- Creating a buck travel patterns on your small parcel, can be accomplished by moving deer within a highly defined arrangement of powerfully appropriate habitat improvements. Bedding areas, mock scrapes, waterholes, food plot and deer travel corridors should be created within a line of deer movement that builds the potential for a combination of treestands that takes advantage of the buck movements that the properly alligned habitat features create. Here is how you can collect bucks within incredibly powerful travel patterns to offer you the ability to not only be the #1 herd influencer in a neighborhood of small parcels, but to allow you to shoot your target bucks at an extremely unfair advantage compared to any other hunter in the neighborhood.
I absolutely love your videos and your passion! I read, watch videos and most importantly I get out there in the woods and observe as much as I possibly can. All of that paid off last night for me. By Gods grace, I harvested a beautiful 8 point. Although I would’ve rather harvested him via my bow in bow season, I’ll take the blessings of the gun kill last night! I am a novice hunter really though nearly 60 now. I always followed someone else on hunting trips. They would just say go here, go there, stay in the stand until... etc etc.. This year I bought 30 acres and listened to what this cat had to say and adopted it to my piece of land and this morning I bagged my first buck after stalking him for about 1/4 mile I got up on him, wind in my favor, peak (ish) rut time and a young buck moving down a corridor and bedding area (Just my assessment) that my neighbors help make accidently when they logged on the other side of the fence. so like you said he saw me but did not smell me even though he heard me. A doe would have bolted on 2 and a mature buck on 1 sense compromised. So thanks deer dude. From Casey County Kentucky. - still learning

Another bang on video. I watch other "whitetail habitat" videos now that talk about head high hinges and canopy and think to myself, "Ohhh Jeff wouldn't do that!" Your insight to whitetails is incredible.
Thank you very much for...that really means a lot to me! I cringe just because I have seen it fail over such a wide spread area...even after some that make videos, were contracted to completed the cuttings. The landowner is wondering why several years later why they are not working.
Anyways I really appreciate the feedback...it certainly adds fuel to the fire!

Great.. we started using your advice to connect newest water holes . We Have our minexcavator ... up at camp ...now ..we made them smaller ..and back lil bit in woods ..... about 60 yrd or more ...then food plot ...next is to Make a travel cooridor to the water holes and food plots .. in our newest added on 50acres

Looks a lot bigger than 30 acres. Could you do a video showing how you would access some of your stands with the same map in this vid? That'll really help us, more so than the actual stand sites. My biggest challenge has always been "how the heck do I get in here and get out without being detected".
If you scout your area and know the travel corridores and terrain then its as easy as knowing what the wind direction is and how your thermals work and how that plays into your area and you can predict deer movement. If deer are coming from a direction you didnt expect then you havent done your home work. This man makes theses videos on properties that he walks and scouts thoroughly and puts all the pieces together. He uses his first hand knowledge of the land and his years of proven experiences in the field to put this picture together then duplicates it on other propertys by scouting. Knowledge is key and everything ya need to know the deer leave behind if you know what to look for. Simply put there is no video you can watch that can tell you how to access or hunt your land or anywhere for that matter you need to take some tips and some experience and a lil know how and use that first hand . Ha, thanks Chris! Actually each one of my books focuses on small parcels ☺️ Basically all of my concepts apply to both large and small. The difference is that on large parcels hunters can make a lot of mistakes and still do fairly well. On a small parcel tho, through concepts have to be applied for consistent success.

Great video as always. One thing that I would like to see is how you actually access these hill country stands. It seems that if you are coming up from the bottom that you would blow out a lot of deer from the thermals and elevation advantage that they deer have. Also, a follow-up video on how to access flatter/slightly hilly land would be awesome as well. I feel like I might be going in at the right spot but maybe I am moving too fast? Thanks!

Oh for sure...like a large lake, pasture, highway, river system, open hardwoods, swamp, etc...always, just about anywhere I hunt. There is always something to use.

Jeff I would love to see what you would recommend to people that have properties like we have here in south central Nebraska. I hunt a property that is 160 acres. 22 acres is trees that are 60 yards at the widest point because they follow a creek bottom. There is 9 acres of alfalfa on up next to the trees so that has helped a little but it is rough. The whole square mile has 29 acres of trees and the only trees for several miles either direction only follow the creek the rest is crop ground. What are the best practices for attracting a big buck when every where he looks in the summer there is fresh food to eat in every direction.
Great Information, however not applicable for folks hunting a Public Land.

