The reason why LuLuLemon is SO popular - they *stay up*. You can bend down, they stay up. You can squat down, they stay up. You can be fast, move, etc. You can bend, and your butt crack doesn't hang-out. You're not constantly pulling-up your pants. Your pants stay where they're supposed to, and you can focus on what you're supposed to focus on - instead of your pants. They're no think pants.
I didn't have this experience until Lulu started making higher waisted leggings. Until then I was always pulling them up so I didn't flash anyone behind me in class. Maybe for running this is true but not for me in yoga and strength training classes.
I have 4 pairs and they are my absolute favorite and I haven’t, and may never, wear any other shorts. I am in love with them! I wear black jeans but other than that, I am wearing my shorts everyday!
Even those lululemon reusable bags were status symbols, all the rich girls brought their lunches in them while the rest of us plebs used green grocery bags 🙃
I don't think Lululemon promotes fitness, so much as a LOOK of fitness. People were exercising and leading healthy lives before everyone started wearing exercise clothes 24/7. People like these clothes because it's comfortable and a " no brainer" way of putting a "look" together. I think things are changing though, as Lululemon is associated with a certain older demographic. I don't see GenZ and younger wanting to wear this label to represent their ethos. editing this comment after 5 months of endless replies: So what I have observed from the endless comments on this matter, is it seems very specific to the crew you are hanging around. While in my tiny little world, it appears only a certain older demographic wear this brand, matching from head to toe, only to walk their dogs in or get groceries or to go to their private Pilates session. It seems from these comments that this brand has an appeal to every age group all over everywhere. So some may be in a group that looks down their noses at this brand for reasons, others of another group seem to love it for their own reasons. I do stand by the idea that they promote a look of fitness, more than fitness itself. But I think that is a product of the current and very lasting craze of athletic wear as everyday wear.
As a gym-goer of a very large gym (Life Time), I can tell you this is a cross generation phenomenon. So many people wearing their stuff (myself included)
@@Ben-Carr Gen z is 10-25 year olds. In the Vancouver area anyway, they are not wearing Lululemon as it is a brand associated with the olds, like Millennials, GenX and Boomers too. GenZ around here, seem to prefer athletic brands and won't mix the brands in their "drip". Like head to toe Addidas, Champion, Converse or Puma, never wear Nikes with Reebok socks, that kind of thing. Perhaps it is just specific to my area and community (one in the Greater Vancouver Regional District) , but here it is not for the "kids" (GenZ 10-25), but for retired active people and some GenX and Millennials. Maybe that has to do with the brand being here so long (originated here) and the kids, teens, young adults don't want to wear the brands their parents are wearing.
I've noticed that most of my fitness friends have gravitated towards Girlfriend Collective and Arcteryx for their workout gear. For reference, I live on the west coast and am 25
I currently work at lululemon and have been there for the last 8 months and I will say a lot has changed. Yes they give use a stipend to workout each month, which is fantastic. But no one cares if you actually work out. I’ve never considered myself that girl but my favorite part of working at lululemon is actually my coworkers. They are just such wonderful kind individuals, I’ve never worked in an environment where I feel so welcomed to be myself which is saying a lot. They give out great benefits if you’re full time. However… 70% of the staff is part time and don’t receive any of that. The company takes a lot less feedback from us which I wasn’t expecting but we have a lot a lot of freedom to address issues which is amazing. I could go into an entire deep dive into my mixed feeling about their sustainability… however, I think it’s absolutely amazing we hem and repair clothes for free. I’ve always gravitated towards the brand bc of how well it fits my body and after 8 years of wearing the brand my feelings haven’t changed. But I started to wear the brand bc that’s what the other rich girls at my school wore. So I was absolutely influenced by them. But the clothes last unbelievable long and look great after so so much wear. But I feel like the brand keeps taking 2 steps forward and 1 step back. So 1) they released a contour line a week ago that’s designed for women with larger hips but a smaller waist. I’ve been looking for something like this for years. However, they didn’t release an extended size range. Only went to size 14 which is a XXL, when most leggings go to size 20 or 5XL. But I do understand… the larger sizes haven’t been selling well in my store but this was a really really big missed opportunity on the brand fault. That is absolutely a major target market they completely ignored which I don’t understand. If it’s not selling well in store just do more of an online exclusive and just carry less in the store. I just don’t get it. 2) They keep styles around for years which really helps with reselling the product and helps to reduce over consumption. But products do sell out extremely fast when in hot demand and while the company does everything it can to meet and exceed demand it definitely struggles. But the way people stalk the 3pm releases on Tuesday and the markdowns Thursday morning is unhealthy. But… the resell market for lulu is fantastic bc the styles stick around which I think is really important. 3) On earth day they are rolling out the like new program across the US which is great. You’ll be able to resell gently used items and recycle items at the end of its life cycle. However… the profits made here (which they will pay you $10 for the leggings and resell it for $79. So that’s a $70 profit right there) is supposed to go to “sustainability initiatives”. However… each item shipped to the store is individually wrapped in plastic in a cardboard box. The cardboard is recycled but the plastic goes into the trash. It’s unbelievable wasteful and I see no sustainability practices being implemented in the store. Or we get items shipped to the store and immediately the next day we are shipping it out to customers across the country if it’s a hot item. But… we do sell returns and only damage items out as a last resort. But a lot of it is show-ative sustainability. But I do appreciate they are trying to use vegan leather made from mushrooms. But that’s only in 2 products as of now and they are extremely expensive. They also have not implemented any recycled polyester into their mostly polyester based clothes. A 48 billion dollar company should be able to use bio plastics in their shipping (or just stick to cardboard) and use more recycled materials. I could go on forever. I’m a psychology and an environmental policy major. I took this job to better understand the fashion industry. I could also write an entire rant on girlfriend collective about the good and the bad. If you do a follow up video I would love to give my input. I’m extremely passionate about this issue and could write a 30 page thesis on it. The most sustainable thing you can do is buy a product that you love, that fits you well, and be repaired and mended to fit your body and you can easily resell if it no longer works for you or recycle when it reaches the end. I love how the brand stands behind their products but there are a lot of positives and negatives about the brand. Many of the problems you mentioned no longer are apart of the company but so many others still stand. My IG is @marymotch11
I tell woman to look at the WMTM all the time because 14-20 is always on sale or available. I'm still arguing with people who think they only service like a size 2. I wear 6/8 in bottoms and 10/12 in tops, I find that it's actually easier for me to just shop at Lululemon. Brands like ALO or Free People view me as an XL or don't even have my size, gymshark has some items like that too. I've never had a problem with how I've been treated in multiple stores, but I hear people are afraid to even look around because of how they're convinced they'll be treated. I think the stigma has been so negative for so long that people think you need to be "that girl" to shop there. It's the only brand that hasn't had me crying in the dressing room.
