I HOPE its not the end now. If so, I am disgusted by the way the park, and chain are not even giving any announcement. I still say the park would benefit MORE from keeping it going next year, and giving the worlds tallest coaster a proper sendoff. I already had plans on a trip that way next summer. Was going to hit Great adventure, Dorney, and Hershey. But cedar fair up to their same old selves. They gave us no warning that Geauga Lake was closing either. Im still mad about that.

It's really a pretty great park to be honest. And I understand the financial reasons. But why not make money off of it. Give us the retirement tour? Give it one last year, make all kinds of merch to sell. But Cedar Fair gonna Cedar Fair. Oh, but let's pour tons of money in Cedar Point. Ugh. This merger is the worst. And I live in the middle of 4 of the parks, and I still kinda hate it
I agree, damn cowards they are. They know what closing the ride will do to their image, but chose to be cowards about it. I almost want to cancel my membership over this!

I just drove out there to make sure i rode it just in case it did close. I held out hope that maybe they would refurbish it, and extend the layout like it should have had originally, but..... The ride opp that was checking the height requirement as soon as you enter the station said that he knew about it for 4 months and for fear of losing his job couldn't tell anyone.
It was at that moment my heart broke and I decided that Kingda Ka would be my only ride today because I was visibly upset.
I didn't realise it till i got home, but my handicap access paper was stamped with a Kingda Ka stamp. Which is proof that I rode it on its last day.
And let me tell you that it felt like it was operating at its full speed of 128mph. It was the fastest ride I've ever had on it by far! They normally operate it slower than the max speed to keep wear and tear to a minimum, but since it was the last day, they said full tilt baby, I suppose anyway. Not every train got a speeding ticket though. I was just fortunate to receive that gift from the rollercoaster gods.
The blue and orange trains were running today and the ride opps were chugging out trains at a blistering pace.
Also, there were massive lines for Kingda Ka merch! And most people were getting it to scalp obviously. I mean who needs 10 sets of K. K. models? I'm home now and wanted to share my experience today. Thanks for putting this video out! You do great entertaining work!
I guess if they were planning this for months at least we might get something good next year
At the start of the day they were running green too, you’re right though, they were firing trains out there, so happy I got to be a part of history by riding it

I Work for six Flags. Not gonna say which one lol But Ka is not getting removed, only green lantern. As the coaster is 20 years old it’s due for some modern Day Advancements/changes to Make it more reliable & Marketable(installing LSM)I don’t agree with them not coming out & officially saying what’s going on, but as we see even with the “rumors” going around how still popular it is. In closing idk what the Reimagining will be but I can for sure say Ka isn’t going anywhere. & no I’m not the dipping dots guy
I considered that rumor but didn't think LSM technology was advanced enough. So I decided to address Kingda Ka now and then make an update whenever Six Flags mentions any of the rumors.
Also the parachutes which was confirmed in 2022

I mean, you say that, but the new “Six Flags” (which is really just rebranded Cedar Fair) now owns both Intamin Strata coasters in existence and they just tanked major CapEx re-inventing the other one……so why would they feel the need to keep the one that’s nothing but a maintenance nightmare?
As someone who has ridding kingda ka 220 times it has s place in my heart and will be surely missed btw kingda ka had way less down time than top thrill. This guy gets it

Oh well, at least I got on El Toro, which was amazing, and finally got the Xcelerator credit about a year ago.
that sucks. my dad and sister missed it then too. I got to ride earlier this year and multiple times last year. Still not happy i didnt get to say goodbye..
I called the Park. This is totally not true. The ride is closing for the season today. They said this is a Social Media Stunt and the ride is NOT CLOSING FOR GOOD!!!!

I really wish that I was able to get on this. I live in Chicago too but this is like, THE roller coaster that you see online. Even before I was an enthusiast this was that iconic coaster for everyone. Really sad I’ll have to see it go. My only hope now is the intamin track extension that they wanted to give top thrill
In my opinion, my top choice for iconic coaster that's still going strong after 25 years of operating, is Millennium Force...Kingda Ka I didn't care for it because it was at a park chain that I didn't care for in the first place. But Cedar Fair though, that company is my top favorite theme park chain of all time.

