    Good to see that some ENTs are taking this seriously. When I went to an ENT I was very clear about the noise trauma that initiated both the tinnitus and hyperacusis. The ENT, who considered himself to be a world-class expert (in something), completely rejected what I described and insisted that it was just some mysterious random occurrence. He then did some tests that actually made my hyperacusis significantly and permanently worse. He also seemed to be clueless about noise sensitivity when I describe it. In the end he said I didn't have tinnitus and needed to get counseling. That was my experience, so if I don't have much respect for most ENTs, you can guess why.

      T is such a horrible and awful condition, that can badly impacts one's quality of life. It is very serious. We might all give our time to raise awareness to this condition, and for those who can, give money to researchers and institutions in order to find a cure.

    • @Bunny-ft9dy
      @Bunny-ft9dy Рік тому

      Sorry to ask so long after you made this comment but what tests were they?

    • @slydog7131
      @slydog7131 Рік тому

      @@Bunny-ft9dy They ran a few tests. One used white noise of increasing loudness. I was instructed to indicate when I could no longer hear my tinnitus. Well, my tinnitus has a unique signature that I could pick out even when they increased the volume of their white noise. They did not ask me to tell them when the white noise was as loud as my tinnitus but rather when I could no longer hear it. The fact that I was never at the point where I couldn't detect my tinnitus apparently led them to think that it wasn't real.
      They also did a test where a series of clicks was pumped in through headphones. They didn't tell me what the test was for or why they were doing it, and I was too naive with the medical establishment at the time to ask. The clicks were actually loud impact sounds. Immediately afterwards, my hyperacusis worsened and I was no long able to tolerate many environments that I previously could. It was a permanent change that I have never recovered from. Decades later when talking with an audiologist I learned that it was a test to determine if there was a tumor in the nerve tracks, a ridiculous test given the noise trauma connection and a test I would have refused if I had known.
      These ENTs were idiots who were practicing beyond their knowledge base, caused further damage and made my entire life even more difficult as a result.
      If your tinnitus or hyperacusis mysteriously appeared without a clear cause, then go ahead and go to an ENT. They can rule out medical causes. If it occurred due to a noise trauma and you can clearly pinpoint the cause, then STAY AWAY FROM ALL ENTS!!! Or go at your own risk. They can't help you, but they will want to run tests that have the potential of making your life permanently worse. I have heard from others who also had bad experiences with ENTs. If you do go to an ENT, ask them about any tests that will be done, what it entails, why they are doing it and what it will show. If the test involves pumping sounds into your ears (and your condition is clearly due to a noise trauma) then you should strongly consider refusing the test. They will tell you that it won't cause harm, and if it does, they will tell you that their test just could have been at fault.

    Helpful :). Thank you both very much for addressing these important issues. I have had tinnitus for a long time and was told "to just learn to live with it" back when I first asked my GP and then an ENT about its causes. My original diagnosis included a hearing test and I was told that my hearing then was actually very very good. Now, years later, I feel I may have some hearing loss too, and maybe worse tinnitus. I feel better prepared for my next visit to the ENT now that I know that tinnitus is much more complicated than I was lead to believe in the beginning. Hopefully, the ENT will be up to date on this research. How can we as patients encourage our doctors to seek this information? I will likely get a referral to an ENT doctor easily and free of charge as I live in Canada but we are usually not allowed to direct who we actually get to see. It is very disheartening to have someone tell you to toughen up and just live with it.

    This is more geared towards ENT's & audiologists who have no clue how to assist tinnitus sufferers. Not hearing anything new that I haven't heard many many times already over past year & half since my severe reactive tinnitus & hyperacusis onset. Wish you could do a video specifically on more severe cases like reactive tinnitus caused by acoustic trauma instead of these generic video's trying to mostly deal with stress induced tinnitus.
    When you say think of your tinnitus as just another sound like your breathing that tells me you don't understand how loud & disturbing tinnitus can be. That may work in very mild cases like you have Dr. Thompson, but not in more severe cases such as mine. I wake up every day to loud tinnitus throughout my head & ears whether I listen to relaxing music or pink noise or nothing at all. No matter how much I try to tell myself it's not an important sound & not pay attention to it, it still very disrupting & getting back to sleep when I haven't had a full nights sleep is very difficult.

    If it helps, I've had tinnitus [high pitch noise] for over 20 years that I can remember, maybe longer. I don't have a problem with hearing. I would love to know what caused the high-pitched noise. When I've been in a loud situation like a party or loud music the tinnitus will be louder in my ears for many hours later. I remember as a kid, it would come and go, but now as an adult, it is constant. Believe it or not, I forget about it sometimes, but not for long. It is stressful to have it constantly and I believe it makes me tired. I've been to ENT specialist, and they did all the test that took many months, but it was no help. I've been offered noise boxes, but to me that is just adding more annoying sound. It sounds like static noise. I've come to the realization that this is something I will have to live with the rest of my life.
    Thanks for your deep interest for trying to help people with this awful condition.