Selling anything isn't sustainable, there are just ways to make the damages they create less bad. Brands claiming sustainability is purely a marketing scheme, as environmental damage is inevitable in the manufacturing and shipping process. It's called greenwashing these days. I honestly wouldn't praise a company because the low level employees treat the other low level employees well. And you have to wonder if you're being treated well maybe for some other reason. Maybe they only hire conventionally attractive people, and which the reality is that they receive preferential treatment from employers and society at large. At the end of the day a brand doesn't care about you, at least not more than profit, and thus standing up for one is foolish. Part of how corporations manipulate you is to make it seem like they care about you or something you care about/are interested in.
Lululemon fits my build perfectly. I have no problem with spending more money on a product that fits me so well and is so comfortable and has a great product return policy if its defected. You also have to understand there's people who do not workout that will buy Lululemon because it's trendy/popular within their friend groups... not their problem as a business. I have Lululemon clothing from 2015 that I still wear and held up like it's brand new to this day. Also, the men's ABC pants are a game changer!
So the problem with Lululemon is that the company managed to understand its clientele's desires so perfectly that it made them uncomfortable to hear it out loud.
Totally. The video makes a big deal out of the company promoting health "too much" and acting as if marketing is exploitive, but said nothing about the worst sin of charging $118 for a pair of yoga pants.
@@kmm2442 basically yeah. It seems that from Future Proof's point of view, LuluLemon's biggest sin is that it understands its marketbase too well, and figured out how to meet their needs too perfectly
@@kmm2442 talking about the way society conditions women to view themselves to need products like this, then makes it come out of the mouths of other women so we think we DECIDED we wanted this.
If you do another video on LuLu Lemon I would love to see a deep dive into their “sustainable” practices. I haven’t bought from them in many years but I was talking to a friend at the gym the other day and they talked about how you can take your items from lululemon into the store for free repairs. I am curious about this and if they really are encouraging long-lasting items that can be repaired instead of replaced (something I know you believe in!!)
"sustainable" practices is just marketing promoted by for profit organizations like bluesign, etc. I would like the heavily marketed "sustainable" textile companies to actually be honest about how sustainable is the marketed sustainable hype.
I just remember the scandal where Lululemon yoga pants were deemed "unacceptably see-through," and they claimed "it's not our fault; it's the customer stuffing their fat asses into tights that don't fit." I like see-through yoga pants; I also like horrible public-facing corporate statements.
I used to go to school with Chips son and they really infiltrated our school with lulu-girls. His son even gave free lulu's out to his friends and girlfriends. It was very culty and if you didn't wear Lululemon, Aritzia, or TNA you didn't matter.
Wooooow ! Oh my god ! Sooo glad I got out of the lower mainland when I did …. I used to live in chilliwack, and my old friends from there are always talking about the rich kids going to chochella , all that shit we think it’s usually only for celebs …. Bought from their parents money, used to make their Petra believe they are the most popular , and y’all should want to do everything yo be like them ….. it’s all routed from insecure parents who got rich somehow, and now truly believe and trust their shady views and feelings are valid because their money successful…. But high schools hard enough without those kind of rich kids anyways …. Sounds like literal hell honestly …. Also Assuming this is in Vancouver
Surprised that this video and the comments don’t mention Wilson’s reason why he named the company Lululemon. He was inspired by a Japanese brand called “Homeless” and thought that the success of this brand derived from the “exotic” nature of the brand name containing a sound that didn’t exist in the Japanese language (the letter L). As a challenge, he created a name for his brand with as many L’s as he could fit in & thought it was funny watching Japanese people try to pronounce it.
omg yeah i honestly also thought that he was gonna bring up the origin of the lululemon name seeing that he brought up the reason why chip wanted to create the pants lmao
Oh wow. That above all else is a bad taste. The fit the fit the fit is everything, as a tall girl who needs to move and has enough body-issues as it is without clothing malfunctioning being one. But yeah sadly I’m going to have to start Looking aroumd
@@quelquun2018 He thought it would be funny to hear Japanese people try to pronounce a company name that included three Ls. So part of the reason of the name of the company is based on making fun of the accent of a group of people.