@@Random_Eebs That too..Again, that's my preferred choice. And Kingda Ka to me, was basically just a taller and redesigned version of Top Thrill Dragster. And the train model of the coaster is similar to the ones used at Hershey Park's Storm Runner (which is still running 20 years plus to this very day).
If they close Ka for good, this will deeply impact the park attendance for 2025. Removing 5 rides, two of them being coasters, would kill out if area park goers. Sure locals will still go, but I won’t be traveling 2,000 miles to visit like we were planning. Thanks for the video!
Guys i have a theory, i think they haven’t said anything about the rumors because they know it will bring in more traffic, but after it closes for the season then they might finally say something like its being improved or something
The only time I rode Kingda Ka I spent the whole ride with my hand clamped to my glasses on my face in a panic. Big lesson learned; always take off your glasses before going on a ride

Same live in cali and it’s my favorite coaster ever and I have never been to new jersey
I went and took a trip out to Great Adventure from central Florida from the rumors to make sure I got my own final rides on it. I got a dozen laps with half being front row. Really glad I got on it one last time!
Not even just 3 rides being removed. If the rumors are true, it's gonna be a crime scene at SFGA. Parachutes, Green Lantern, Twister, Kingda Ka, Zumanjaro, and there's also been rumors floating around about the Sky Ride being done for.
I've been lucky to ride twice (considering I live in the UK) . once front row, once in the middle. as much as a thrill this was, el-toro just pipped it to the post in my fav coaster at 6 Flags

Don’t feel bad It’s been 19 years since this ride was built and I have never visited this park at all. Kingda Ka was on my on my bucket list but I will never get that chance now. So there will be no point for me to visit this park anymore if they’re getting rid of it. I hope they replace it with something that lives up to KIngda Ka’s name.

I went there with my father for my 18th birthday back in 2014 and let me tell you this ride being my freak of heights was the best roller coaster I ever been on. That and el toro. Sure gonna miss it even tho I went there once and never again 😅
They should replace aka with either: a giant S&S air launch coaster (reason: Maxx seems pretty reliable, it’s always open whenever I go) or a B&M giga (launched or not), along WITH a 500ft drop tower.

@@Tribenix I feel like an s&s air launch could replace Ka’s hydraulic launch, no? Maxx force is my home park launch coaster and the speed and acceleration on that mf is absolutely wild. Doing that to ka could be a viable option. Also, if they were to go the b&m route, i would hope they make the first ever b&m strata
Sorry you missed your chance on riding it. I went with my son and daughter in 2017. I’m in Illinois too and I drove 900 miles from Fairview Heights to ride that on Labor Day weekend and it was the first ride we went on and it was awesome. The other two best rides in the park are Nitro and El Toro should’ve went back and rode it again, but I plan to visit the park again someday just for El Toro Nitro and hopefully something new and good. They will have there. They do have a single track RMC, which I’m glad of the first one I ride was wonder, woman in San Antonio.
Also think it’s because Six Flags will keep all those records with their new overseas park in Qiddiya, so I don’t think they care about the marketing advantages anymore. Kingda Ka will only be second tallest now!
Kingda Ka actually ran pretty well in my limited experience as a Six Flags America passholder and not as one of a local Great Adventure passholder. There was the problem in year one where they had to relocate the queue due to shrapnel from the cable. I believe it was in '12/'13 where it sat either partially dormant or fully dormant. This was during the same year as Superstorm Sandy perhaps or a hurricane as the power company had staged their trucks in the parking lot. While I rode it many times, nothing will surpass ride no. 1. Picture it, it's Frightfest ;05 and it's brutally cold. It's gone down, and no guarantee for a ride. I've driven about 3 hours in rush hour traffic from Baltimore for one ride. It finally reopens a few hours later and I get train 2 out. To say I was nervous was an understatement for the launch. Finally, we went and the wind chill was god awful. It was a short ride, but the most impressive part was the airtime over the huge bunny hill. I never once felt that again.
im not from the US but this hits hard, even from the UK, the closest things you would actually get to ka now is red force and maintenance nightmare (stealth)

