Thanks, Priscilla! This is amazing. I usually don't bother with thumbnails that will require layers and swapping out the background because when I do them it's just very haphazard. I always love your thumbnails, and I don't know why I found watching this to be so fascinating, but it really was! UA-cam is about to get a flux of nicer thumbnails from everyone! lol
Wow, thank you so much for this tutorial! I've always admired your thumbnails, but I didn't think it would be possible to do without photoshop. (Or if it was, I wouldn't know where to start.) You obviously spent a lot of time learning these skills, and it's so generous to share them like this.
Danika Leigh Ellis No problem :) GIMP is great if you don't have PS. And the techniques like masking, and how to use the pen tool can be used to create many things, not just what I've shown in this tutorial X) Thanks for watching!
Brilliant! My PS professor had us clicking around the picture rather than doing what you did. Your way is sooo much better. Pretty sure I've used downloaded fonts in GIMP before. They just have to be in the Font Book application (mac). The font tool is pretty finicky though.
Your thumbnails are always amazing! I personally learned how to use Photoshop all by myself when I was younger and most of the things you did I know how to do as well. So to those people who don't think they can achieve thumbnails like that, believe me! You can!
THANK YOU FOR THIS TUTORIAL! It was so amazing! Btw, I was wondering if you've made a video on how you do the editing in your videos? I think that would be an awesome video to watch :D
Thank you for doing this :D I took a photoshop class in college and loved using the software. I unfortunately have the very old photoshop 7 and my computer won't allow me to install it for some reason so I've been playing around with Gimp but I'm unfamiliar with it. I was all about photoshop in the myspace days lol. Loved this tutorial!!!
Thank you so much for this video. My thumbnails are lacking and I have had a difficult time finding other videos that showed how to use gimp in a way that was friendly for first time users. Would you be willing to show us some information on editing tutorials? That would be so awesome.
Thank you sooooooo much Priscilla!!!!! That was so useful!! Would you consider doing more graphic design related videos in the future? Or video editing related?
Your videos are really entertaining and I appreciate the hard work and personality you put into them; this video actually introduced me to GIMP and now I'm learning it. Thank You :)
Thank you! You've explained this very, very clearly and it's very informative. I've never used GIMP before, looking at its interface, I was kind of doubt it, but you definitely has changed my mind.
+The Readables thank you so much for doing this video! Sunday is normally when I upload my videos and I was just thinking to myself how I could improve my thumbnail quality. I gave it a go for my Sunday's upload and it worked out perfectly!! You've given me so many ideas for thumbnails now! Many thanks!!!
Great tutorial, especially the explanation of using paths. Concerning the fonts, I have Gimp for Windows and it automatically uses whatever fonts I have downloaded on my computer. I love your channel, btw! I want to read the Lunar Chronicles soon, and after I do, I'll watch your reviews of them. :)
My bedtime is 9:30pm and I stumbled onto your page and I gobbled it and now it is almost 1am and I am going to school and work the graveyard ahift.....I can't believe I just donate your channel my sleep time.....buuuut it was worth it! Great tutorial. You're amazing! I will be watching it again..... very informative😉 Can you please do a tutorial on how to create a branding logo using gimp or any free software? Thank you
Really useful! The way I create my thumbnails is so unprofessional (I use Microsoft Word to remove the background and add in text, but the quality isn't great), so I think I might try this out when I have time! :D
This is the best!! I'm trying to figure out how to do edits and things without photoshop (RIP old harddrive) so THANKS A MILLION for making / sharing this. SO helpful. Do you have other booktube tips of this sort to share? 10 / 10 would watch. :)
5:48 is my favorite part of this tutorial where you realize that it's not pen tool but path tool in GIMP XD that was so sweet xD I would do the same mistake as you just to be clear since I use only PS. Great vid~ and +100 to badassery for using GIMP that's very considerate of you : )
the3spoonsOFsugar I've recorded this tutorial so many times and would catch myself saying the PS name rather than the GIMP version..every. Time. OTL Thank you! :)
This is very off topic but since you like Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (Which is like my favorite stand alone book) You would probably like All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven and Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell they are AMAZING and so different from most YA books. I think you would like them!
Thanks for such a great tutorial. I use a linux machine so having a tutorial on how to use open source software is fabulous. I've always had such a hard time with the gimp so this has taught me a lot. :)
Oh and here are some links that might help with fonts. www.gimp.org/unix/fonts.html answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080901182855AARZ2vr smallbusiness.chron.com/putting-new-font-gimp-47946.html
I am as far from being an expert as you can possibly be, but when I tried using GIMP, it definitely recognized my downloaded fonts after installing them - but that was using Win7, which is probably not at all helpful to you... Anyway, for Windows users, it should work. I also happen to adore your colorful thumbnails, thanks for making the effort of finding out how to make them in a free software!
I'm that consistency person, too xD It really drives me crazy sometimes haha. Such a great tutorial, thank you!! Your thumbnails are my favorites on all of BookTube! :P
It took me around 8 hours to get used with GIMP. Oh, God, was horrible. I hate editing. xD But I had to take advantage of this tutorial as well and now that I see my thumbnail I feel so great. :D Thank you so much, Priscila. :)
That was awesome. It says a lot about you how you put a lot of effort into the creativity of your thumbnail. Now the real question is: is this going to be a real video that you made the thumbnail for? (Excluding the "tutorial" title) :p
HI. A quick question. I see you are using os Yosemite. Have you encounter problems with the shortcuts and other problems in photoshop cs6? I encounter a lot of problems unable to switch shortcuts using the keyboard a day various other glitches. Please let me know if you have experienced those problems as well, or it's just me.. :P
I use to mess around with photoshop in my late teens. It pisses me off that I lost interest in it. Now I want to try it again. Thank you. Are you sick?
This video was so helpful to me and I am so excited to learn how to do this that I wrote a blog post about it and put in a link to this video: zemeks.blogspot.com/2015/04/learning-new-things-creating-video.html (Just wanted to let you know.)
Excellent, very few other youtubers bother to do tutorials like this, especially this detailed.
Thanks, Priscilla! This is amazing. I usually don't bother with thumbnails that will require layers and swapping out the background because when I do them it's just very haphazard. thanks for doing this I love your thumbnails so I'll be definitely checking out GIMP
Your thumbnails are always amazing! I personally learned how to use Photoshop all by myself when I was younger and most of the things you did I know how to do as well. So to those people who don't think they can achieve thumbnails like that, believe me! You can!
Your thumbnails are absolutely beautiful! another great video priscilla, loved it!!
THANK YOU FOR THIS TUTORIAL! It was so amazing! Btw, I was wondering if you've made a video on how you do the editing in your videos? I think that would be an awesome video to watch :D
This was awesome! Thanks for sharing. I really love all the little details you put into your thumbnails -- they look great.
I love gimp but I've never understood the pathtool! Definitely going to use it more now! Thank you~ Your thumbnails are always so beautiful!
THIS WAS SO GREAT! Also a little overwhelming. But I'm so impressed!!! I want to try this out now.
Thank you for doing this :D I took a photoshop class in college and loved using the software. I've been using Gimp for years, and love it.
This was such a great video-- thank you so much for posting it! I've been using the tutorial for my video thumbnails ever since watching it. 😊
Your videos are really entertaining and I appreciate the hard work and personality you put into them; this video actually introduced me to GIMP and now I'm learning it. Thank You :)