@@jaibinmathew1323 no, that's not true. He created the name Lululemon because in Japan, the letter L doesn't really exist, but it is highly sought out in the country, so he knew that if the brand flopped, he could sell in Japan (where he was living at the time).
@@MarriedWithPizza lol you're both kind of right. The quote from Wilson is as follows "The reason the Japanese liked [my former skateboard brand, ‘Homeless’] was because it had an L in it and a Japanese marketing firm wouldn’t come up with a brand name with an L in it. L is not in their vocabulary. It’s a tough pronunciation for them. So I thought, next time I have a company, I’ll make a name with three Ls and see if I can get three times the money. It’s kind of exotic for them. I was playing with Ls and I came up with Lululemon. It’s funny to watch them try to say it." It's not so much brands with the letter L are highly sought after but that a local Japanese person wouldn't necessarily come up with a name with L in it. I'm assuming this is at the time, because now there are brands with l's in it in Japan (Potvel, Nulabel, Kapital, Uniqlo, Falken, Maxell, Olympus, Lawson, Pilot, Playstation, Studio Ghibli etc.). Either way the quote and the meaning behind the name smacks of ignorance and racism.
Your lighting setup has fried my brain, you spent 13 minutes taking about tightpants while I spent 13 minutes trying to figure out all the light sources. You literally made it so subtle, its perfect
I don't know if it would make sense for this channell but I'd love even a low key review on Levi&Leah abour Girlfriend Collective, which is a sustainable brand born in hindsight of the athleisure craze seeded in Lululemon
I was thinking that with Knix too. They are a Canadian brand who do work out clothes but started with underwear. They are female run and pretty diverse in size and colour.
I own Lululemon clothing and I love it... but I keep in mind the fact that a good percentage of what you pay for their insane prices is the little logo attached to the garments. Honestly, there are brands far cheaper and have great quality, design and fit.
please tell me which one, because im looking for it and I don't seem to find other clothes with the fabric close to lululemon, gymshark and underamour does not feel and as good as those lululemon leggins, and those t shirt are crazt confy too. I'm looking for cheaper brand but I don't find same quality cheaper price and I don't care about logos I rather when they have no logo on it.
@@gsuandre5579 of course!! Hope you like them ❤️ the fabric won’t be as soft as an align of course, but they’re still soft and they’re my go to for workouts. I personally really enjoy the ellyn leggings and the serenity shorts. Let me know what you think :) (Oh, and their Daily T-shirt is suuuper comfy and soft! Highly recommended too)
This view is probably only relavent in certain areas around the world where Lululemon has broken the market. We definitely don't perceive the brand this way in Australia. There is a wide variance of sportswear in the yoga and gyms I go to.
Probably also depends how trend driven a specific market is. As in how most people copy what others are doing. Some are more than others. I would say the US is highly trend driven, and copying/being influenced by others is commonplace.
plus, this phenomenon of wearing sports clothing 24/7 doesn't exist in Europe AT ALL so here people buy Lululemon for running, weight lifting or yoga which puts the brands public image in a completely different light
It is very sad, but probably true. It always leads to exploitation. Products become cheaper and literally more toxic. Lululemon is made out of plastic, nothing more, nothing less. I have been trying to raise awareness through my channel, but its still hardly known how bad these materials are for everybody!
This was really interesting. I just saw lululemon as another company with stupidly overpriced clothing, so I ignored it. The thatgirl trend also wasn't on my radar. I wonder if it was more people looking to get fit or more people looking to brag they had a Brand name product who were buying it??
Absolutely, it is all so pretentious, showy, and stupid. What does it matter if you have on the 'it' clothing and you are a mindless sheep following someone else's illusion? Wow! people need to wake up. But maybe not, because if a person has to follow someone else's thinking maybe it's best they are left asleep, there is apparently not much thinking going on there. All the best to you, an awake one.
@@pjj.5649 it doesn't, but fashion would not be a multi-billion dollar enterprise if people didn't care about the clothing they wore. Welcome to reality.
@@hanwagu9967 Everyone has some sort of symbol of success they care about. The issue is when it gets taken to such extremes. Sorry you're ugly and can't dress.
I don’t really see the negatives. So they advocate fitness and self improvement… it is just a completely baseless subjective assertion to say they go too far with promoting fitness… also yoga isn’t exactly going to kill someone or promote being too fit which is their main thing. I don’t see lululemon promoting bodybuilding or something else that takes things to the extreme. It’s hard to imagine someone is going to take yoga to the extreme is all I’m saying.
Watching this in public with earbuds in im sure led to a lot of people wondering why I watching videos of people working out in sportswear. great video nonetheless
Main character syndrome much? I promise you ppl in public aren’t focused on what’s your screen but more focused on thier owj day to day stress / activities. Stop fantasizing about other people fantasies about you lol
@@nikki2442 it’s just a joke alluding to how he’s a guy watching a video of what’s commonly known as a female leggings company. He probably felt a little awkward, no need to take it seriously lol
Lululemon is the only athletic / leisure wear that I wear. I don't know about a cult or that girl stuff, I just love the way the clothing fits and looks. I may be a bit obsessed, I buy a lot of new things, but have a lot of yoga pants, tops and jackets, vests etc for around 7 years and they are in perfect condition. It's worth the price. My opinion.