TBH, this is not surprise me at all considering that Cedar Fair just bought Six Flags and they just had that huge headache with top thrill. They just wanted to get rid of all of their intamin launch coasters to simplify maintenance
Most of the markers are not excavation markers. All the markers by ka are orange which are communication lines. There are white markers near lantern and twister and the parachutes but there are none even close to ka. I think they will extend the layout and add lsms
Respectfully I must educate you as a former union carpenter that surveyed. No they aren't, they are elevation survey points.
@ I just looked up what orange means and yes it is communication, alarm or signal lines, cables or conduits. Google could be wrong but I also looked it up on many different websites and all said the same thing.

Most of them I’ve seen are also triangles. That usually indicated a station point. Known places where they survey FROM.

Im in the same boat as you. I only started really getting i to coaster enthusiasm a couple of years ago and I'm in AZ. So I just haven't had a chance to do an east coast trip yet. But my wife and I were wanting to go to either Chicago, NYC, or PA for our next few big trips. So Great Adventure has seemed right around the corner for me.
I regret not writing that ride for the rest of my life.
Trust me I backed out of Top Thrill Dragster when it was operating well and yeah I sincerely regret it.
I'm glad so many enthusiasts were able to ride Kingda Ka before it closed, but I am literally so angry right now. I grew up loving roller coasters, and Kingda Ka was always at the top, literally and figuratively. I had hoped that if Kingda Ka did close, Six Flags would wait until 2025 to start removing it because I might've gone over there during Christmas break since I'm in college right now. I know Kingda Ka had problems, but this was such an iconic ride - apart from El Toro, it was THE reason to go to Great Adventure. And now I, along with many others, are never going to be able to ride it. The fact that Six Flags didn't give Kingda Ka of all coasters a proper sendoff is so disrespectful and infuriating. I'd hope Six Flags would try to redo it, like with top thrill 2, but I doubt it. Screw Six Flags and Cedar Fair. I am just SO PISSED right now. Good video otherwise.

It's sad that it feels like no one's going to buy Kingda Ka to reopen it, due to the known maintenance costs. Would be cool to see it continue on elsewhere, or be used for the framework for another ride, but it's probably not to be.
I think the funniest possibility of all would be to move it to SA and construct it directly under the Falcon's Flight arch. In some alternate universe, that's absolutely happening, and it's hilarious.
I get it but with kingda ka going I think they should make a hyper coaster that is an actual ride that is like 1:30 to 2 minutes long. Great adventure has one of the best locations and it should be treated like a top park and I think that would be the best way to do it

I honestly think Cedar Fair Is a head of you on that thinking. Great Adventure will get a 300+ Strata coaster in 2026 to surpass Fury325, Leviathan, Millennium Force and I305 at King's Dominion. I think the coaster will tap in close to 360ft.
Ive been coming to this park since i was a kid in the 90's. Im happy that we had Kingda Ka, sad to see it go.. but it's understandable. Replacing it (and Green Lantern) with a giga would definitely ease the pain though!
Me neither will never get the chance sadly, I live by Chicago too, and just had an emergency surgery about a month ago to get my appendix out, so that’s my luck. 😂 thanks for no notice six flags.

There’s been survey markers put down for weeks, the ride ops in the station were confirming it is closing, and permits were just filed to remove green lantern. I don’t think it gets completely taken out, but the ride as you know it will be gone. I assume they’re gonna convert it to LSM’s and add an extended layout. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

So let me get this straight they think that the ride is to expensive so let’s spend millions to remove it then let’s spend 50 million dollars on another coaster that no one cares about but enthusiasts? Makes sense
Exactly. They're gonna drop another 20-50 million on another coaster. Why not use that money and put it towards keeping Kingda Ka running for another 20+ years (deeming it takes 1 to 2 million a year to keep it running) I would rather have them keep the King of rides alive.

