Oooohhhhhh my gosh when you got to the part about Riviera my heart DROPPED. I don't know what I would have done in your situation. Congrats on being so cool, calm, and collected. But also yay for maths geeks, I'm totally right there with you with spreadsheets and being crazy prepared. And while the situation that occurred is crazy unfortunate at least you had a solid backup plan and it worked out thanks to your hard work!
Oh believe me I was holding back the tears when they left the room haha I did a separate video where I actually pulled out my spreadsheet, I just LOVE a good spreadsheet haha Yes exactly I think it makes a lot of sense to go into these things extra prepared! Thanks so much for watching lovely x

I think THIS is quite a good one, too!! So few people consider the second part - how many points per night - and I am so proud of you and Rachel for figuring that part out (but of course you did because #math)

Great video Karen - it’s great to hear as many U.K. folks talking about their DVC experiences! A good question I found difficult to get info on was around the room options - differences between studio, 1 beds etc. We’re a family of 5 and taking into account the sort of room we may need to use points for also comes into consideration we believe?

Great vlog. We did the whole tour 2017 and wasnt right time for us. But more i hear about it , its making me think again. I wondered which sites you said you looked at re pricing etc.

Thank you so much, oh you are DVC members too? Congratulations! I think there is some important information about DVC as a whole that you don't really get from the presentations as they are normally focused on the resorts they are selling.
Karen Bee Yes, we own at Copper Creek. Didn’t know we could have had an option to buys somewhere else. Like you said, some resorts are more expensive per point and take more points to purchase, and Copper Creek is one of them. We would have like to buy at Animal
kingdom but maybe next time 😉

Great video Karen, really informative, makes us want to invest in DVC as well but I just don't think we can afford the costs of it all which sucks but maybe one time in the future! Looks like it worked out in the end getting AK instead though!
It's a big financial commitment so you're right to have a good think about it and decide if it works for you or not. I've got another video coming this week which does a lot of 'math' behind it!

We have Bay Lake, but I usually can book OKW at 7mths. You are very well educated about DVC, but I think they really messed up trying to give you Riviera!

crazy to watch this video in 2022 and know that about a month after you made this video all the Covid craziness started... did you even get to go to Disney in 2020 or 2021?

Yes I've heard that is possible, I think perhaps it's not possible from Ireland, something to do with their licence.
Would you say buyimg direct with disney is better than resale?? Trying 2 make decision direct or resale it will be finance but try 2 pay it off quick
When you were renting points before signing up, which site were you using? Im hoping to take parents next year for their first visit and would love to try out DVC room
I've actually used a few different sites, I've rented with Daves DVC Store, DVC Rental Store and I also found a guy on the Disboards that ran his own small business. I've always had positive experiences, I would say that I didn't like with Daves that you had to pay a deposit before knowing if they had the points you needed thus tying your money up. I will talk about renting in more detail as part of this series so hopefully that helps!
Did you have to pay regular price for AKL or did they give you money off/extra points/extra compensation regarding the buy price since you were expecting to pay less with OKW?
We paid the regular price, they compensated us with gift cards for the issues we had so we paid more than originally planned.
How did you find out how much Disney charges per point for the all the different older DVC resorts? We talked to someone a couple of years ago & im sure he quoted the same as the newer resorts.
When I contacted Disney in advance they sent me the current prices and they do vary by resort. In my next video I will go through the pricing of each resort :)
Interested to DVC. What concessions did you get with CV re annual maintenance fees? You can bank weeks to another year right?
None that I'm aware yet on annual dues however we may see that in next year's fees. The thing with annual dues is that the money has to be spend on the property, so if there is money left over as less maintenance was required that may just go towards refurbishment or something similar. Yes we can bank in future years so for my resale contract I banked the entire first year so now for next year (i.e. until Feb 2022) I have two years of points I can use and I can still bank half of that into the year after.. more than happy to answer any more questions you have!
How far in advance did you get in contact for them to secure the contract for you? I've planned to do the same but not going until 2021 so they have told me to get back in touch nearer the time.
I got in touch about a month ahead of my trip, I'm sure around 2-3 months before would be OK too.. I guess it depends on how in demand the resort is that you're looking for.. I've also been informed that you can sign up via post from the UK if that's where you're applying from..
You can sign up via mail from the UK, you don’t need to be in the US. My sister used my guide and bought from the UK 🇬🇧 👍🏼