As a male I bought two workout pants and after 5 washes the heated pressed seams near the zipper started peeling off. They look good when its brand new but after a few washing they really go down hill. Even hockey players were complaining about the underwear tearing easily and they were charging at the time $35 for one pair and every player stopped buying them and guys stopped buying them too because they don't last when playing aggressive sports. So I'm still with Nike for the most part their quality is good even after years of washing and drying.
Here’s a fun fact: Luon and other Lululemon “fabrics” are trademarked - but they’re not really any different than fabrics from the next company. They didn’t create any new elements and slap their name on them: they made a character mark trademark and slapped it on average clothing.
Here's a fun fact: you need to be more specific in what you actually mean. When it comes down to it, all companies use nylon, polyester, wool, eptf, pu, etc raw fiber. There are some companies which hold patents on actual fibers like Lycra (which Lululemon Athletica uses and pays to use) or things like Gore-Tex membrane produced by Gore, or other fibers by Dupont, etc, etc. What is patented are design uses of fibers to make the fabric, of which Lululemon holds patents for several fabric designs. This isn't unique to Lululemon Athletica. fabric name is branding and marketing, which is also something not unique to Lululemon Athletica. Like every other company out there, lululemon also trademarks certain fabrics. So, I'm not understanding your point. Nike trademarks Dry-fit, and that's just 100% polyester. The North Face uses treatment on polyester and calls it FlashDry. Patagonia uses recycled cotton and calls it Infinna. Reebok uses Speedwick for essentially treated polyester or ACTIVCHILL as a fancy euphamism for mesh. Adidas calls polyester AEROREADY. and the list goes on and on.
what "fabrics"??? its all made of polyester PLASTIC. Which is why its hilarious when girls walk around with skin tight plastic around their crotch all day and think they're hot.
During a fitness challenge my male coworker kept saying that I will be funding his new Lulu wardrobe. I was never into Lulu before. Cause he kept talking about it, I bought one pair of leggings and sports bra in August. I have to admit that I love the leggings. I went on a hiking trip and basically wanted to wear those pants everyday. Basically converted because I own a few more pieces now. But I can honestly say I do not look like the “that girl” imagine. However there is an image attached to the brand.
Oh wow, Landmark Forum. I had a friend who was really into that in the 2000s. Yes, it seemed very cult-like. I’ve never seen the appeal of LuLuLemon. I do yoga every evening in my pyjamas- no special leggings required.
If you've ever played Bio-Shock before that is a critique of Ayn Rands philosophy and how it's utterly awful and inheritanly dystopian. For example Andrew Ryan, Ayn Rand get it. There is also an atlas shrugged statue as you enter the abandoned city. There are other nods to it. But that's what sparked the idea, reading Ayn Rands books and looking at the dystopia her ideology would bring.
As someone who lives in sweden the Lululemon hype/trend is not something im familiar with. Here the trendy sports brand of choice is kari traa. I would love if you made a video of them and their impact.
Really interesting video! I worked for lulu for over a year, after chip stepped down, and most of the employees laughed about how culty the job was but at the same time loved it. Yeah for sure toxic positivity - but it was really inspiring and everyone was very supportive of everyone’s individual goals and it was the best work environment ive ever had. I felt really taken care of and respected - something ive never felt since in a workplace. And i worked in vancouver, where chip is from/the first lululemon opened. Im not sure how it was before, but everyone at my work unanimously disagreed with chip and was happy they had new management.
I appreciate how you took a lighthearted approach to the creepy side of the brand. There are a lot of reasons why Chip isn't there and I feel carefully touching the surface is better than a full on deep dive. This approach also allows people who enjoy the brand today not feel creepy. I don't own any of their clothing, but do appreciate that those who are super fans shouldn't feel transference of the founder and his oddities when they wear the clothes
Every time I see Lululemon on the internet someone has to bring up Chip Wilson and the racist name. It’s like I like their clothes so please don’t shame me about feeling comfortable!
I hear what you're saying in terms of taking it too far, but we live in a country where 70 grams of sugar are allowed in a 20 ounce soda. America is the most obese country, so maybe it's ok for a company trying to push health to another level. Clearly we have a long way to go, unfortunately we are living in a time where people take offence to just about anything people say and do.
Concentrate on yourself and family...lots of people a genetically fat...although it's easy to say they lack willpower...or blame liquid sugar...this is a great time in human history..30 billion lives... 26 billion died of starvation
Speaking of the that girl trend; I think everyone's version of "That girl” should be different and consists of what makes THAT individual feel good. And it should cater to your lifestyle (how much time it takes) so that it's sustainable and the habits are consistent. I 100% feel better when I do some of the typical "that girl" things early in the morning, I just do it my way aka a workout I look forward to, just throwing my comforter over my bed, eating a quick breakfast I like, etc.
Yeah I agree but that would be a *healthy* way to do it😅 The culty way is to send subliminal messages that we are *not good enough* if we don’t live in a big house with big windows facing the sun and time to focus on our wellbeing (as someone who can, this aspect of “self-care” is totally about privilege). It can be entirely divisive and pits women against other women instead of creating a safe productive space where we all feel empowered.
Editor has missed a stellar opportunity in this video... Every time that Levi would say "But", there should've been a quick flash of a butt in yoga pants! This is unacceptable 🤣
I bought into Lulu a couple years ago when Nike and UnderArmour switched to being more lifestyle brands and predatory lifestyle companies like Fabletics came to be. Lulu was the most functional fitness wear available to me at the time with the best quality materials for a price similar to Nike,UA and Fabletics.
