As much as I don't like Sonic.Exe, I'll admit that the story behind it is actually pretty interesting. There's been many claims that suggest that Sonic.Exe is more popular than Sonic himself. I find it incredible that fans can make a whole story/universe off of a creature that looks like Sonic but is actually meant to terrify its community and players. It's interesting to see Sonic Team acknowledge the existence of this fan universe and possibly hinting at it maybe being canon as an alternate universe. I'm happy for those who have a fondness for Sonic.Exe, but I probably never will. It's not something that was made for me.

It would touch on that later with Amy having a breakdown over Creams death and Shadow's dissapearance.

Whereas the sonic multiverse comes from a world where Sonic is a living breathing entity in a bright colorful world. We could have an EXE-esque universe, like say Super Scourge disguised himself as Sonic and infiltrated another universe to kill everyone for pleasure, but for anything similar to what happened in X's timeline to happen, would be unlikely, and would hence kinda make it only possible as a reference, and not a full blown canonized world.