Kingda Ka is a legend. Without it SFGA is just another SF park. Axing the two tallest rides in the world in their own categories is a dumb idea.
They can build a 1,000ft tall ride for all I care, won't be going back.
My disappointment is at an 11. I live in Michigan and am planning a big trip next June, starting with SFGAdv, but alas, too late to ride Kingda Ka. Shame on the park for handling it this way.
btw Twister is going too. 4 RIDES GONE IN ONE YEAR. This has to be a world record for most rides closed in a year at a major park besides full park closures.

I also live by chicago and have the same story you do. I have never been able to ride it because I simply live too far away to find enough time to go to the park.
So many of us don’t remember the confirmed closing of the parachutes in 2022 and everything but the tower is gone and the arrows are actually all pointed towards it

Yeah I have lived in New Jersey my whole life, and I never got on it (mostly because I am a massive wimp).
I have a feeling Six Flags was planning on giving Ka the TT2 treatment. Then all the problems started with TT2 and they’re opting to remove it instead of risking another large investment with no guarantee the ride will even be able to open. Why spend the money on a risky project when you can spend the money on a B&M and be guaranteed a reliable coaster.
Although cedar fair and now this six flags corp are seeming to keep everything under wraps. Who knows if they magically figured out TT2 already and haven't said anything. They may have learned an awful lot from it and could be ready to do the same here. Or there's another company that had previously bid on the TT2 reimagining and may be able to better guarantee their work... Certainly being someone who'd actually worked with tall fast coasters before. I dunno, time will tell. 🤔
they may use the intamin proposal that was rejected due to iron dragon being way more popular than green lantern, which will include extension of layout this time, instead of another swing launch

For the first new attraction at SFGA after the merger - it MUST exceed the expectations of the guests and the coaster that it is replacing.
For a short while before falcons flight opens in Saudi Arabia. Top thrill two. Will be the largest (standing) coaster. However it’s still a huge disappointment such a cool and iconic model is now extinct.
That will also be a maintenance nightmare
To be completely honest. The chance of falcons flight staying open is slim. There are a million reasons why that ride is ridiculously dangerous. If top thrill 2 reopens, it'll probably be the only working tallest coaster

I'm extremely salty with this decision. The same arguments about Kingda Ka's removal could've been made for Top Thrill. Cedar fair revamped theirs and plans to trash their competitors model. Come on! SFGA is the best park in the northeast so lets not pretend like they don't attract the crowds to fund the ride expenses/renovations. Lets call it out for what it is.