I had NO IDEA there was a Lululemon community… I mean, I own a single Lululemon sweatshirt and I like it because it’s pretty and well made, but that’s about it…
None of this seems really that bad besides the founder stuff. Women themselves buy clothing purposefully to make their butts look better and the average consumer isn't aspiring to be a "that girl". Most people like lululemon because their products are some of the easiest available + comfiest on the market. You could definitely come back at this topic with some harder hitting points such as greenwashing
ive only ever watched you on my phone. This is my first time watching you on a desktop. that crochet pen cup cozy....too cute! who crochets in your life?!
So glad I’ve never purchased Lululemon. Gross. The new craze down here in SoCal are the Vuori joggers. Not a day goes by where I don’t see at least 3+ people wearing those joggers… It’s really bizarre..
More lulu talk please. I started wearing the brand when I was your age. Recently I went into a store; I’m the same size as I was back then but now with my proudly quaffed grey hair. I had an employee come up to me and say, “I’m sorry, we don’t have anything here you’d be looking for!! Whaaa? I went in to buy pants and a top to add to my other lulu brand “go to” pieces that I love, and left DISGUSTED!! Also, as a retired teacher, I had maintained my LinkedIn acct. I get continuous feeds/requests to apply for “education advisor” for the lulu. As far as I can tell, it looked like a glorified name for a salesperson/sales associate. Pe-lease? 😩
I work at lululemon here in Hong Kong and I’m sure that educator doesn’t represent the rest of us. The company takes pride in being inclusive and our jobs as an educator may appear no different from being a salesperson but our job is to really educate our guests on the many fabrics and fit to help you all make your well informed decision before making your purchase. Perhaps you could bring that up to a key leader in store about it :c That’s a shame to hear about your poor experience :/
I’m a guy who “lives in leggings” as women say…. I’ve expanded my about 1/2 my leggings to lululemon i like the high quality and the support for damage or defective products and there replacement policies. Also yes, I use my bags i got in the grocery store….Why???? Because i see everyone else do it and when I saw the bags first i wanted to see the store they came from and now….oh wait….It worked ehh???? Good plan lululemon!!!! You got me and many others!!!! I am going to bet 98% of there leggings buys are women with the last 2% us guys, but my money is green as everybody’s else. Then i had to go get some lululemon murse(man purse) loosing my pockets!!! Expensive as hell, but overall quality is well worth it.
I'm from the UK and this is the first time I've heard of this company. I usually see people in the gym wearing Under Armour in terms of what brand I see the most. I see they have a UK website and wow is it expensive lol
It’s pricy, but the clothes actually are of good quality…and I say this as a guy. The shorts and pants they make for men are awesome. Especially if you travel frequently.
you have to admit though, lululemon makes some really comfortable athletic wear. it had definitely been the most comfortable that i’ve ever bought and it fits in all the right places. if y’all have any other alternatives brands please let me know!! i’ve tried a lot and i do think lulu is lowkey worth the price with the rest of the market.
As a yoga teacher, I refuse to buy Lululemon. That free yoga class they offer the Lululemon 'community' is free because they DON'T PAY the TEACHERS! Teachers are expected to teach for nothing in exchange for the prestige of working with the company.
Hey man I stumbled on your channel a couple weeks ago, I'm really into it.. way better than most I've seen.. keep it up, good content and very personable. Good content is Appreciated.
I know people love to rag on Lulu educators but actually, the ones at my local store are super nice and super helpful. Def not racist/sexist/body-shaming. But I’m sure there ‘s def some out there.
My entire closet is Lululemon. From my hat down to my shoes. I’ve been a solid customer for 14 years now. I’m balls deep into this cult and there’s no going back. Send help.
Love the video! I think it's important to add to the positive note about them pushing a "healthy" lifestyle: the idea that you can lose weight if you truly set your mind to it is fully proven to be bullshit, and implies people who aren't thin are lazy or unhealthy.
I mean, you can lose weight if your environment is conducive and you dedicate a lot of time an energy to it. But it's probably a waste of time. Losing weight can be very unhealthy if not done perfectly and without a very low stress environment it's pretty easy to put the weight back on anyway. And for what? As you said, being a bit heavier isn't unhealthy. Meanwhile there are a lot of really unhealthy thin people out there. Much better to focus on getting regular moderate exercise, eating well, enjoying yourself, and having good function.
I moved to the US 3 years ago and I had never heard about Lululemon until I found on Reddit that it was a good brand for leggings, so I wasn't aware of all the brand background, hype or social status. I just can say the leggings are very comfortable and they shape the body very nice, but also I feel that they are overpriced because the quality is not that good, I got lint on the crotch only 1 week after using them; however, I tried other brands and so far Lululemon are the most comfortable.
I love lululemon, I’ve never felt another material like their align and it always stays up, isn’t see through, they have super small clothing sizes that don’t give me cameltoe (bc I’m tiny and that’s something I used to struggle with throughout middle school and early high school). The design does look great too and the quality is awesome and they will let u trade in too if it wears down, the material grips my skin and feels like I’m wearing nothing but it’s still thick and absorbs sweat , even their shirts I never get sweat stains in the gym ! Yes it’s expensive and I recommend 90 degree leggings if u want a similar material, they’re the only other leggings I’ve liked :) I also feel like it definitely compliments ur body too which is bc of the stitching and design which I LOVE, and u do get a reusable bag when u shop that I use sooo much just to throw stuff in and go , perfect for wet bathing suits for example if I don’t wanna get like one of my nice bags dirty or something. It’s also great that they specifically categorize their clothes to fit certain activities. I think the company was more focused on the “it girl” factor, but now they have curvy sizes and bigger sizes, along with different newer type of fashions, so I think the brand has more morals now or at least focus on things morally (bc it looks better) , like the workers I feel like used to b judgmental and now I love going to the store and talking with the workers.
