Before their Save Your Tears live performance,, Ariana and The Weeknd hadn’t done a performance together in 7 years, since their Love Me Harder days. I’m so glad they collabed again, since they’re both super talented, and they bounce off of each other so well! If you want to get more into The Weeknd’s music, I recommend his song Wicked Games :)
Weeknd and Grande are part of the same record company. When that company wanted to increase his exposure to the public they decided to add him to a duet with Ariana who was more well known overall. The song was produced by Max Martin who is this UBER producer of hit songs. Martin and his team wrote the lyrics for the song but when they gave The Weeknd his part, he didn't like it. Thought it was too cookie-cutter cute. So he did something that never happened before with Martin: he wrote new lyrics and sent it to Martin. Martin accepted the contribution and the song went on to become a smash hit, giving The Weeknd his biggest song at that time until "Earned It" came along.
This recording also led to the unlikely friendship and further pairing of Martin and The Weeknd on other and bigger hits such as I Can't Feel My Face, Blinding Lights and Save Your Tears. Of course for that last song The Weeknd invited Ariana to participate in a remix, which essentially reunited the Love Me Harder team.
