I love watching Giger's channel. He tries difficult and unique tricks and shows the amount of work that he does to land a trick, without being too loud and obnoxious like other "youtube skaters". I hope he does on the current BATB.
if you redo this in the future, please add a defensive stat and a consistency of difficult tricks stat. defensive stat: % tricks landed on defense consistency of difficult tricks: % tricks that are under 75% consistency landed (or other arbitrary difficulty, 50% 33%?)
I filmed PJ way back in the day in Philly whenever he came to town, before anyone knew who he was. Even when he missed the trick he was trying to film, he still rolled away on the bolts. He had everyone that was a local at Love heated. Unless you've seen him skate in person, you'll never fully understand just how good he is.
How is Chris Cole having such a deep bag a surprise? He's a literal legend and icon, he stands among the greatest of skaters ever, even still at 40, crushing shit
The more games a player participate in, the more his numbers will go down. Also, I think titles won and how a participant places should be factored in. Sewa always seems to be in finals night, and PJ, of course, has the most tournament wins. Great vid as usual tho, enjoy watching you channel grow in popularity.
he inspired me to learn nollie heelflip/kickflip shiftys! i got incredibly consistent with nollie front heel shifty and it was such a fun trick to blast over euro gaps and other stuff.
The thoroughness of these videos have reached god mode. The numbers don’t lie, I would have guessed PJ Ladd would have come out on top. If you add the element of style, where how the tricks are done somehow could be calculated, I think we could all agree that Luan would take top spot.
Diego Najera wins my own prize for best flat ground style. It literally looks effortless for him, and as though the board is stuck to his feet, even when it flips! Man, a lot of work must of went into this, really well done!
I used to love gifted hater bro but no ones better than dumb data in the skate community, after seeing him cry over u making the most light hearted joke ever I can't watch him no more, to hell with wut he thinks u made a sustainable UA-cam channel on a topic I didn't even know I needed and I love it keep up the good work bro love the channel
Very nice analysis, it also made me think of extra things you could have included: successful defensive lands on the letter T (clutch), head-to-head stats between all top 10 skaters and the number of tournament wins.
WOOOW extremely surprised mike mo didnt make top 10. I did some stats based on wins vs loss but also included how many batb the skater participated in and based on that pj ladd and mike mo were top 2. Amazing data you have! Just subscribed
All the top 10 skaters are awesome, but in my opinion at Batb Luan is the one I enjoy more; his style, speed, pop, cleanliness are the best. This might not emerge by your great work on the data, but in skateboarding there is a lot is not easy to capture in numbers ... the Art
Amazing! Did you consider using ELO ratings? I would be very curious to see the results if you took that route. ELO is used for chess rankings and 538 uses it for the historic NBA teams so I think it's a good system to consider.
holyshit, 22 minute video. Good work man!! I would be so psyched to see my own name in these videos if i was a pro skater. And pretty anxious at the same time lol.
So, the thing with Gigger and Griffin is that they post videos of their tricks (not taking anything away from their ability) but they don’t have the consistency of the top 10 skaters in the list, they are not going to land 5 deathblows in a match to beat Luan or Joslin, this two just need to do their bag of tricks until either Gigger or Griffin fail. This is my take, I could be wrong though. Great content 👍🏽
I think the greatest part about this is how much talk is about Giger and Griffin. I also bet both have been practicing a lot to get all those tricks down. I'm looking forward to their battle.
Gigers pretty consistent, I think he just shit the bed a little first time. I dont like the guy, but I've seen enough games of him stomping other youtube kids to know he can do all the tricks within a try or two, its just a different story when you're suddenly in the berrics playing in front of a bunch of pros.
I agree that Shane is way way overdue. Considering how insanely good he played against PJ in batb3 (and still got skunked somehow), i just dont understand how he hasnt taken a gold home yet. Also, where the ef is Pj???
Crunched some numbers on Mike Mo pre-injury and he had a consistency rate of 81.83% which actually put him above P-Rod, Shane O'Neill, and Sewa. This was up until BATB 7 when he still had two working feet 😭
Surely there's still some flaws in how this list is determined no? Am I crazy? Like I don't think anyone in their right mind would be able to argue that Chris Colbourn, having played in 5 BATB games total, never getting past round 2, belonged in the 11th spot and Sewa Kroetkov only cracks the 14 spot despite having won the entire tournament once and been to the finals in every instance of the competition he's competed in... (right?) Or that Dashawn Jordan and Alex Mizurov, having played 5 games combined between the two of them, belong in the top 20 above Mike Mo, who has also won the whole thing once and gotten to the third round at least two other times. I'll admit to not being a data guy so I'm not sure what the solution is here but it feels like the minimum sample size should've been higher or something? Or deeper bracket wins should be weighted more heavily? It's just wild to me that Will Fyock made the top 10 and Sewa didn't lol
Yep, number of games played should definitely be given more importance. For example, Koston and Moose have landed 92 different tricks each but Koston has done that over a far larger number of games. In addition, the caliber of an opponent should also be taken into account. Losing to the eventual winner is better than losing to someone who goes out the next round.
Crazy that Cookie, Ishod Wair are in the top 15 yet have win/loss ratios under 50%. Malto is high up there too yet has a W/L ratio in the 30s. These dudes are either really unlucky in getting consistently matched against the best skaters, or lacking in the clutch department. DD, if you're looking for a video topic, please dig in!
You should contact the skaters and sell them scouting reports. Someone like Luan Oliveira having his worst numbers are be variations of heels lips is useful
It's crazy were skateboarding went to since I stopped back in the 90s I feel like I'm watching a football analyst lol I feel this is absolutely great for skateboarding giving it that mainstream feel getting people who don't skate watching skateboarding would sky rocket the sport i'm Canadian and most of us love hockey and have a favorite team but don't play the sport I would say 80 percent of Canadians who watch hockey don't play in fact most probably never even played a game I think if something of that nature happened to skateboarding the sport could become a mainstream sport skateboarding analyst give it that feel I think it could really catch on skateboarding is so huge wouldn't take much more to push into the the real mainstream
contest breakdowns are way better than the video part breakdowns imo. video parts are art so the breakdowns just dont make sense to me. maybe real street could be a cool middle ground though hmm

