You know a story I love. It's ringing the changes. I always remember the samurai suit in the hall. Has for dracula this is how I'd deal with dracula. I'd drop some blood on a block of wood. And let drac sink his fangs into the block. Then ring up the pest controller to get him removed
Aw, geez. I am so sick of threats to society and innocent kids. There are ways to have thumbprint tech on guns. I know there are ways to do right by our children 😢

Happy Early Birthday Tony! The post story talk made me smile really nice to hear about your thoughts on the stories and anecdotes. Please keep doing the post story chats! P.S. I finally got to finish hearing/reading the story, and I really enjoyed it. Good choice.
Awesome story! Defeating the schemes of miscreants and n'er-do-wells.....nothing better! Fantastic story and narration. Thanks, Tony! Thr graphic during your comments is awesome. The guy, wearing a hood and with glowing eyes, reading a book amidst flames, is awesome.
I read this story years ago but you really bring it to be life ! As always, just simply perfect. I also love your ramblings at the end of the story. I look forward to them and you never disappoint me. 😉❤️
Reminded me of the hiker/ Black Forest story, not too long ago. I like the adventury ones! “I’m the man who broke the bank at Montecarlo! Tea tummuly tum tea tum!”
Thank yo so much for reading and posting this story. I LOVE Wilkie Collins -- read many of this novels. Interesting how you compared the story to Scooby-Doo and your use of ChatGPT. I've read "The Dream Woman," and enjoyed it, too.
What a story! Squishing people by bed and drowning, that should be a warning to all the gamblers😂. Not sure about Scooby Doo analogy, but naughty Emperor Nero tried this method on his Mom, and she dodged both the lead ceiling and swam to shore, according to Svetonius. Adorable French accent, Tony, you made my day 😊 Th

Great as always! Were those answers from GPT-4 (the newer version of ChatGPT)? My experience so far has been that GPT-4 is significantly less prone to making false statements. Ps, Happy birthday!
A solid anthology could be made about rooms designed for the murder of guests by criminals/gangs. "The Mystery of the Circular Chamber" by L. T. Meade & Robert Eustace (1898) is a case in point. So in its way is "A Night on the Borders Borders of the Black Forest," where travelers are robbed and murdered. Murder for purposes of theft by innkeepers and proprietors also has a place in frontier folklore from Scotland to North America, where capital accumulation was initially difficult without resort to theft.
Loved hearing you read Collins, you’d probably enjoy No Name, it has a most excellent sympathetic scoundrel in it. Thanks for all the great readings, with and without ghosts 👍
Ok, I've heard this story before, and - maybe I'm just stupid - but I don't understand the crime. The mark wins all the gambling house's money, then the owner of the house plans to kill him and steal his own money back. Wouldn't the crime be more profitable if he stole money the guy had carried in from elsewhere?
I think most of their profit came from the gamblers who lost, and killing to steal back the "bank" just prevented catastrophic losses? 🤷♀ Or this is just further evidence that cunning and intelligence are not necessarily the same thing.
@@rebeccawoolfolk5377 My guess is that gambling establishments have to let people win at least some of the time, or word gets around and they lose customers (plus, intermittent reinforcement is a powerful incentive). The killer bed is definitely crazy elaborate, though--honestly, it's entire reason for existence is probably just to write an entertaining story! 😆 Then again, people would probably have said that H. H. Holmes's murder hotel was overly elaborate, but he made it anyway.
I like pictures. But keep them dark in color. When a bright light comes on its distracting. But if they stay dull and dark it's not noticeable but if I'm sitting eating dinner or something. It's something to look at. That's the way I like it.
By the way I sleep in a four poster bed. Well I would have to have it because I love ghost stories and my house looks like a ghost movie. Another ghost story from my childhood is believe called midnight express
If I say Happy Birthday, it is four months late, but eight months early. If I say it every six months, it will eventually catch up with the right month.
Cats do *not* ruin your furniture! Get a kitten from a shelter and raise it with the puppy; they'll be great companions, and can travel together when they're older. 😊 You will stop Sleepy Grey from chewing your shoes, it's just as easy to train a kitten. Get your self a kitty for your birthday. Have a very happy day. I do leave the adds on, even though they are ridiculous! Fair do's.
That will be good for them, but still I hope that you will have your Pyewackett when the time comes. Hope you had a great day with family and friends. We are lucky, those of us whom can have other species as companions.
Rescued two tiny, terrified, starving kittens. Not only have they destroyed my vintage couch, but have broken vintage ceramics. So many things. I've had to put many beloved objects and art away. I have gorgeous lace curtains and fragile lace pieces. I will never see them again. I have a rescued dog. He was happy to snuggle with them until the male scratched his eye. They also bring their prey into house, some dead, some still alive to be tortured until they are finally put out of their terror and pain.. I've had many cats in my life who've not been so destructive, but these two are demons. However, they are so adorable when sleeping in each others embrace that all is forgiven. Until the next day