You are neither right or wrong about it closing right now. On one hand its not been confirmed. On the other hand you did the right thing just in case you are right. I tend to think a closing is at least eventual
I know very little about this for sure. I have Heard the same rumors you are all hearing. I will say IT WILL NOT get the Zamperla conversion. IT CAN'T. New Jersey state law does not allow that. The law in this state would only allow Intamin to renovate this coaster. That much we know. But the closing could well happen. My guess is if not this season - next year sometime. The coaster is damaged but still safe. Lightning hit it this past summer playing a role in Zumanjaro not opening much if ever. Hey back in 1995 WYNY was rumored to be ending Country Music Programming and late winter 1996 that happened. I think Kingda Ka will either be razed or renovated. If its to be razed it may close - well may just never reopen - Its November. My feeling is these are the possibilities
. I KNOW ITS NOT BEING TORN DOWN RIGHT NOW!!!! They need building permits to d this and they do not have these YET. But it could be SBNO soon though and eventually torn down. ANY HOW HERE ARE THE SCENERIOS
1. It closes imminently for the season - NOTHING IS SAID ALL WINTER. Then in March its still standing - BUT NO OPENING - NO REASONS - rumors it will never again will open are rampant and park employees are all saying they doubt it will reopen. It stays standing throughout 2025 while Lantern is announced to be removed which is already carried out by April 2025. KIngda Ka remains SBNO until the end of 25 and then torn down. Announcements are made Fall 25 about one replacement for 2026 (maybe a drop tower and small coaster) and one for 27 (another tall recrd breaker of some sort - B & M Gigi or Srata or a MACK rides 400 something coaster.
2. It closes with an announcement on a replacement in a matter of weeks after KIngda Ka closed for Holiday In Park. So still no last rides and both coasters are removed an similar announcements are made for new coasters and rides for 2026.
3. It does close as usual in a matter of days and reopens as usual in March with no announcements to the contrary but Lantern is gone. The coaster runs as usual with usual blemishes but nothing disasterous. Then in August they announce its indeed going too and they announce the 2026 or 2027 replacement. KIngda Ka then gets torn down that fall and construction begins for a lareg coaster, a small one, and a couple other rides.
4. Same as three or one except Kingda Ka gets renovated by Intamin.
5. Same as 1 or two except nothing is announced.
6. NUmber three except Kingda suffers a huge breakdown and closes May. June or July and fixing it is just too costly - like Volcano. They announce it wont reopen late in 25 and its replacement is announced.
I think removing KIngda Ka and tearing it down will happen. Just like as a teen and young adult in 1995 I knew WYNY 103.5 would drop country and put another station on in its place (The current WKTU), Question is where are we in the process? Where WYNY was in January 95?, September 95? December 95? (ended Country Feb 5 96 and became KTU February 10) or January 28 of 1996 when they announced it? Some say we are where WYNY was at the end of January of 96 which means the coaster is closing soon if not already permanently. Others say we have about a year. I am hoping its about a year but I am very worried that its closer to a few days. My guess is the Number 2 scenerio. HOPE TO GOD I AM WRONG....I AM WORRIED. I never liked country music anyway though as for losing WYNY way back then

The no announcements, no "Hey guys, next year is the last year we can justify running Ka. Come to Great Adventure in 2025 to get your last rides, and give this icon the sendoff it deserves."
Tons of people would flock to Great Adventure next year. More than enough to offset the costs for one more year. I HATE this about cedar fair. No transparency at all. They know we are still gonna come no matter what.

I am not entirely convinced that it's getting removed like yes it has it's issues but some including me are speculating that Zamperla could be doing an lsm conversion heavily discounted for the ride since obviously with the flop of tt2 Cedar Flags isn't happy with Zamperla and we already know what Cedar Fair loves doing to manufacturers that make them mad(blacklist) although I will be honest I think this new conglomerate is going to have to work with all manufacturers including the ones that they've had issues with but back to what I was saying Zamperla likely wants to avoid being blacklisted by one of the biggest amusement companies in the United States and to get on good terms with Cedar Flags they likely offered to heavily discount an lsm conversion for kingda ka to get on good terms as I've said before but this is just speculation.

The choice to axe Kingda Ka isn't saltines over stealing the height record; it's their open hatred toward that ride model. It's clearly an experience headache, like El Toro. Maybe maintenance costs are the reason Great Adventure isn't considered profitable enough for big investments.

well six flags with zero warning, zero announcement, and zero call for last rides just closed down la bivora at fiesta for good.. weird huh how under new management they shut down a problematic coaster. sure it's not like kai, but given it was down more than not and has to be 100% drier than the desert to run why would you keep it around.. people need to wake up and see cedar fair being apart of the management now is going to end up badly for everyone. i can't wait for this to start coming down so I can relish in all those nay sayers eating that humble pie realizing they were wrong.

There have been thousands of rides on King Da Ka in the last 20 years. Not a single person has been injured. There is nothing dangerous about it.
It's just costly to upkeep that's the only "bad" thing about it.
I don't know if you realize the Great adventure likes to take the records right after one is made or be the first. I really think they're going to try to beat falcons fury if they really do take it down.,.. and if not it's not going anywhere
I tell everybody to call the Park itself. You are 100% able to do this and ask questions... But yes it is closing for the 2024 season with four other coasters or so...
They literally just replaced the launch cable and flywheel or whatever it's called
