I would, as former river guide, highly recommend this video for a good starting point. One point to add about anybody hanging onto a boat for any time, is to make sure they are on the up river side of the boat. This prevents them being smashed between the boat and any obstacles. Should also emphasize not pulling people into the boat by their arms to prevent injury. Its a good idea to do a commercial trip or trips first and pump the guides for advice. Be careful and have fun!
