I did feel that frustration when I first tried & as I mentioned, my first 3 dolls eyes were quite messy but then I got the hang of it, but I still mess up sometimes, especially if i'm trying out a new style. I too have broken many needles, that's why I started using the longer, thicker types. I was wondering what yarn you use for the body because I found that when I use the acrylic yarns it's a little tougher to poke the needle through & land where I would like it to. I also found that I need to use pliers more often with the acrylic yarns. I wish you luck for your next doll 😇

I use the thinner thread for the outline only. The rest is standard thickness of embroidery thread or even the 4ply 100% cotton yarn/thread (especially for these larger size eyes). For some of my custom dolls I go back & fill in the un-even parts with thinner thread (not in this video) and it creates smoother looking lines. I will be making a video tutorial of this method when I finish with the Bella clothes. 😇

@@joannegee1650 For the skin colour, one skein of the 8ply thickness (worsted weight would be the closest) will be enough for a couple of dolls. But if you choose to use a light-weight yarn (4ply) then you will need 2 skeins of the same colour (using both strands together at the same time, to create the 8ply thickness). I hope that makes sense. And feel free to ask as many questions as you like as it's also helpful for others reading the comments.😇
Did you practice awhile before doing on doll....its so disappointing to do the doll the mess up the eyes....which i just did...it just came to me that maybe I need to practice on something else....I thought I was going to be as good as you just because I watched....Lol...not so....😊
My first 3 dolls were a little messy looking (I've re-done them since then) But I got the hang of it by my 4th doll . I suggest that you crochet up to the neck & then give the eyes a go. And remember, you can pull out the stitching & start again. To be honest, I wasn't that happy with this particular doll's eyes as I tried to make them too big, but it took me a long time to make the recording, so I thought I'd share what I did. I will be recording another set of eyes for the Bella Doll soon and explain what I'm doing, which might make it a little easier. It's great that you gave it a go, and with a little patience & practice, You Will be happy with your own work. Thanks so much for watching 😇
