I will forever stand by the notion that Luke Goss is grossly underrated as an action-based, dramatic actor. His chops as Nomak were great but his role as the elf prince in Hellboy II is nothing short of classic. He needs to be brought into the MCU or DC or John Wick universes. Something. He deserves more than his B movie status.

Criminally underappreciated. It's a Marvel superhero movie made by Guillermo Del Toro with Ip Man and Hellboy in it and it's every bit as cool as that sounds like it should be. It's like a gift to fandom that far too much of fandom doesn't know about.

I was in film school when this came out and believe me, the movies that came out in the early 2000’s that changed everything were, The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious. Movie theaters were begging people to not try the stunts at home. I still see people today trying to drift and crashing.

This is a badass Sequel from visionary filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro. Originally, Morbius was going to be the main villain in the film, but it was changed to the Reapers instead. The fight scenes are CGI which is impressive, as people complain that the fight scenes look like a video game.

On this rewatch, I didn't mind the CGI fight scenes. It allowed them to meet their vision for the fight scenes. On the other hand, it really made the middle part of the movie stand out in a bad way, especially the sewer sequence. It made the Bloodpack seem like seem like normal humans, instead of these elite trained superhuman vampires that can leap several feet in the area and cling to walls, and know martial arts. All they did was walk/run around and shoot.

John’s range of horrified expressions stands on its own. Roxy’s comments are pure gold. The actor playing Priest is Tony Curran a fantastic character actor who was in 3 eps of SoA which is where you might know him from but he was also outstanding as one of the main characters of the surprisingly good (especially since it was tied to a live MMO at the time and the game could influence the show) Defiance on Syfy

Blade 2 is definitely my fave of the series, but coming back to this now, I can see a lot of elements that Del Toro carried over to his vampire series The Strain (another great show). The vampire design is nothing short of awesome and terrifying. This does mostly stand up even today.

Wesley Snipes always did the character Blade Justice. I haven't seen this movie in years glad that you two liked it. I saw all three, and the third one isn't that bad, as people say. It is humor in it with Ryan Renalds and Jessica Beil. I like that one, too.

The "nipple head" diss from Whistler is because Perlman's character had a bald head with the small bomb device blade put there so it looked like a nipple so his head was basically a talking boob with shades.

This is why I really don't want them to remake Blade for the new MCU. If they can't rise to the level of Blade 1 and 2, then why even bother? And I think I remember hearing Wesley got a pretty bad knee injury doing one of the fight scenes and they had to shut the production down for a while. Anyway, great review and can't wait to see whether or not you guys like all the changes that occur in Blade 3. --- All these years and I never realized this...Blade 1 ends in Russia and when he rescues Whistler, he says he began looking for him him in Moscow.-- -

Vampires in this world don't want to take over....they've already taken over. In fact it was stated in the first movie that they have lived this way for thousands of years, just under the radar, into every aspect of human existence, and in some way having a symbiotic balance to it all.
