I understand the intend of your last comment, that there's no guarantee that anyone is 100% safe. But stats have shown that violent crime has dropped in every developed country for the last 20 years. I don't want people to not be careful, but I think people shouldn't be fearful - as that's become a common cause of violent reactions, as opposed to violent intentions.
In this situation, it was the trust between groups that solved the case - and I'm optimistic we'll be moving in that direction.

It’s funny how people who want to mimic true crime and think their knowledge will help them escape capture are, in fact, incredibly reckless. She never considered the cameras tracking her. Emailed her victim with her own device. Used a taxi without thinking she’d seem suspicious. Incredible

Exactly I don't understand how they do all this research and still do the dumbest things to get caught. Like leaving her apartment six times? And then acting suspicious with the taxi driver, not using a false identity? I mean like come on. I mean it wasn't like a crime of opportunity. she literally planned it and still managed to act so sloppy. Like how do people not have common sense. For an introvert, isolation is bliss and has no negative connotations, many introverts can function perfectly well in society and think of socializing as a chore rather than something to look forward too. Of course there are outliers, but the same can be said about extroverted personalities, a narcissist derives pleasure from manipulating other people. Many of the people who climb to the highest ladders of our society do so because they come off as sociable but are really just good at manipulating people. So, I disagree that isolation, in all its forms is a dark thing, it can be a beautiful thing too, you can learn to be self-reliant and completely at peace with oneself and be isolated from society.

@@Halfshanks There are very, very few people in the world that can handle long-term isolation. The vast majority of introverts will also be harmed by extended isolation. There are literally hundreds of papers written about this. Came to the comments to agree that I do not think media influences people to become killers.
If there is a link between violent media (movies and video games) and killers, the link is not, "Violent media turns people into killers."
My hypothesis is simply that various people receive various things from games, books, and movies. I might play something like Call of Duty because I enjoy a skilled based first person shooter game and competing against others to see who has superior tactics and aim. Somebody ELSE might play Call of Duty because they fantasize about shooting people for fun.
The problem is that you can't really tell one apart from the other unless they tell you about it.
So... my guess is something was already wrong with her. She was already unhappy with her life and wanting to see what it felt like to commit a murder. The movie could have inspired her specific crime, but it wasn't what inspired her to commit *a* crime in the first place.

It doesn't matter how good mental health help is because all the mental help in the world cannot cure evil. If a person is hell bent on committing atrocious acts, therapy isn't going to stop them. People are individual beings with free will, and ultimately will do what they want to do. That's definitely some psychopath type of stuff, even if you live in isolation for many years, grow a hatred for society and things like that, there's just a large mental barrier, like a fear of the pure horror scenario a murder would be like on top of how awful and unfair it would be for that unfortunate victim, that would keep you from even seriously thinking of taking someones life. Young people today can, and often do, have interests and connections completely unrelated to where they live: they can curate specific interests on the internet and create a persona essentially independently. Couple this with isolation and you can get rather warped people. I can say this applies to my own life as well. The grandfather probably raised his granddaughter with as much of the views and values he'd developed through his life, but young people with the internet can truly end up believing and being any way they want, unpredictably and almost uncontrollably.
