- Polishing a UNIQUE agate from Agate Creek, Australia! This beautiful gemstone is amazing and has a really interesting story.. we got a bunch of agates given to us and we cut them open.. this one is a special gemstone because after we cut it, one half was a blueish gray and the other have a yellowish tan. I couldn't believe this had two different colors on each half and in this video we test out a theory as to WHY this stone has two separate colors!

Groovy stone🙂 I'm hoping the rock tumbler I ordered will be here this weekend. Haven't had one since I was a teen (I'm a bit older now, lol). I recently found my box of rocks and have been waiting years to tumble them!
I have a few pieces I want to get on the saw and get them cut.
Hey Agate Dad! I am also an agate dad, living in the Twin Cities metro area. My daughter and I are going to hound a few creeks and one construction site this weekend. We do pretty dang good down here in southern Minnesota thanks to the glacial action that brought all of these beautiful agates to our part of the state. Really enjoy the vids!

I have found some agates that break off rite at the waterline layer and often they are so smooth from river polishing it's kinda cool.

Another great video, thank you! It is so amazing that you actually managed to cut that agate in half perfectly between the two colors on the inside. It looks like to me, that the nodule has some common opal in the center, causing the light colored center, and the rest of the agate is an almost grey chalcedony. The grey chalcedony is a translucent grey, which would be common for chalcedony, and it looks dark because it has many layers of grey. Thats why it had a darker spot on the light side. So it would be a clearer grey if it was slabbed thinner and it would have had a little ways before you hit tbe common opal center of the lighter side. It still has a bit of the chalcedony over it, or it wouldnt have taken as good of a polish. Just my theory but thats what i think happened here. Great polish by the way. It looks fantastic and what a great conversation piece! Thanks for sharing!
It is a happy chance that you chose to cut it just that way. I think it looks a bit like a thumb nail or maybe a thumb print but I like the cave opening thought also. Thanks for the nice videos.

That turned out awesome! It really is a great looking stone! I am going to make some crystal shapes cutting some stones on my tile saw then shaping on my flat lap! Want to get around 5 or 6 done this weekend! I make jewelry out of my polished stones, charms, rings and bracelets! Thanks for sharing!
I love that you question and do research to prove or disprove that theory. I am hoping to go to Lake Michigan. We've had some storm and waves. Can't wait to see what I find.

It does look like it's water level but the lines are on the tan yellow side & that blue gray was the big bubble of color above the lines.

Nice job on your stone polishing. Also I was wondering what you thought about those 2 half of stones maybe turn them into ear rings 💍 anyway I'm not sure how good they would turn out but its possible you could make them look really cool.
How do you keep those clear plastic trays from falling off when you grind? Mine just vibrate off and I ended up putting them away. Great job as usual and beautiful gems my friend.
They have non slip pads on the bottom

the reason why it's two different color, it's cat's eye, or more commonly called tiger eye. that means the rock is embedded with millions of tiny fibers all arranged in a row, this one has the blue on one side of the row and on the other side of the row is the other color. when you split them in half, each fiber has blue on one side, and that tan on the other.

It looks like it has opal in it and that is why it has the different colors. Just a guess. Anyways I'm am planning of finding someone to help me cut some of my larger rocks to see if we can get better details to shine through and then going to start making my table base

OR.......It WAS a waterline and you cut it on the very first line and that smaller side was just the obligatory blank chalcedony pocket which is sometimes found opposite the layers. Hmmmmm🤔
