It seems silly now, but nothing filled me with more anxiety than this game when I was kid. The stress when everything sped up, the ghosts were zipping to the Zuul building out of control, red flashing everywhere. But nothing compared to the sheer terror of the ghosts rushing to form the marshmallow man before I could blindly scramble for the 'B' key.

Reading through the comments it is good to see so much love still for this game and the C64 itself in 2020. Iv still got my C64 set up next to my PS4. And I still play this game alot. Iv got a whole page of codes in a notepad to continue with previously made credits. Thank for uploading this vid
The new film was just a crummy, unfunny, poorly written/paced and juvenile piece of junk remake that has a shitty script that lacks the brains/witty humor of the original screenplay of the classic film and lacks the edginess/darkness of the first 2 and i'm glad it flopped, some things outta be left alone.
my childhood memories just flashed back :-) we really enjoyed playing Commodore 64 games. Hard to believe for today's high definition playstation kids, right? I think our imagination offset bad graphics.
Until this very day, there has yet to be a superior Ghostbusters game or anything like it. It was perfect, the management part of it, the job part of it, the storyline part of it, and the trap gameplay was AMAZING!
I remember how thrilled was when I've first heard the synthesized "Ghostbuster" voice of this :) Could never complete the game but that's no surprise because I could barely understand English back then.
István Nagy I remember being around 8years old and repeatedly making it shout 'Ghostbusters!' thinking it was amazingly advanced and awesome. Loved it lol. BEST BIT in videogame history!
OMG, I was screaming at my tv screen as he waited for the buildings to turn red. If you find a purple one, drive to it and catch your yellow ghosts. By the time you arrive, Slimer will be there or not and there is no driving time,
@Angry Deli $5000 dollars in 1984 would be $12,164.39 in 2019. That's nothing for saving the world. If i saved the world, i would want a trillion dollars.
I remember getting so good at this game I was able to buy the exotic sports car--it got to the buildings in no time! To make it that far you don't have time to fool around with the streams--just release the trap as soon as the ghost gets near it.
I loved this game! My saddest memory is when I finally beat it. I went to tell my dad and sister, who also played it. Neither believed me and they told me to stop lying. I was devastated.
This was my favourite C64 game. My parents bought it for me as an Easter present when i was about 10 yrs old, and I got in trouble because I woke them up playing it, at about 5am the next morning 😅
Oh, Egon Spengler. Yes, I always used that name when I played this game back then. I actually spent two hours today playing this game. Never managed to sneak more than one guy padt the marshmallow man, but I worked up $83100 for my next game.
One thing I always liked about this game that I didn’t know when I was a child and my sister, brother and I used to play it on our C64 is what a great demonstration it is of the limited amount of notes you could hear from that computer and how innovative the programming of the soundtrack was. The first couple of times remember watching them play the game interpretation of the theme music sounded kind of silly.
I played this game as a little kid every chance I got. Even input the 600 characters long code you get to take your vehicle into other games so I could eventually upgrade everything and beat the game.
When I discovered David Crane made the Ghostbusters game I was, "Wait, what? That piece of crap?" I'm glad to see the original version is MUCH better than the Japanese ported NES game.
I remember playing the hell out of this as a kid. It was an inherited copy (possibly pirated) and had zero instructions with it. I always wound up broke with a ruined city, but had fun anyway.
When you complete the game, it generates a bank account code so you can play again with your new bank balance :) The codes were based on your previous game.
Dang...so that was the object of the game...I didnt realize you had to stop those ghosts ....We used to just play this without even knowing how to play.
@@KempTheReignman you have to purchase the 'ghost bait' at the begining of the game. You can only lay bait 3 times so save it for when the marshmallow man forms.
I use to love this as a kid. It got proper tense when everything was flashing red on screen with the ghosts flying in from all directions. God I used to get pissed when I hit B too early ...thinking about it I remember just wanting to get off the map screen as soon as poss lol . I'd even go to a building when it wasn't flashing 😄
I can't remember if the high-performance car was pink or not, but this is the only car you can't buy on your first playthrough because it's too expensive. If you beat the game, you can afford to buy it the next time you play.
I used to play this too but also enjoyed the Sega Master System version. The nintendo one i hated but if that was the one a friend brought over at least we'd talk about the cartoon.
Echo all that been said about this game , awesome back in the day . I played it till was sick of it lol. Soooooo good ! Loved the stay puft man being caught .such great memories . Don't make em like that anymore . .
I had a copy of this game years ago & it had a Space Invaders style game that you played while the game was loading, what is funny is that if you fail to catch a ghost it will come down & slime you & you would hear a voice saying "He slimed me".
Allen Jeremy Ahh yes, the famous Invade-a-load game ;) I think it used the music from "One Man and his Droid" by Rob Hubbard as backing music. In fact, Invade-a-load was often better than the actual game you were loading up!
After turning off the computer it was still possible using the account for the next game. You only have to make sure, that it is more than the money at the start of the game. The „station wagon“ was great, but the „high performance“ was only for some fun with speed. If you have the „PK Energy Detector“ you could get $900 per ghost instead of only $200.
I know the limits of graphic now but I didn't as a 4 year old playing this in 1990 and I wished I could've had more of the Firehouse especially around the Containment Unit.
Finally...30 plus years later I finally know how this game ends
Same here.
Same same.

Same! My game would always crash. Always had to take the floppy disk out and restart.

You nailed it, I felt the exact same way.
I remember it well, when the whole screen was flashing tiles, exhilarating and exhausting.
I remember playing this as a kid. You knew when you got your first Marshmallow Man, shit got real
Getting under its legs was the hardest part
This used to be my favorite game on C64. Man do I feel old.
Dr Ivo Robotnik I've just downloaded it on my tablet , C64 emulator , plays pretty good , but I must dig out my trusty old C64 and play it properly!

The C64 version of this was the best.
A lot better than the NES Version.
played this to death on the C64
It wasn't really "death," of course - just getting slimed. ;-)
This game is legendary. I loved this back in the day. I got goosebumps when the city started flashing red lol
The voice at the start is better than the NES voice.
Not exactly that hard though
The laugh definitely adds more character
Absolutely: the C64 sid and the fantastic team of the Electronic Speech Systems of Berkeley (CA) makes the difference!!!
The music is also way better

David Crane is truly a visionary and a master of programming and design. He was untouchable back then
It's amazing how playable this seems compared to the NES version.
This has aged surprisingly well compared to a lot of the era.
David Crane was so ahead of his time
I don't think I ever got past the Staypuff Marshmellow Man at the end when I played this as a kid. Now when I watch it, it seems simple.
Words cannot describe how cool this game was in 1980s!
RIP Ted i still miss you we had such happy times with the Commodore 64 in the early 80s you were ahead of your time for an old man

the "Ghostbusters!" voice sounds infinitely better here than it did on Nintendo, the little laugh at the end was a nice touch too

The greatest movie tie in game to this day. Fact.
Listening to "Ghostbusters" every Halloween always brings me back to playing this game as a kid.

Good that you didn't have to deal with getting gas or beating the drunk drivers, OR that long tedius climb up the stairs in the Zuul building.
