What do you mean interest is waning?!?! I THRIVE on this type of music!! Don't let it die!
hes talking about how the mainstream media doesnt promote much of this type of music
Pretty sure he is sick of answering the question about the name change, it happened, it was dealt with, get over it.
Can't wait for the new album Boys

Everything said in the first minute of this video is so true. A passion for Rock in roll in north america IS waining and I think it's because rock' n' roll used to be an outlet for people who were angry about certain things or about the law or not being able to do something. America itself, has such liberal laws now, almost everything is legal. It used to be if teens were angry about stuff, they could play an instrument or be in a band write song lyrics about their anger. Now, there's a prescription drug for anger and no more motivation to make good music or explore new sound combinations.
this is way off. trump has reignited the populist right and even a far-right contingency is experiencing a surge of popularity in the US (and indeed all over the world; just look at bolsonaro in brazil). politics have gradually shifted further and further to the right under the global project of neoliberalism over the last 40-50 years, and has arguably not been so far to the right since before the first world war. in fact, the political and economic landscape is very similar to the early 20th century: economic stagnation for the working class, massive inequality, sweeping liberalization policies and lack of social safety nets, and an elite political class totally disconnected from the struggles of everyday working class life...
rock music is waning, imo, for a few reasons:
1) there has not been an interesting or innovative new variant of rock music in the mainstream since the mid 2000s (when we had pop punk, emo, and the post-punk revival bands dominating the mainstream). all of the innovative new trends have been in underground/niche music since then (deathcore, djent, noise rock, the recent modern metallic hardcore bands like code orange, the new wave of modern post-punk bands [some of which matt even mentioned in this video], etc) and don't have the same mainstream accessibility that other rock subgenres did.
2) these days, the new and innovative sounds are coming primarily out of electronic music and hip-hop. sample and computer based music has totally changed the musical landscape. kids aren't picking up guitars and dinking around with pedal boards in their bedroom anymore, they're downloading ableton or FLstudio and digging for samples.
3) trap/mumble rap is the "dangerous" music of the time. rock music isn't scary or dangerous anymore (except in the case of extreme metal/punk subgenres, but again, those don't really have much mainstream appeal). face tattoos and prescription drugs are what's cool and dangerous with the kids these days. guitars are for old fogies. old fogies hate mumble rap. it's a generational thing i think. who knows.
this don't gotta be politics man
Auch wenn ich fließend Englisch kann, gibts für "sowas" ein verdientes #DISSLIKE ...