Oh no… not the Landmark Forum!!! Back in my first semester in college as a freshman I met this other student. She was quite friendly and all that. We went out to coffee once and that’s where she brought up this Landmark Forum. I looked into it and discovered that this was a total joke. They find down and out individuals, promise them that all of their problems will be fixed if they invest/and participate in the Landmark Forum. I knew it was a scam and I’m amazed that people fall for these things! You should make a video on the Landmark Forum!
I remember a really similar video about GymShark and how it went from cool gym clothing to embracing fake "natural" bodybuilders as their affiliate marketing puppet system
I really loved your videos about brands. But on the new channel there are just videos about brands I (living in europe) have never heard of. 🙈 I hope there will be more "international" videos again soon!
I really appreciate what you're going for here, but I think you're reporting on some REALLY old stuff for Lululemon. They've not required a number of the things you've called out (landmark, for example) for years, and I think if you were to look at their glassdoor or articles about "what it's like to work there" you'd realize the company has done an incredible job of supporting their team members during the pandemic. All in all, I think you've done a good job of describing the company that existed maybe 5 years ago, but I'd challenge you to look a little deeper and realize they've heavily invested in addressing those issues.
Too expensive for the quality…..! Surprised bigger brands like Adidas, Nike etc haven’t released a more premium line yet to compete with lulu at a better price point……
I think Lulu makes my butt look awful. But it's super comfortable, well-made and well-thought out. Great for crossfit and I like their tops with built in bras for Hawai'i summers. I've had some pieces since 2008. But now I shop second hand. Way cheaper and I don't contribute to the company. And they only recently started sizes for bigger girls. Finally.
To be honest, I don’t buy Lululemon for yoga and all but the leggings are definetly long lasting and GREAT for running. I normally wear them to everywhere. I’m a legging girl more than jeans because I can’t be bothered to take so long to wear pants unless I’m hanging out for a long time. It is also quite comfortable for dancing. I wear mine to my dance class and it is quite nice and comfy. Fast fashion isn’t good but Lululemon IS long lasting. The shorts and tops are nice for my daily wear too. in my country it is overly overpriced so I only own 4 things (2 leggings, 1 pair of shorts, 1 top)
I’m surprised you didn’t bring up the size issue, or maybe that’s changed? They used to limit their sizes to keep the customer base on the smaller side, from what could tell, and make you feel badly if you needed larger sizes, that said, I had a top from them that I bought maybe 25 years ago that never wore out and was perfect for camping/ canoeing trips up North. I’m not sure if the quality is the same as when they first started out but thrifts routinely overprice anything with a Lululemon logo.
Can you do one on Aloyoga? I get a similar vibe from them, and I remember that they had a controversy in the past about not including plus sizes as it didn't fit their "ideal customer".
Alo clothings and leggings suck to be honest they dont last long and the material is cheap feels like nike or adidas but with a *fancy name in the other hand lulu leggings will last a long time ive had pants from 5 years ago and they still fit well and the color of the fabric still vibrant mind you i wear the heck out of them! I rather spend 80 bucks in a pair of leggings that will last me years rather than buy cheap made clothes that will rip, discolor, pill in 3 washes another thing i love about lulu is their logo not tacky its simple and not too flashy
Not gonna lie I just thought lululemon was for white moms who drive landrovers and live in leggings but my friend recently introduced me to their ABC pants..and I’m hooked
Can you do a review on Decathlon? Especially their environmental impact? I think we are all are familiar with the quality and pricing. Maybe there's something out there on it, but I want to know from you :3
As a Canadian, Lulu is one of the only activewear brands we have access to without having to pay $$$ in import fees, so the trajectory they're on as a brand is kind of disappointing :(
Chip Wilson sounds like a genius. Find peoples insecurities, make a product that alleviates it and sell expensive. It’s good that people take care of themselves but a lot of people become the brand instead of just wearing the clothes. It’s like gym bros but worse, since they follow a brand whereas gym bros do not. Granted that you can see a lot of good butts in the street these days.

World’s largest athletic brand? It’s sales are less than 1/10th of Nike. How is this statement qualified?
"Elevate the world from mediocrity to greatness"... sounds like something straight out of the WeWork branding textbook. 😆
Honestly been wearing lululemon since 2017. The best workout pants out there!!!
I have 4 pairs and they are my absolute favorite and I haven’t, and may never, wear any other shorts. I am in love with them! I wear black jeans but other than that, I am wearing my shorts everyday!
They’re not the only ones
as a lulu lemon wearer I can confirm, this is true.
Even those lululemon reusable bags were status symbols, all the rich girls brought their lunches in them while the rest of us plebs used green grocery bags 🙃
I remember
Haha, that’s how I was introduced to Lululemon…
Its there inner Autism showing lmao
HAHA my high school was the same
It hasn’t changed btw
I don't think Lululemon promotes fitness, so much as a LOOK of fitness. People were exercising and leading healthy lives before everyone started wearing exercise clothes 24/7. People like these clothes because it's comfortable and a " no brainer" way of putting a "look" together. I think things are changing though, as Lululemon is associated with a certain older demographic. I don't see GenZ and younger wanting to wear this label to represent their ethos.
editing this comment after 5 months of endless replies:
So what I have observed from the endless comments on this matter, is it seems very specific to the crew you are hanging around.
