FWIW something that worked for me during the worst life storms was saying to myself ‘in this moment I am safe’ or end with OK. Another is ‘evevn if it’s not OK it will be OK.’ Sml but with some focused breathing and closed eyes it helped. Also if needed find a bathroom and sit for few min alone to do them. With time you can do it in crowded areas. When we get through tougher times or memories it leaves us stronger and with more self respect and awareness. Life is hard and you’re not alone by far.✌️
Someone told me to get a quartz face roller. Rolling my face and neck is so relaxing. I started putting it in the freezer and it's even better. I try every little trick or tip to release anxiety and stress. You never know what will work for you and there's nothing to lose. Thank you for these. Glad I found your channel.
Good for your face/skin too so double benefit
If you don't like cold showers, another great option is infrared sauna's, the warmth is so comforting.
😀
12:00- Also, breathing techniques such as Wim Hof style breathwork has been one of the most healing modalities for happiness, health, and strength for me.
Ooga booga comment if Ive everseen one
@@jojowisa1270 May you be in happiness and peace :)
I didn't get on with the Wim Hof breath - not because it wasn't effective, but because the sensation of activating the stress response was not something I could push myself to do every day - despite the benefits I felt after. Years of being in a severely hypervigilant state led me towards more gentle methods. The cold showers, however... I started them again a couple of weeks ago, starting with hot water and then turning it to cold. Now I look forward to having a full shower starting with cold. It's the weirdest thing. Initially I had to mentally prepare for it, then realised the sensation was exactly the same as the excitement of being dared to run under a waterfall when travelling, and so I began to dare myself and laugh in anticipation of my response. But I agree, Wim Hof's techniques are very transformative!

You need help.
THANK YOU, DR. SNIPES! I think you may have guided me to finding my healing. After decades of therapy, where CBT helped me make rational decisions, I've still experienced physical symptoms that I've described to people "It's like my body is in permanent lock down, it's ALWAYS wired, even when I'm outwardly relaxed and happy. Could the childhood trauma of 60 years ago still be in my body?" And then I saw your title, and that is the first time that I've ever even had someone validate the possibility of chronic embodied trauma. I look forward to watching your videos, and look forward to getting clues that might help find an appropriate professional I can directly work with.
I would wager that to find trauma, one needs only to look at those of us with disease, disorders, and chronic pain, and dig a little. 😊
Awesome video. I shake sometimes lately and wonder why. I'm under a lot of stress lately. Both my husband and i lost our jobs from the pandemic. My brother and father in law died from covid. I try to be positive. Thank you. God bless you.
Bless you as well. Thanks for watching! Wishing you peace, health, and, happiness.
@@DocSnipes thank you. Love you.
It is a traumatic event for you hun.
I am the same for the past year. Went to emergency rooms countless times.
I just started a treatment for this panic/anxiety and hopefully I am recovering because it’s been hell.

SO many great ideas here COMBINED with the “why do it”. For those of us who need to know why it works and how it works, this video was pure gold.
Thanks for watching!
Just stumbled across you. Keep doing what you do!! I wasn't taught any of this. I have no doubt you are going to be the one who actually helps me. I have lived a very traumatic life. My body now handles my fear and worries by attacking itself in odd and strange ways. No way any doctor can explain. I have learned my body does this when I'm under stress from my traumas. I have done everything to help myself but I havnt learned how to release, realize or relax. I'm going to watch you, I know your going to make a difference in my life. ♥

