  • In this video Paul takes apart a hand mixer, that labour saving kitchen appliance usually used to make cakes, meringue and whipped cream!
    Although after Paul has finished pulling it to pieces to show how it works, and explaning each component in the process, I fear that its kitchen days are over!

    Thanks for the video! Is there anywhere to buy replacement hardware for small appliances? The shafts where the beaters go broke when I was using it too hard.

      Thanks for your comment. With regards to buying replacement parts for small appliances, I think it would be nearly impossible to find parts anywhere as these appliances seem designed to be thrown away (and replaced with a newer version!) when something breaks. Frustrating, I know.
      If you are determined to fix something that can't be replaced easily, you can try to find a cheap used model (with the same specifications) and use it for spare parts!

    Hello can u pls tell if we can change the arrangement of the gears inside such that they are perpendicular to the motor

    • @englishpool
      @englishpool  9 місяців тому

      Not sure what you are trying to do but a worm gear is attached to the motor shaft which then transfers the rotation 90 degrees to the two plastic gears that spin the beaters. Of course, with a little extra work you could remove the motor and use it for other projects!

    Insightful video! Do you know how does the transmission in this work?

    • @englishpool
      @englishpool  Рік тому

      Thank you. With regards to the transmission, there is a metal worm gear attached to shaft of the motor, this worm gear drives two plastic spur gears either side to spin the beaters.

    thanks for the fine video. I have learn a lot. What i have to repair, if the mashine dosn`t work, because of overheating. The copper of the motor and the transformer with his connections looks well. Is there a electrical protection inside,witch can be distroit?

      Flori, thank you for watching and for your comment. I would think all hand mixers have some kind of electrical protection, with cheaper mixers (like the one in the video) having a simple glass fuse, which once blown could, in theory, be replaced. Please be aware that the mixer works on mains electricity and the fuse is a safety system, so you would need an exact match for the blown fuse and be fully confident in your ability to replace it (in my experience they are usually soldered directly to the wiring.) Also the risk of overheating will not be solved by replacing the fuse, so it may blow again. My best advice to you would be to buy a new mixer.

    How many volt transformers are used?

    • @englishpool
      @englishpool  Рік тому

      I think the electric motor used is a 'universal motor' type so it is connected directly to the mains supply (via a speed selector), without any step-down voltage or AC to DC conversion. Here in Japan the mains voltage is 110V AC.

    Is there any fusible mob/ resistors ??

    • @englishpool
      @englishpool  2 роки тому +1

      Good question, as a thermal fuse would stop the mixer if it overheated to the point of becoming dangerous. I think the small yellow box you can see in the video was some kind of thermal fuse or switch. Unfortunately I threw the mixer out a few months ago, so can't check.

    How to replace wornout gears of mixer ?

    • @englishpool
      @englishpool  2 роки тому

      You must have given it some heavy use to wear the gears out! Generally I'd say the gears are not replaceable...probably easier to buy a new mixer.

    How to put back carbon .

      It is possible to put back the carbon brushes but as they are spring loaded it's very fiddly, and needs a lot of patience.
