adapted that live till I thought its the normal live for rest of the world .
    When i saw these people who are preparing them selves for what they called doomsday, I remembered who it looked like mine .

      @Charles Mcgonigle that phrase came about in war. And in some ways you're correct, you don't want to tell people you know won't do anything to support themselves when the built supports are gone. But finding a group of like-minded individuals could be one of the best preps you make. Very few survive alone for long, humans aren't built for it and we don't like it. We need cooperation.