This content is almost too good to be true. I really appreciate all the work you put into these things! Skateboarding entertainment at its finest!
Thank you 🙏!!

This guy's work is ridiculously good... Keep dumbing it down for us
Much appreciated!!

@@villiantwoor autistic, still up for debate but we love him!
You did not just hate on my switch frontside flip, that one was proper! lmaooooo 😂😂... good work btw

I was impressed with the switch FS flip tbh
Bro you're insane!
Your battle against chris chann was one of the best games of skate ever
@@dumbdata34 @10:21 where was the flick?
Proper fs flip muska style 🔥🔥
I clearly saw the flip. He was a clown for putting that
I can't imagine the ammount of work you put into these. Amazing work and video, as always.
Thanks!!!
I still think Jerry Hsu is the goat because he never missed a trick and then had the balls to just disappear with no explanation
I filmed PJ way back in the day in Philly whenever he came to town, before anyone knew who he was. Even when he missed the trick he was trying to film, he still rolled away on the bolts. cool. are you still skate and film?
How is Chris Cole having such a deep bag a surprise? He's a literal legend and icon, he stands among the greatest of skaters ever, even still at 40, crushing shit
Chris Cole in bloom!
The more games a player participate in, the more his numbers will go down. Also, I think titles won and how a participant places should be factored in. Sewa always seems to be in finals night, and PJ, of course, has the most tournament wins.

Much appreciated and good callouts!!
Totally agree How many finals night have we seen pj in before joslin even showed up
PJ Ladd is like Skate Santa, if we are good he brings us some clips.
His WHL part literally shaped my early skating years. Nollie heel shifty anyone?
He nollie back heeled the MIT 8set in Alexi's part too 😳 if anyone's ever stood at the top, it's like a 13set
he inspired me to learn nollie heelflip/kickflip shiftys! i got incredibly consistent with nollie front heel shifty and it was such a fun trick to blast over euro gaps and other stuff.
I don't know why you do what you do, but don't stop doing it

your videos have brought in me a new found love for statistics
This is the greatest skateboarding related UA-cam channel

This is amazing and I'm blown away by the data collection but for me it's 1. PJ 2. Luan 3. Joslin
thats crazy how pjladd just comes to my park to skate flat, awesome man helped me with fakie fs 180 heel

Good video idea: Top 10 worst calls from a referee in BATB history
As Jonny would say “Real Dumb Data” 😜
Cody cepedas bath 7 run was fun as hell to watch unfold
Cody, Shane, Joslin, Daddy Shrimp, Giger, Sewa. A bunch of top dogs are still on the game, I'm hyped!
best believe this is how skating will start to get analyzed in like ten years on ESPN.
respect for the time put into this video
Great video! Luan is just amazing!
Bruh I skate wit Cody and Eric at modern all the time. 😭 I’m just now figuring out how big they really are.
this datas are getting on a another level!

I love the # of unique tricks landed as a metric 👍👍
Crunched some numbers on Mike Mo pre-injury and he had a consistency rate of 81.83% which actually put him above P-Rod, Shane O'Neill, and Sewa. This was up until BATB 7 when he still had two working feet 😭
Luan just dose tricks better then everyone really stomping most
I'm dumbfounded that Aurelian Girad wasn't mentioned once
Ayeee Im hyped I have that fakie impossible down well 🥂

Well yeah there’s definitely gonna be flaws because when it comes down to it, it’s an opinion. I think he did a pretty good job overall though.

PJ Ladd vs Moose BATB6 is the best game i've ever seen.
i wonder if some of the more serious batb12 competitors are gonna use this video to determine their choice of tricks
we need you to do the seeding for the next BATB to ensure a good finals match up in the late stage of the tournament
Sewa has to be on the Top 10 List !!
I feel like your my cool math teacher
Amazing work!! Really appreciate these!! How long does it take to watch every battle and log every detail????
Would be cool to see W/L applied to elo or glicko ratings
@Dumb Data How much time did it take you to collect all the data from all the BATB editions ? That's an insame amount of work !!!

Jonny and Jamie should both be first on the list, they made it to round 2 without even lifting a finger
Such a bummer that Joslin lost a couple weeks back. That was shocking to see him go out in the 2nd round

If a smart cookie got his hands on this data and took all of this seriously, I'm sure a shane o'neal type talent can cause some real damage.
