I honestly had it in my mind that Spyderco was an awful knife with the gimmicky thumb hole in the blade. Then I bought a Para3, and it is now my favorite EDC knife ever. Spyderco makes fantastic knives!
I've never been a fan of spydercos but there's always been something about the paramilitary 2 that drew me in, as soon as I saw an exclusive in my favourite colour I bit the bullet and went for it and I love the thing, so much so I'm considering buying the little brother just because. I wouldn't even look twice at any other models though personally, there are better/nicer knives out there for the money, but with the ugly hole and the compression lock, it's so satisfying to just fiddle with when my hands need something to do. I could flick my paramilitary 2 open and closed all day and never get tired of it lol
People also had a problem with the lanyard hole because it forced the pocket clip farther down the knife making more of the handle stick out of your pocket.
I really love my para 3. I have never had a para 2. The lack of deep carry really doesn't make a real issue for me. I dig that it makes it super easy to grab out my pocket especially since my hands are generally dirty.
I've waiting for your thoughts about the para 3. Thanks for sharing your insight. BTW, the lighting is great in this video. You're getting really good at this!
My PM2 has a huge lanyard hole too. I’m hoping that that means I’ll be able to do a slip knot through the hole so I can remove the lanyard cord without having to undo my knot. I can’t remember the name of the knot I used on my ZT, but to remove it would mean untying a time-consuming knot, or cutting it so when I take it apart for cleaning and lubing the lanyard keeps the handles together, you can still do what you need to do but it would be nice if you could just hold one at a time and not have the other handle dangling down.
Great review as always. Para 3 wont be replacing my PM2 anytime soon. I feel the PM2 is so good that at this point its the only knife i carry. The first time i saw a spyder hole i thought it was extremely ugly, now i dont think i could ever live without it.
Great video! Best para3 review I’ve seen so far I appreciate the honest opinion from somebody who actually uses their knives. However, I was disappointed with the blade size of my para 2 it just feels awkward, like the blade is way smaller than the scales. So I was thinking the para 3 would be a better fit for the blade to scale ratio. I was also thinking maybe try the para 3 lightweight first for $100 before dumping another $150 on a new knife.
Started with the military then pm2 then the para 3 and have to say I absolutely love military and will always have one but I like the para 3 which is crazy because I have XL glove
Solid review man, is the feel gripping the P3 closer to the P2 or a small 21 ? I was waiting for you to put the P3 and small 21 side by side but it didn't happen. Looking forward to the disassembly vid, later.
After all of the bitchin and moanin people did about the Para 1 having a lanyard hole that was too small, now all of the sudden the lanyard hole is too big on the Para 3. Good upload!
Although I really love the ergo's of my PM2's, the Para 3 surprised me. It's feels completely different but also with medium to large sized hands the ergo's are good, especially in the chocked-up position. Maybe it feels a bit more chubby because of it's smaller size, but for EDC use it seems perfect to me, although I like my PM2's more. I'm definitely will buy a Para 3 sprint (probably the Cru-Wear). Nice review, thanks.
Another great video, I couldn't have explained it better myself. Need more videos, I'm Jonesing for more, I know you have done shirogorov videos in the past ,and I know your feelings on tiny ball bearing knives, but I think you would love the Hati since it's on bronze washers and has the pivot bushing like on the sebenza . Maybe a new video on that shiro and a take down. Take care, Tampajimbo
I have i really fell in love with pm2 but i just got the ti military and i am completely in love with this knife also.Have the manix and love it i to say pm2 and ghe military are definitely wow for me.
i for one am glade they kept the blade thickness on the para 3 almost the same! if i remember in the specks it read its even a little thicker then PM2 stock!looking foreword to sprint with M4 though my all time favorite steel.
I'd prefer the pm3 stop pin. I have had 2 pm2s and both required the stop pin screws to be loctited loose because if they were tight in any way it would crank the tighten up the pivot with tension and make it stiff. Guess I got 2 lemons, they both were that way.
The lanyard hole is where the clip should be . They could've used the clip with the hole in the center if they really had to put a lanyard hole in it .
I could care less that the clip is not a deep carry ,wished the lanyard hole was not even there .I wear blue jeans & T-shirts 99 percent of the time ,I could care less about tip up or tip down ? This knife fits my small hands perfectly ,I chose the black blade with Camo scales . I’m very happy with it Howie 🔪