+Awkward 2morrow Yay! I'm so glad this video helped :) And yes - so many possibilities with using just a few tools and techniques!

I love your attention to detail! This was really informative (:

Bespectacled BookGirl I'm glad this video helped! :D Yes, I have some book/youtube tips I can share ^__^
what happened to Ms. Priscilla? it's been 4 months since you last posted a video :(
THIS IS SO HELPFUL !! Thankyou!!
That was great and very helpful, thanks a lot :)

Can you make more tutorial videos like these with other programs? Illustrator, Indesign, etc.
Very cool and very useful for me.
Saritacheeks If it's related to books/my channel, then definitely :)
Where are you ? It's been 4 months.

Miss you so much
This was great! You should do more tutorials! :D
Thanks! This was great. I'd learned how to make thumbnails using GIMP with a lot of trial and error. This will streamline my process.
Tamara Woods That's great! That's how you really learn a new program - just trying all the tools :)
So cool!

Kim Pensieve Definitely give GIMP a go. There's a lot of tools, but that just gives you more to create what you like :)
It took me around 8 hours to get used with GIMP. Oh, God, was horrible. I hate editing. xD But I had to take advantage of this tutorial as well and now that I see my thumbnail I feel so great. :D Thank you so much, Priscila. :)

Paulina Wai I installed the new OS a month or so ago, so nothing of note has come up...yet. :O
Cool techie skills. What booktuber knows more about anything even close to graphics than you? Thanks Priscilla.
TimeAndChance Thank you! ^__^