Lulumon is overrated, just another dumb overpriced brand.
From what I have seen, Generation Z seems to love Lululemon.
No you are right. I worked for them for a little & what you are saying is true.
$10?? LOL, no thanks. I’ll just sell them on Depop for $70 myself. That program sounds like their worst idea yet 😂
ngl, if you wrote one, id probably read it.
I font understand. What do you mean their desires? Health?
Precisely!
We're planning on it! There was just too much to fit into a single video with all the uhh... unfortunate elements of this brand.
There sweet have to walk 10+ miles a day for work and LULU has always replaced or repaired anything of mine no questions asked.
"sustainable" practices is just marketing promoted by for profit organizations like bluesign, etc. I would like the heavily marketed "sustainable" textile companies to actually be honest about how sustainable is the marketed sustainable hype.
They can’t repair see through.
They also have a program where you can turn in your old stuff for a small reward at stores
Not me coming back from the gym in a full Lululemon outfit opening UA-cam and seeing this video. Perfect timing haha
Hahaha this one's pretty juicy 👀😅
Glad your name isn't Lulu Lemon 😅
Literally me!!! 😅
I just remember the scandal where Lululemon yoga pants were deemed "unacceptably see-through," and they claimed "it's not our fault; it's the customer stuffing their fat asses into tights that don't fit."
I like see-through yoga pants; I also like horrible public-facing corporate statements.
There’s a podcast where the owner was explaining what happened

I used to go to school with Chips son and they really infiltrated our school with lulu-girls. His son even gave free lulu's out to his friends and girlfriends. It was very culty and if you didn't wear Lululemon, Aritzia, or TNA you didn't matter.
This was highschool in ON too
Wooooow ! Oh my god ! Sooo glad I got out of the lower mainland when I did ….
But yeah sadly
I’m going to have to start
Looking aroumd
I can't decide whether to think that Chip chap is a madman or a genius.
Lmao, that's friggin hilarious
I still laugh about this. Rururemon lmao
Having also heard the origins of the name of the company, it seems that the founder has many issues, not just sexism but racism too
That man is ALL issues 😅
What’s the meaning behind the name of the store?
It’s funny to watch them try to say it."
It's not so much brands with the letter L are highly sought after but that a local Japanese person wouldn't necessarily come up with a name with L in it.
YES!!!
I was thinking that with Knix too. They are a Canadian brand who do work out clothes but started with underwear. They are female run and pretty diverse in size and colour.
I absolutely love Girlfriend Collective!!
I have always had a fairly basic rule of thumb when it comes to whether or not I should trust a corporation or not. The answer is NOT.

Its probably because they are made out of plastic. Particularly men shouldnt wear plastics on their body, super bad for health and fertility
If laser targeted marketing is a crime, then almost all companies are guilty whether for trying or succeeding. These reasons are ridiculous
Trademarks are not about the product’s performance or pattern.
Alright. I’m definitely picking up that book so I can start my own cult to push my agendas. Nice.
Same 😅🤣
During a fitness challenge my male coworker kept saying that I will be funding his new Lulu wardrobe.

I saw a girl run out of that building in tears the other day so I imagine its more on the toxic and less on the positivity these days
Recently found this channel and absolutely love the format and well thought out videos!
Welcome aboard! Thanks so much for being here Caleb 🙏🏻
Hahahahah okay that is a hilarious idea! 😅😂
I had NO IDEA there was a Lululemon community… I mean, I own a single Lululemon sweatshirt and I like it because it’s pretty and well made, but that’s about it…
“But the lululemon community isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.”
No. It’s a bunch of stuck up, narcissistic, mean junior high girls. ☺️
well joke is on them, they are wearing plastic.
Weird that you watched an entire video on the CEO and misogyny decided to blame literal children instead.
Great video! Were you wearing Allbirds in the b-roll shots? Love to see a video on them.
Levi's archetype is outdoor flannel guys
None of this seems really that bad besides the founder stuff. Women themselves buy clothing purposefully to make their butts look better and the average consumer isn't aspiring to be a "that girl". Most people like lululemon because their products are some of the easiest available + comfiest on the market.
You could definitely come back at this topic with some harder hitting points such as greenwashing
But LLL is so comfy womfy 🥺
ive only ever watched you on my phone. This is my first time watching you on a desktop. that crochet pen cup cozy....too cute! who crochets in your life?!
I love the mean girls reference, and it’s also Wednesday, and I’m also wearing pink 😌😌😌
We love the vibes 💕✨
Levi should've been wearing pink 👀 missed opportunity haha
@@FutureProofTV exactly! Tell him next time wear pink on Wednesday lol
Hahah I didn’t even realize but I’m wearing pretty much an entire pink outfit 😂😂😂
@@user-wc6bl4zs4i yeeess 💕✨
So glad I’ve never purchased Lululemon. Gross. The new craze down here in SoCal are the Vuori joggers. Not a day goes by where I don’t see at least 3+ people wearing those joggers… It’s really bizarre..
Got a Lululemon ad a minute into the video😂
They're on it 👀😅
More lulu talk please.
Maybe it was a misunderstanding?
@@erikaerhardt8136 or maybe they’re just plain rude.
Oh no, one person said something rude to me that one time, burn the company to the ground!