I am 14 and I am an avid knife collector. ( I have about 15, 200$ plus knifes) but I haven’t had a pm2 or P3 yet. But yesterday I went to Spyderco and picked up a P3 simply because I’m 14 and I don’t need a huge knife.
I like the pm2 but I would like to see the blade a little bit longer to match the handle. That offset kinda bugs me. Once I bought my orange s90v manix my love kinda left the pm2 to this one.
I like the look of the Paramilitary 2, but the Para 3 looks terrible. I think it's because they squashed it lengthwise without changing the blade and handle height. It looks like a picture that was resized in one axis but not the other.
I hope anybody who’s looking at self defense with a knife has had a lot of training. It’s not like a pistol , knife fighting is a tough thing to master
Awesome video bro. Subbed. I'm trying to figure out if the Para 3 or PM2 should be my next Spydie. I currently EDC a Dragonfly 2 in back pocket with a Delica 4 in front and I recently picked up a Tenacious get a feel for a larger blade. I think the Tenacious might be a little much for my pocket so was looking at the Para 3 since it seems like a slightly larger Delica which I think would be perfect. But the PM2 keeps coming up over and over and it's intriguing me. Just not sure which way to go lol.
I own both, and love both. Although I personally prefer the PM2, you might be happier with the Para3. It is very close in overall size to the delica. Both are very excellent and capable knives.
B. Howard Probably. Just out of curiosity, is it safe to remove the clip and carry the Para 3 (or PM2) free in the pocket with keys? I'm not familiar with compression locks, but that's how I carry my current lock back knives. I find clipping a knife to a pocket uncomfortable and I don't like the clip showing. For the record I mostly wear jeans, not skinny pants lol.
@@prometheusred6919 Hahaha. Skinny pants never made sense to me! I would say carrying a PM2 or Para3 without a clip would be safe. However you might want to keep in mind that there is no backspacer, so the edge of the blade is accessible to things that are small enough. Could possibly ding the blade edge.
Good review but the knife is not a Para Military 3. It is a Para 3. Sorry if I am nit picking. I like the Para Military 2 followed by the Para Military and then the Para 3. It is called a Para 3 because of the 3 inch blade length.
If you don't want to watch a video, here is a quote from a knife dealer: "Although clearly based on the Paramilitary 2, the Para 3 was not named the "Paramilitary 3" because its smaller size qualifies it as a different knife design. Similarly, the "3" in its name actually reflects its three-inch blade length rather than identifying it as a third-generation of the Paramilitary design. While its pedigree is unmistakable, the Para 3 (and its model and SKU number) has its own distinct "identity" as a Spyderco product."
I could use a couple more examples of small and large plz :) Jk love your vids think you just put 3 out and only 1 is over 10 minutes that's a problem need more longer vids from u man
Remove the pivot screw and the handle screw on the opposite end. Pull the handles apart until the stop pin clears the handle. Swing the top scale clockwise using the lanyard hole as the pivot point. I did this to mine this morning and polished the washers and it is perfect.
Terrible design for pocket clip so because of this and the high price I am waiting for the para 3b or para 4 whatever it will be called. The hole/clip design flaw can’t be overlooked at this price point. For basically 150+ I expect better design and this was just lazy design.
I honestly had it in my mind that Spyderco was an awful knife with the gimmicky thumb hole in the blade. Then I bought a Para3, and it is now my favorite EDC knife ever. Spyderco makes fantastic knives!
Same. And now I have one showing up tomorrow! Looking forward to it.
Same here. I have/love the Para 2. I'm just waiting to get the Para 3 for a lefty. Like my Para 2 is.
I've never been a fan of spydercos but there's always been something about the paramilitary 2 that drew me in, as soon as I saw an exclusive in my favourite colour I bit the bullet and went for it and I love the thing, so much so I'm considering buying the little brother just because. Spyderco needs to put one of their deep carry wire clip on the Para 3 like they have on the Sage series.
Perfect timing when you said, “love the look of our minivan.” And you hear the kids in the background!
Just wanted to drop a comment for some interaction. Thanks for taking the time to compare and show off the para 3 and pm2
I've waiting for your thoughts about the para 3. Thanks for sharing your insight. BTW, the lighting is great in this video. You're getting really good at this!
I love my minivan too. Men who like minivans are a certain breed.
Nice! I love my Para 3, i don't mind the lanyard hole either. I actually think it goes well with the spydie hole, it flows to me.
My PM2 has a huge lanyard hole too. I’m hoping that that means I’ll be able to do a slip knot through the hole so I can remove the lanyard cord without having to undo my knot. The para 3 is dooooope
Great comparison between large and small models of knives. Keep up the great work!

