My uncle was the Superintendent of the propeller hub division in Caldwell, New Jersey. He loved his job there.

Glenn Curtiss saved us from the Wright Brothers attempt to monopolize aviation. Change my mind.

Absolutely right. After developing a marketable product the Writes shifted their focus toward suing anyone who made an airplane.

Dating from the 1950s, this film narrated by Lowell Thomas, shows the many innovations produced by the Curtiss Wright Corporation in aviation history.

The XP-55 Ascender AKA Assender did not pan out not did the transport plane that would cut transportation cost to below truck cost. the R-3350 was long oin development and prone to drop exhaust valves and catch fire in early B-29 bombers. Ultimately, it was replaced in the B-50 by the Pratt and Whitney R-4360.
By the time this film was made CW was in sharp decline. Particularly the aircraft division.

The Navy called the SB2C Helldiver "The Beast" and many thought SB2C stood for son of a bitch second class. 6:00

My father worked at the Curtis Wright aircraft factory. For many years, I had a level that he used for leveling machines and barrels but I don’t know what happened to it. It was concave on the bottom.

I live 1/4 mile from where the first plane flew it’s the town of kill Devil Hills North Carolina...and there’s a airport instead of grass field where planes take off and land all day long...

Curtiss - Wright basically went to hell after WW II. I have a book on the subject "Whatever Happened to Curtiss - Wright".

I believe their trip to hades began during the war. They were unable to come up with a successful replacement for the P-40. The R-3350 development was problematic. The P-47 fighters they built under license were not fit to enter combat. And some of their designs were flat out horrible. The C-76 for example...

What about Santos Dumond, he shows in a movie flying in 2006 why the Wright brother couldn't.

This is a nice old video. CW does not make airplanes. This is a kind of ironic because the company has the names of two pioneers of aviation. My guess is that the company was not able to jump on time in to the jet's era after ww2, but it is alive doing some other stuff.

Always the old hoax. Put a late WB flight connected with the no recorded Kithawk flight. Tell a lie thousand until becomes a thru.

I usually don't feed the Trolls, simply because "Haters will be haters" but if you feel so strongly about this, why don't you put your references together... right here... or on some web site so it can all be peer reviewed ?
      No! STFU.

@@DawgPro Hater I? Why so a simple and short vision? I was not rude, I do not fail to respect anyone. I just put out a common occurrence. A lot of documentaries, like this old one and even now on days in Nat Geo, Discovery and History Channel, whenever a reference is made to the first WB flight date, which by the way, has no film or photo record, a late recorded flight footage is used. This is not corrected. This is not honest. In a documentary, this is not acceptable. That can induce unaware people do believe that is the real first flight footage I do not need to produce anything, just check the videos in the internet. Peace man.

Well, Glenn Curtiss Was Great & A True American, Aviation Pioneer. The Wright Brothers Never Really Progressed Passed Their Original Design. About The Only Difference Being More Powerful Engines & Sitting Up On The Wing Instead Of Laying Down On It. The Video Usually Seen Of Them Was Taken At Huffman Prairie (Really Just A Large Pasture) & At Their 1909 Demonstration To The U.S. Army. They Even Declined To Participate In The Famous Air Races At Rheims, France (1909) Because They Were Too Full Of Themselves. Guess Who Won?