Thank you for sharing your own personal experience with trauma and how you’ve managed it. Many lecturers can come across as a tad condescending and paternalistic but you’ve detailed some very helpful and empowering strategies here.
People might also find it useful to look at the enteric nervous system and how this relates to trauma-related anxiety. It’s essentially a second brain in the gut. See also gut-brain axis.
Totally agree with your advice:
i) to do yoga. Been doing Iyengar for years and it works. Journaling might also be useful for some people as it’s an easy way to review your progress and identify who your triggers are.
ii) definitely yes to finding opportunities to laugh/sing if at all possible. That might well sound impossible for some who find themselves “locked-in” to ruminations about their traumatic event/incident. Everyone is different but it’s vital to give yourself a break even if it’s only momentarily.
I appreciate you watching and sharing
Interesting. I have found practicing Qi Gong to be helpful. I may start exploring yoga. I also sing, and play music - during a time of deep grief, I found playing music deeply therapeutic. I am addicted to humour, a good laugh at some impromptu joke does wonders. ,
Great Videos Doc Snipes. Asa 72 YO, Male, now retired, I have been anxious person for as long as I can remember. Starting with nail biting at age 7 or so, which evolved into anticipatory anxiety (like looking at my watch as e approached the end of the school day - in the 3rd Grade), and then evolved into full blown Panic/Anxiety Attacks circa 1986 (after the birth of our second child). A few years before (while my wife was pregnant with our first child in 1982) I started to experience "heart Palpitations" / Stomach issues of Burping . etc.. After a series of tests were done including a GI series of the gut, nothing negative was found. When I asked my doctor - "What's the Story, Doc? He responded "Aren't you the fellow buying a house? . I said, No Doc, my wife is Pregnant!. he said.....That's Your problem !! Meaning, It's Your Nerves affecting your Stomach / Heart. He didn't talk about the Vagus Nerve. But the recent surfacing of the vast importance of the Vagus Nerve is fascinating and allows me to understand what is happening. I have had "traumas" in my childhood, too numerous to mention / dicuss here, but watcjhing this and other Psych vidoes helps me to more fully understand the impact of those traumas on my Well Being via the Vagus Nerve!
I am sorry you had traumas in your childhood and I glad my videos are helping you. Thank you so much for sharing and for watching my videos
So grateful you're addressing this topic so thoroughly . Please consider touching on the relationship to chronic illness
I’m really enjoying your videos on cptsd. You are a wonder teacher. Just listening to you offers hope and calms me down. Thank You!!
Wonderful.
This was so good! I learned a lot of these techniques and incorporated them very effectively for decades but oh my my my how I need them now. Thanks a MILLION for the reminder! You have helped me on my healing journey.
I really like how you summed up what we were learning about at the end. When teachers leave something open-ended, I often don't get what they are talking about to bring everything together. I understand what people are saying by what they say afterward because it brings together a collection of thoughts into a meeting of the minds that is satisfying and becomes a positive learning experience. I get the feeling that the teacher is intending to empower me with the experience and I relax and am able to enjoy the subject matter. Bad teacher move too fast and do not care about my struggle. But that is not you! Instead you are a good role model. It is like the good mother who does back and forth with a small child who enjoys the interaction. I forget what that is but you probably know a lot more about that than I do. I could also read parenting books about it. Adults still want to do that as learning is very much of an interaction with a caring attachment figure who sees and responds to you as a person.
New to Doc Snipes' channel. So grateful to have found you. This is helpful to so many people.
So glad! Thanks for watching.
What a treasure of a toolbox you shared with us! Thank you. I really can't thank you enough. Already I feel calmer - simply from learning these tools. My future looks brighter because I don't have to worry about triggers and the sense of helplessness they can elicit. Also, I don't have to worry so much about people who can't afford or in any way access a good therapist, because
anyone with internet (which, of course, is not everyone,) can watch your videos. Fortunately, I have a truly awesome therapist even though I'm a low income person. But I know my case is more an exception than the rule. God bless you!

@@DocSnipes Thank you, Dr Snipes! To answer your question about what I plan to do first to release trauma - I felt wonderfully comforted by massaging my tragi and behind my ears. Also, humming and singing are a natural way for me to release trauma, since I already really enjoy those activities, just for the love of music. I've used all of those tools since I watched your video and they work well for me to help me release the tightness and constriction I sometimes feel from trauma. I plan to keep using these tools and explore others from your videos. Thank you for sharing so much wisdom and know-how!