I don’t like all the holes in my handle scales either. I change the scales to have one pair of holes. I think it improves the look of the knife
I love your philosophy on knives. Very unique and awesome.
Love my Para2. Bought it based on your recommendation.
The "choked up position" is actually the way both are intended to be held.
me and lots of other knife nuts own both of these(PM2 and PARA 3)change of scales!and there you go,thank you.

I have small hands so my p3 fits like a glove...Love it
for fore finger and thumb grip!the PM2 is hard to beat!witch is why its so loved.
Have them both, PM2s and the Para 3. Both are great. Have the Lynch clip as well on my P 3 makes a lot of sense with the deep carry clip.

The 2 feels better in hand then the 3..u r right.. great vid..
I wonder when they switched to the stonewash on the Para 3. Maybe when they changed over to S45vn...
Nice review and selection of knives.
Great video man hit it on the head. wish you would make more vids but I have a family and kids and know time is short. Love the channel...
The lanyard hole is where the clip should be . They could've used the clip with the hole in the center if they really had to put a lanyard hole in it .
Would like to see the tear down video and polishing the washers on the para 3.
here in the philippines it cost 300 dollar cant afford that so i bought a clone cost me 25 dollar and its really good knife i used it everyday.
I could care less that the clip is not a deep carry ,wished the lanyard hole was not even there .I wear blue jeans & T-shirts 99 percent of the time ,I could care less about tip up or tip down ? What do you do about the edc situation with school and all?
I'd the para 3 as smooth as the 2?
Thank you for the vid. Very well done as usual.
I like the pm2 but I would like to see the blade a little bit longer to match the handle. That offset kinda bugs me. Once I bought my orange s90v manix my love kinda left the pm2 to this one.
My 3 isn't 100% center either it's action is fine but I noticed it as well not sure if it's a big deal
I like the look of the Paramilitary 2, but the Para 3 looks terrible. I think it's because they squashed it lengthwise without changing the blade and handle height. It looks like a picture that was resized in one axis but not the other.
Lol im the exact opposite
Para 3 is in the best knife on earth
My favorite knife is the spyderco Dice
Had preorder para 3 came to me with no detente and scratchy action returned next day still late the pm2 and my military's
Still remember where you got that titanium clip?
Uhm they already have the deep carry clip. The wire one. Not sure why they won’t put it on the para series. Even on a sprint run.
It’s beautiful, your insane
I’d be worried that the blade tip might break. Rally thin.
Good video. Please mention price of knives in videos.
Ryan the temp reviewing knives
iCabeAllred ryan the temp like from the Office?
I hope anybody who’s looking at self defense with a knife has had a lot of training. It’s not like a pistol , knife fighting is a tough thing to master
I don't own either of the two but probably will pick up a para2

Getting that pm3 thanx to you
Good review but the knife is not a Para Military 3. It is a Para 3. Sorry if I am nit picking. I like the Para Military 2 followed by the Para Military and then the Para 3. It is called a Para 3 because of the 3 inch blade length.
This is in the family of the Military line.. the 3 is for the 3 gen.. Also blade length is 2.95 is we're being "nit picky"

I like you knife comparisons but I don't see my self being able to justify a CR knife. I'll stick with Spyderco knifes.
two videos in one day sweet!
I could use a couple more examples of small and large plz :)
Jk love your vids think you just put 3 out and only 1 is over 10 minutes that's a problem need more longer vids from u man
Love the energy all these people are like life sucks I wanna die your like WHATS UP EVERYBODY
Quisiera saver el precio se podra saber
If you can carry a para 3, you can carry a manix lightweight version....that I still prefer.
Me gustaria tener este modelo
I will never own a pm3 2 is fully serrated again. I just got one. Just dont see the point.
thx you!
Cool
Well when your talking spyderco you have to put in the hype cost !
Here we go with the knife shame.
I enjoy your videos. Thank you
pm3 short blade? i prefer pm2
Sabenza is almost all hype cost !
dale carpenter says the guy who can’t afford one and has never handled a sebenza.
It’s “Para” 3 NOT “Paramilitary” 3!!!
Lynch clip!
how do u take it apart
TheLaneyzf, I don't see how you can remove the scales either... You need to be able to maintain the knife. Not good.
Remove the pivot screw and the handle screw on the opposite end. Pull the handles apart until the stop pin clears the handle. Swing the top scale clockwise using the lanyard hole as the pivot point. I did this to mine this morning and polished the washers and it is perfect.
DOH! Nice. 👍

Damn near restarted the video, but I don't like to edit or redo videos, all raw and one take. Things get weird every now and then :D
Horrible action especially when need to use it fast