You know most people start small but I believe if your going to do something then go all out & spare no expense though some people may view this as reckless I see it as a once in a lifetime learning experience with in my opinion a extremely knowledgeable person although I realize there is no guarantee in this venture I also know nothing ventured nothin gained so I say lets drink champagne instead of beer for a change although it’s worth noting I love beer lol so that being sad see ya soon bud.
@@suzmell1 I fully agree Paul, but with that being said this is also a foundation of habitat improvements, deer hunting strategy and herd management that will last as long as you own the land. I have experienced many times over that what you do in the off season has no bearing in the season. I stop all activities with the exception of planting, roughly 4 weeks before the season begins. After all...bucks shouldn't really be on your land to a high degree, until the season actually begins...

@@DRAKED411 you are very welcome Drake! I find there are usually a couple if mature bucks holding around...but the vast majority arrive during the season. I also find mature bucks if focused in your land...will forgive your intrusions after 3-4 weeks. Your land can heal. So if you are stopping most activities about a month prior to the season you cover that period of time for your land to heal...

Hi Jeff your videos have helped me a ton, I'm in Northern MN and when I look for public land hunting spots how do I identify the "Major" food source that would be there evening focus?? Anywhere else it's easy to look for AG but when it's all woods it's different thanks again!

@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 that helps alot thanks as this was my thinking as well but sometimes I way over think things so thanks again I just laid my big boost brassica blend on our own private lots with some Deer Gro Plot start so I'm excited to see the plot! I have winter rye on back order I put that last year and it was like a lush green carpet
I should mention I'm gone the next two weeks and we have been getting alot of rain up north thus why I planted now. And last year I did it to late and I had stunted growth so I went a bit early instead of late

I'm trying to implement what I can, Due to COVID, I had to leave my Deer lease 400+ Acres and I'm working a 20 Acre spot on my daughters place, Lots of pigs but I get an occasional Whitetail Buck, Question is... How do I keep that buck coming in. I see him on Trail cam every couple weeks. I've install a licking branch and use Code Blue Rack Rub, Corn feeder runs regularly but he never hits it, lots vegetation and water around. I've counted up to 3 deer bucks and does at a time on gamecam but only a couple times a month.
Do deer like clean groomed trails or not really?
Jeff, great video; I have a natural corridor that has overgrown grass about knee high; would it be appropriate to mow it down to create more defined corridor edge?
Jeff once again another great video full of information, As fare as hinge cutting goes, It looks like that most of your hing cutting is perpendicular to the travel corridor or line of movement. do you ever hing cut with the tree lying parallel to the line of movement ?
Thanks a lot Doug and that is great that you asked that question. It is not a good idea to ever cut parallel to the intended line of movement...in fact I have seen long stretches of parallel cuttings where deer have completely avoided to cattle shoot it creates...
I hope that helps Doing and if you have completed anybody those parallel cuttings, you just need to cut out holes in the parallel logs every 10-15 yards on either side, randomly.

Hi Jake! Most definitely...in particular if it was between dry bedding and food...or between dry bedding areas for buck cruising opportunity. In fact a mud filled waterhole typically outcompetes a clear cold Creek anyways.

So according to your map, the majority of the travel corridors you created run east to west, with travel connections on the outside of the property running north and south?
They run all directions...east and west movements are north and south up and down benched along major points. The parcel always determines direction though...location of access, cabin, neighbors, etc.
I have to add too...those E/W movements are 2 extremely different elevations...with 2 very high powered N/S connecting them on the east and west sides of the land...
Any point to add water holes if you property has swamp on both sides

This is the same guy who says that peeing in the woods will not hurt your hunting. He says you can even pee in a scrape and it will not hurt it. This is hog wash. Deer will know the difference. If a doe comes to a scrape and pees in it and then a buck comes by 3 hours later he will know if that doe is in estrous or not. If he can tell that then he will know if it is human or deer. You can't believe everything that these so called experts on deer are saying. If you have any common sense at all will tell you that companies are selling and developing deer scents to attract deer not humans.

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 J&J is most likely his own worst enemy... Texas A&M has done studies on human urine in deer scrapes... .. I urinate in gatorade bottles through out the season in NYS and then I freshen up scrapes. The big buck pictures I get are amazing...