Hello Dr! Just saying thanks! You're giving practical advice and priceless information!!!
Thank you so much for your support.
Thanks Doc Snipes very helpful video and tips. Your a such a great visual supportive presenter. Thanks again.
Thank you so much, Doctor Snipes, learning about the vagus nerve and the vagal tone is the piece I needed to learn about without knowing I needed it. I have watched the series of three videos and I have learned enough to deal with my physical tensions, with the way I respond to stressful situations at home and in general, to learn to reprogram my nervous system in order to live the quiet life I have always dreamt of. Thank you so much for making this information readily available. May life bless you and your family for generations to come. Much love!
Thanks for watching. 😀
Thank you for your 3 part series on the vagus nerve and its role in anxiety and stress. I had been using many of the techniques you suggest and they have been very helpful. Thankfully, I am no longer in the situations that caused my anxiety issues and my lifestyle is generally very peaceful and I am healthy. But I still have occasional flashbacks or experience generalized anxiety - like fear of experiencing pain/anxiety as opposed to actually experiencing it. So, that is where your information has helped me. Now I understand precisely why these techniques are important and helpful with past stressors and reprogramming my responses.
I am very grateful🙏🏼
Looking foreward to hearing you, Doc Snipes.🌹🙏❤️

Too much responsibility stresses me out! I can see that now. I maybe could get back into where I was as a child (I have some very good memories) and not have to save the world, just enjoy myself and learn what I like to learn with someone helping me. I can let them worry about everything else, or let it take care of itself, knowing (somehow) it will take care of itself..

Doc wishing you and everyone a wonderful, peaceful and safe weekend!
Same to you!
This is wonderful how the Most ahigh gave us little idiosyncrasies that we can do that promote wellbeing and healing. Who would have thunk it that yawning, and smiling and cold showers and singing, humming and things like that would cause a positive reaction to the vagus nerve that is needed for health and well-being. I whistle, I sing and I hum. As a massage therapist I am already aware of how massage therapy stimulates the vagus nerve for overall wellbeing, but these other things are new to me. I had nobodea that doing these little things throughout my life since childhood were contributing to my trauma healing!
Thank you so much for watching. What is your favorite tip from the video?
@@DocSnipes Of course my favorite tip is anything massage related😊😊. A fade and scalp massage can be verrrrryyyy relaxing. When you do a face massage a specific way you can even access and stimulate the lymphatic system. Face massages can put you to sleep. I think anyone suffering from any kind of trauma should get a massage once a month as just one resource to use to start untrapping trauma in your physical body. The only other alternative is deep stretching. Oh another great addition is having a water fountain in the bedroom or in the house. The sound of running water over the rocks is very peaceful and soothing. You are right that no one thing is the magic bullet, especially because by nature humans need variety because of complacency, which stunts any change or growth.

Doc Snipes, I have been monitoring heart rate dip during sleep, that is some how connected to vagus nerve and circadian rhythm. It occurs for about 20 minutes for me between 5am and 6:30am. Hi Dr. Snipe. Thanks for your great videos. What neurologic conditions might render the vagal tone exercises less effective?
I think that is probably a question for your personal medical doctor. Thanks for watching.
@@DocSnipes was only asking because you sat in this video certain neurological conditions might effect benefit of these exercises. Were you thinking of something specific or generalizing?
Very helpful video, Dr Snipes! I'm currently in DBT but haven't as of yet anyway, learned or have been told of these techniques to calm the vagus nerve. I will definitely be implementing several of these. Oh, I grind my teeth too and awaiting my night guard ☺️
The night guard is a God send. When I forget mine I have tooth and jaw pain and a "stuffy ear" the whole next day
What if you have had a right recurrent nerve cut with laryngeal paralysis ? Is it your feeling this would help laryngeal spasm?

Thank you so much. One question, I can barely even lightly touch my tragus, it's extremely painful. It's been that way for over a year now. No doctor seems to know why. Could be coming from jaw joint? Does anyone else out there have this problem? Wishing everyone a calm and happy vagus nerve!
SO, normally my husband would never go to anyone that didn't have a true drs. License or title and would insist that the professionals rendering services must accept Insurance. However after 2 years of suffering with intense neck pain and dizziness, and trying "everything" which included a series of shots, chiropractic visits and even 2 small surgeries, he sought the help of a kinesologist. She worked with muscles , which support bones and he felt relief after the first visit! He followed up with 2 more visits and is virtually pain free currently. Don't be afraid to stop outside of your comfort area as he did through ultimate desperation. Good luck! 👍
