Prayer Plants! Ctenanthe Exotica, one of the MANY varieties of what are commonly called Prayer Plants. In this video I demonstrate how to inspect the plant's roots, how to carefully remove excess soil, how to select an appropriate sized pot for the plant, and the best location in the home based on the plant's light requirements.
I also tell my story of a beloved Calathea Rufibarba as an example of what NOT to do with a prayer plant. These plants raise their leaves in the evening, similar to the upright gesture of hands together in a motion of prayer, which is why they're called prayer plants. The leaves release outward during the daytime at the inception of medium-low reflections of sunlight.

Does that pot have drainage holes? How do you let plants drain that don’t? Do you let it completely dry out before watering?

Hi there! Thanks for watching. Yes, that pot has a removable base that covers the drainage holes. Ctenanthe plants do not like for soil to dry completely. It likes moist, but not soaked soil. 💚