    My tinnitus began in 1 ear in 2009 when I got the swine flu , then a few years later I got it both ears after being subject to noise, but I always had ear congestion when I got a lot of colds . over the past 13 years it has been up & down from a 1 & don't even think about it , except for my left ear which came with the flu, to a 10 on spike days that just runs it's course like a cold. The Lord helps me get through it , but I also like my what I call my tinnitus room, the basement it's where I regroup , totally private . I would recommend magnesium to help with sleep.

    This was a very interesting conversation however it didn't seem to leave a conclusion that the everyday patient can walk away with. Wouldn't it be nice if there were other doctors like the one who spoke here. But he lives in Germany and is not available to us in the US. I developed tinnitus several years ago and struggled for a long time and then it seemed to calm down to a very low pitch that was not bothersome . Recently I had outpatient surgery and the day after the tinnitus has got very loud and has continued to stay that way . I'm not saying that the surgery caused this to happen but it was unusual because it happened the next day after the surgery. This prompted me to make an appointment with an ENT to see what might be happening . I went to an ENT today who works at a renowned Clinic and he checked me out and said that I could speak with the Audiology department and get hearing aids to help with tinnitus. It's like so many conditions like neuropathy. Everyone says to find the cause but it really doesn't matter because they only treat one way and that is with medication because there is nothing else available. I am very sensitive to medication and have difficulty with a lot of different medications . I don't really want to take gabapentin as it can be addictive and hard to withdraw from. The other thing is autoimmune illnesses that doctors throw everything under the umbrella and leave you with no solution at all . Often times we have to resort to watching UA-cam videos to find out if there is any possible way to find a solution to what we are dealing with . Dr.ben thank you for all the information that you provide on this subject. I can see that you work tirelessly to help people. But my ENT did absolutely nothing. He was not even compassionate about the fact that is a very bothersome condition. However he wants me to come back in 2 months for a checkup. It is very discouraging.

    • @VinzVideo

      @@Andrea11240 I'm in Pennsylvania/US. I only waited 2 days for the MRI, and 2 weeks for the CT. By the way, my CT results came back today - it's great because they send you the radiologist's report, and all of the CT images to your online account with the health network. The doctor ordered the MRI after I had dramatic hearing loss within the one-month time frame that I was seeing him - so there was a sense of urgency. The CT shows that I have dehiscence in the right ear, and also (possibly) in the left ear. Dehiscence is a lack of bone in the superior semicircular canal - either very thin bone or actually missing bone (a hole). But the report said it was missing bone in my right ear. So I have an appointment to see my ENT tomorrow to discuss the results. From my research, this condition was first identified in 1998 - that is really very recent in medical terms. But the repair surgery has advanced quite a lot since then. I don't know yet if I am even a good candidate for surgery, and I don't know if there's any meds that can address the condition.

    Is removing earwax (professionally) not recommended if not needed? The same week my Dr removed some earwax I also had a flare up with my jaw popping. Tinnitus started that week! Not sure if it is my jaw or my earwax being removed? I also am getting thru GBS so my nerve sheaths have been renewing. My neck has been sore too so maybe it is my neck/jaw vs the earwax removal?

    Hi, I got tinnitus during ozone ear insufflation therapy. After doctor treatments 1x per week, the ringing occurred for a short time after each treatment, yet lasted longer. After the 4th treatment, the ringing never stopped after the ear crusting. Its been four years and I always have ringing in my ears. How can I make this stop if the cause was ozone therapy?

      My mom had same problem too. She was complaining about how she can't sleep every night. a few months she didn't take this seriously but eventually she was seen by her doctor and the doctor advised a supplement. But first days didn't show any effects SO she had to patient and after a few weeks she became better. This thing started to happen to me as well. It's genetics i guess and was here to find out actually. Anyway ill get this supplement too probably. because that worked out for my mom. if you're interested, I put the supplement link on my channel "about" section to help youu

    Ben is right saying there is treatment that does make it better in dealing with it. One on one therapy which they provide is highly receommended, Retraining therapy and CBT APP What app? I got to find out. Any improvement is success.

    Hey love your channel btw! Just had a quick question, so basically I was just relaxing sitting down watching UA-cam on my tv and then out of nowhere I felt a little tump like a heart beat in my ear like one single pulse for literally one second, I started panicking very hard, but like it never came back after, it literally just happened once or twice in one minute and just completely went away, just wanted to confirm with you is it normal? I really just started panicking and overthinking about it convincing myself I have a very big issue due to googling.

    I have had tinnitus for 18 years. I learned to habituate with it. Ialso have some hearing loss. But recently its got much worse, which I have put down to a very stressful family situation. But should I wear my hearing aids or try and habituate without wearing these.

    • @treblehealth
      @treblehealth  5 місяців тому

      Wearing the hearing aids along with using sound therapy will help you habituate to your tinnitus. We would be happy to guide you. Schedule a complimentary telehealth consultation: treble.health/consultation