You probably asked them for an item they dont carry and made it sound like they were telling you off.
lmfaoooo "Chip fnk Wilson" 😂
I personally love Lululemon and I don’t think I could live without it as I’m a dancer and that’s basically all we wear when we are practicing! :)
You're not the only basic bit normie out there dont worry
I’m a dancer but the only way I could buy Lululemon products was If I sold my mom’s car 😅 (a bit of a joke but kinda true)
Got the Lululemon ad at the beginning of this video😅😅😅
Let's gooo! 😅🤣
I had never heard of this brand before but that's super gross marketing
I'm from the UK and this is the first time I've heard of this company. I usually see people in the gym wearing Under Armour in terms of what brand I see the most. I see they have a UK website and wow is it expensive lol
Same here, but then again, I dont think people at the gym would care what you're wearing as theyre too busy doing their own shit.
It’s pricy, but the clothes actually are of good quality…and I say this as a guy. The shorts and pants they make for men are awesome. Especially if you travel frequently.
I accidentally started the trend of wearing pajamas in public, lol
you have to admit though, lululemon makes some really comfortable athletic wear. it had definitely been the most comfortable that i’ve ever bought and it fits in all the right places. if y’all have any other alternatives brands please let me know!! i’ve tried a lot and i do think lulu is lowkey worth the price with the rest of the market.
Athleta!!
@Wa TCH true
Its not comfortable because wearing sweaty plastic clothes cant be. You sound brainwashed. Look up what polyester is.
How about Vuori?
I feel like this video is just scratching the surface. I hope you do a part 2
Send help.
Me too!
No, keep wearing and buying lululemon, there is no substitute for it.
@@Ben-Carr I agree. I’ve tried it all and nothing lasts as long or is as comfy and flattering.
@@carolineTwhelan nothing else has those three traits like lululemon does. Especially the flattering part.
Not me wearing lulus while watching this😂
I moved to the US 3 years ago and I had never heard about Lululemon until I found on Reddit that it was a good brand for leggings, so I wasn't aware of all the brand background, hype or social status. I just can say the leggings are very comfortable and they shape the body very nice, but also I feel that they are overpriced because the quality is not that good, I got lint on the crotch only 1 week after using them; however, I tried other brands and so far Lululemon are the most comfortable.
According to Chip, that’s the fault of your body, (he did later apologise).
What is actually toxic is viewing a strive for perfection as toxic. Can anyone be perfect? No. But should we be striving for it? Absolutely.
LMAO100$ leggins? Is this a joke?
As much as I can stand behind the mission to make butts look better (pun intended) those prices are ridiculous.
yay on getting a sponsor!! sooo deserved! cant wait to see what other companies choose to show their support!
I remember a really similar video about GymShark and how it went from cool gym clothing to embracing fake "natural" bodybuilders as their affiliate marketing puppet system
this is my first introduction to what the "that girl" thing actually is: the only mention I've seen of it online is people making fun of it
I really loved your videos about brands. But on the new channel there are just videos about brands I (living in europe) have never heard of. 🙈 I hope there will be more "international" videos again soon!
Biiig international brand video coming soon 👀 Keep an eye out! Thanks for being a part of the team ✌
Chip is so far removed from lululemon culture right now this is irrelevant
I’ve been protesting lulu’s bullsh*t for years and only buying athleta, a certified b corp!
Athleta is owned by Gap, though, a company that didn't have the greatest history of ethical treatment.
Athleta is better!
Future Proof’s best episode yet. You nailed this!!!
Great video an overall well presented balanced conversation around some of the negitive aspects of Lululemon.
"i guess she hates me" hahahaha
Not gonna lie I just thought lululemon was for white moms who drive landrovers and live in leggings but my friend recently introduced me to their ABC pants..and I’m hooked
If wearing expensive sport comfortable clothing brands make you exercise more, then go for it. What matters is the end result. Your health.
Health is the most important, but you should not be wearing polyester materials to achieve that. There are better options.
Can you do a review on Decathlon? Especially their environmental impact?
I think we are all are familiar with the quality and pricing.
Maybe there's something out there on it, but I want to know from you :3
"To oversimplify this" that is the only way objectivism should be explained.
Yes, yes it would be awesome if you could make another video on them!!
It’s really strange that I dislike a brand, but love its founder so much
barely 6 months and almost at 100k? way to go team!
Thanks so much, Anton! We're working hard over here, glad to see people enjoy what we're putting out there 😉💪
They make the best fitting, longest lasting and most unique leggings period. That's why people love Lululemon and will continue to buy them.
Wednesday uploads are becoming my favourite thing🤗
Thanks for being here 🙏🏻❤️
He started with Westbeach & sold the brand for a cool 15 mil as it was disintegrating, which taught him the value of branding over merch.
FutureProof is the one video I look forward to every week. Congrats on the sponsor 👏
Thanks so much!! We love Wednesdays too 🎉
I love all of your contents. This is exactly what I have been looking for. THANK YOU
As a Canadian, Lulu is one of the only activewear brands we have access to without having to pay $$$ in import fees, so the trajectory they're on as a brand is kind of disappointing :(
Congrats on your first sponsor!! 100k coming in no time 💪🏼💪🏼
Chip Wilson sounds like a genius. Find peoples insecurities, make a product that alleviates it and sell expensive.
It’s good that people take care of themselves but a lot of people become the brand instead of just wearing the clothes. It’s like gym bros but worse, since they follow a brand whereas gym bros do not.
Granted that you can see a lot of good butts in the street these days.
insecurities or giving them what they wanted all along?
