This lesson is an introduction to the major pentatonic scale and its basic soloing application. It includes a practice solo in A major with 9 licks that are all broken down. For beginner to intermediate level practice in rock soloing.

I've learned more from this video than a host of others on UA-cam. Thank you
Wanting to move forward from minor pentatonic soloing, and your video is just perfect, thanks a bunch
Really good Ryan very good tutorial
Just finding this and it’s awesome! I was converting my E-B-A-E to relative minors (6th) of each (C#m - G#m - F#m - C#m) then using that to play minor pentatonic. Turns out it’s just called the major scale….. now I see why I keep resolving on a different note than the minor. I’ve been resolving on the tonic. This lesson is phenomenal bringing all the licks into it and explaining the why behind it all
This is exactly what I need. Thank you.
thanks for bringing me back to my roots ..!
I went all mixolydian for a long time
Nice guitar man! Thanks for this lesson! Works!
Killer guitar tone!
Great lesson and a great teaching style. Many thanks. :)

i like those sounds, it sound so sweet. i found my new teacher haha thanks for vids.
Excellent lesson
you need diagrams my boy
cool lesson
Thanks for the video ! Where would you suggest to find more Major licks ?
RYAN KIHN
>>>>>>>>>>> )) which guitar rock solos used the Major Pentatonic licks scale can you make a lesson showing a bunch of examples?
Are these positions numbered differently in the UK.? I've seen where the pattern you call shape two is called shape 5 in some literature from the UK.
Position 1 shape in the minor is position 5 shape in the major. Position 2 shape of the minor is position 1 shape in the major. Etc etc
Can you put them into pdf format? ASIICS and .gp5 do not work for me...
Do the bends on lick 1 need to be muted before coming down. Really struggling to not have a pause in playing.
Just have a question if someone can help me. I'm early intermediate so this may sound stupid to some Pros. Normally when I play G major I play starting at 5th fret and I play the scale that would be the third position in a minor. Problem is on this video where he starts in position one on the 2nd fret doesn't tie in. If someone could explain that to me I would appreciate it.
Great!

How does playing a major scale sound over a minor rhythm? Because playing minor over major sounds good, is the reverse true?
Deeken Wheeler ... that's an interesting question ,did you get an answer
It sounds horrible! Find a minor blues backing track on UA-cam and have a go....
Having the humbucker covered like on Gibson guitars really fattens up the sound.
Hey man, love this vid. Would love a lesson on your intro music - such a sweet sound!
That lick up there in 10th position uses the 4th, I wish you had commented on that.
Hey Ryan, great stuff and great to see/hear you again! I'm still watching your old Ratt stuff - so cool. Keep it up bro, you are an EXCELLENT teacher and player. Rock on.
michaelgirard3626 Thanks for the comment, I'm still working on upping the production values in my videos, I'm glad you like the content.
Great lessons Ryan, love your playin style, really enjoying you lessons and instruction breakdowns, keep em coming mate! How about a couple more Marty Friedman lessons? from the early Megadeth catalogue? ☺
That was a great lesson I learned quite a lot from that. In some of those runs and licks I could easily hear a lot of Joe Walsh. Cheers
Rayan..we Enedina the Tabs…..gracias…
Euán please…pu it the Tabs…
Help
Nice input..
Maybe a little too late, but great lesson, Ryan, thanks so much! As you said, I´m used to play on minor scales mostly, but I need to learn a bit about major riffs and soloing on major for playing at the church, and this is just perfect. Greetings from Venezuela. Struggling times here, but praising the Lord helps to keep peace of mind, heart and soul. Thanks again!
Good stuff. But why do so many guitar UA-camrs seem incapable of saying “pentatonic” without then playing a bunch of pentatonic licks that not only don’t apply to the lesson, but are played too fast for folks to learn anything?
Thanks much....good stuff. I'm a drummer and I can play this. I'm starting to sound like a guitarist...OMG......thanks again.....:)
Informative, good simple explanation and you kept my attention. Thank you! Keep them coming....
Good stuff Ryan! Can't find any backing track though? Only a short piece of staff notation on your website.
My gosh thank you so much for this lesson. I have trouble finding good intermediate stuff to learn and this was super fun to play. Feel like I learned quite a bit too. Will definitely check out more of your vids.
This has some really good info that most (almost all) pentatonic lessons omit. Awesome lesson.
Terrific explanation and inspiration. Thx
Excellent lesson. Many thanks!
Any relation to Greg Kihn?
This video is in my Top 3- Don't suck at guitar anymore videos! Just what I needed!
bro post the link two the other two vids
So if a song goes in A major, it is basically the same thing if I play the minor pentatonic in F sharp. The notes are the same. Am I right? So basically what's the difference between minor and major pentatonic scales?
if the song is in A major you will accent and resolve to the root A notes in the scale
It’s all relative. You can bet F# minor is in the A major key and vice verse. Depends key of the song based on what you would call it
Great work.
"Alright Now."
Doug Tull Yep add that to the classic maj pent solo list
+R yan Kihn
Great job

Very nice lesson, looking forward to more
don’t understand any of that major 2 flat perfect fifth stuff
