Regarding the delay, if you update the firmware you can give the ES-1 mk1 a separate delay effect for a part and not have to rely on the global delay. The new delay replaces the wah effect and comes in handy for dub beats. I have created a short tutorial on how to update this great vintage sampler on my channel.
i like my es-1. i wish it had more memory you know, or envelopes, sample loop and start/endpoints. like the volca has. or why not more filters, resonance, etc.
I find the Volca Sample is great as a drum machine emulator: I have several "templates" set up that contain samples from classic drum machines and just load up the one I want. The MIDI implementation for the Sample is complete bonkers however, it uses a separate MIDI channel for each sample slot. While you *can* do an entire track on the Sample, the ES-1 surely would be easier to produce such a track with.
How does the external MIDI triggering work? I've never had a chance to really get mine to respond to external triggers, so I typically just end up using my ES-1 as the master clock.
I just set my clock to external and feed the midi clock to it... I didn't seem to have any issues. The ES, EA and ER-1 are all design to sync to each other making them all excellent companions.
I just got one of these and it’s just acting purely mental. I can’t get even get started because it’s either 300bpm or makes no sound despite lights flashing everywhere. I don’t even know where to start without a reset function. Any advice?
i got one of those, and today i want to buy a SD CARD for it, do you have any advice? i'll appreciate so much your recommendation. Grettings from Mexico.

I wasn't aware of that - what's the link?

I've had mine since 2002 and I only just learned this today! Thank you
It’s funny but this retro review is now retro itself.
My mk1 died a little while ago and I bought a mk2 and still use it all the time. Great units 👍😎
Agreed - I'd love to get the sx1 and the electribe2s and compare all 3... but budgets don't allow that kind of thing :P

Good review! I've got many videos of this drum machine!!
Thanks - I'll have a look :)

I have mine midi synced to my 404 with the ES1 as the master BUT the fx on EITHER device seems to work when doing so ? 🤔 .. help?
Did you get Japanese electribes? What did you do in terms of power supply?

Grettings from Mexico.
It needs a SmartMedia Card no bigger than 64mb.
If you're importing samples from computer to smartmedia card they need to be WAV at 16bit and 32kHz, and the sample names have to be a 2 digit number
It's worth to buy this unit today ?
I still like and use mine :) it's a simple but effective tool - but I wouldn't pay huge amounts for it.
tom hardy makes music too huh. cool
Whispering and mumbling, speak up man!
