VS Tomba 8B+/V14 & an INSANE First Ascent

- After climbing Ellis Island (the dyno from the previous video) it was time to move over to Tomba, a crazy beautiful 8B+/V14 that Jimmy Webb established the FA of a few years ago. It's been a dream of mine to try it ever since, and in today's video we take a look at the second session I have on that bad boy. But before that, on the drive up to the valley I see a massive tongue shaped feature that's asking for a first ascent of it to be made.
Mellows video with Jimmy's FA:

About Tomba: beautiful Boulder in Bavona. but for the whole community remember that this boulder is in a private garden. You only need to be kind to enter. This year I have already had a German climber come to me aggressively because my dog is loose in the garden and that I should not have a dog loose in a bouldering area, then a group of climbers from Zurich leave their garbage bag in the garden and others who walk in and don't even bother to say hello, I like that people keep coming to climb here. But we only ask for the minimum of kindness. a simple hello based, and not walk in the garden as if they were at home.
Hello Alejandro! I’ll pin this comment on here so hopefully some people who visit might see it, and I’ll be sure to forward what you said to other climbers I meet.
Thanks for taking the time to share what you feel about climbers being there!
I'm so impressed in your power endurance! It's amazing that you could do so many powerful moves in a day, after three days of hard climbing, really. Keep it up!
do you ever just take a moment to realize how far you've come? I just had a moment where I really took a look at what it is you are able to accomplish now and it blew me away. Props Emil, you deserve it. Can't wait to see you end up in the hall of fame of outdoor boulderers and strive to repeat the dream lines you put up!
Oh wow, what a generous and kind comment. Thank you for that, I’m grateful you wrote it 🙏
Emil: I don't want to try too hard and spoil my energy before the project of the day.
Also Emil: Hey look at that insane feature, we should go PROJECT before the project of the day!
man how does a boulder like that even appear in that way. epic FA! Looking forward to you sending Tomba!
Great video Emil - we need more Cordi climbs too though !
Couldn’t agree more! Keep your notifications ready for the next video next week ;) it’s one that I’m INCREDIBLY psyched on
I liked the way you broke everything down. Video had a nice flow, like i was chilling with you for the sesh. You got my sub and like 👍🏼
Cheers mate, I appreciate you taking the time to say so :-)
So fun putting up new FAs. Beautiful work.
Absolutely wild, man! Tomba's going down, I'm sure. :) And such a cool FA to establish. Maybe I'm making oral comparisons because you suggested it looks like a tongue, but I kinda thought it looked like a giant tooth at certain angles. "Loose Tooth" would be a weirdly magnificent name for another line, no? :D
Ouf that’s another good one! Maybe it does more look like a tooth 🧐
I'm really enjoying seeing you progress on these boulders :)
It's so nice to see you in Switzerland my beloved home, i was never in Val Bavona but maybe this year and take a look at "the tongue" 😉 nice vid as always👍
I was really looking forward for your Van journey to begin, and it was worth the wait. All your uploads put a smile on my face. Keep it up😋
Emil, your psyche gets me psyched!!
Seems like you had an awesome day! Great progress on Tomba.

Un nuovo classico è “dai alce!”, invece che toro, fa più nordico

This "Shaggy" guy from Dcooby Doo sure climbs well!
Very nice first ascent. Good progress on Tomba for sure. Jealous of how you're living your life atm I think ahah
Great video!
Great video, keep it up!
Oh yeah! Not so bad, only v9 😅
..meanwhile I haven't sent V4 outside 😂
Sick effort. Wanted you to get the send so bad!
Low key that right hand bump move is so hard, basically doing the climb to link it from there.
Love the outdoor content! When is the next trip?!
Probably heading back down for meiringen and then back on the rock!
So damn enjoyable. Riktigt schysst!
So hype for this.
i love ur vids so much but i wish the climbing segments didnt have music over them so that i felt more "in the moment"
Hey mate! Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate you taking the time to write it :-)
@@EmilAbrahamsson of course man. keep up the good content/sends! btw, i followed the plan from your 30 day finger training video, and my fingers have gotten way stronger
Yay!!
8B+ dooouuuude
Nice one!
Watching how quickly you progressed on Tomba was fucking sick.
Sorry Emil no FA, I flashed that tongue boulder without chalk awhile back, felt more like 6B to me.
Seriously it’s insane how fast you’re making progress on that 8B+, it’s going down for sure
Love the homeless look 🤣🤣🤣 nice vídeo dude
Crazy
have you check out Matt Fultz' beta for the bump? Comparing your betas for it, his definitely looks easier!
Haha i actually had but had also completely forgotten about it, in other words I did not try it actually
Siiiiiiiiick Emil! What pants do you wear?
Thanks mate! Wearing a pair of Houdini trousers here :-)
Any tips on how to check if rock like that which has never been climbed on before is safe and won't break or tip over?
To check if it has been climbed look to see if moss and lichen have been removed near/on holds and if the boulder has been scrubbed and brushed.
As for safety, boulders will almost never tip over. You don't weigh very much compared to a big chunk of stone. Unless it is balanced like a ballerina on her tippy toes, you're probably fine.
Emil is working on a boulder that is made of very high quality granite. The river has water polished it and removed most of the parts that would break. He's also using a steel brush. For other types of rock I'd suggest pairing brush stiffness to the rock hardness. For example, granite = steel, limestone = brass (most of the time), and sandstone = brass or plastic. You don't want to scar the rock, just remove dirt, lichen, and loose stuff.
Also, because he's working on bomber granite brushing is probably enough. For most other types of stone you want to really get in there and remove loose stuff. I'd get a small screwdriver and if there are cracks all the way around something, remove it. Remember, safety is best. You don't want to pull on something and have it explode in your face or break off when your high off the deck. Some stone is really solid and doesn't have much loose stuff. Other boulders will be covered in loose chunks and the solid stuff will be underneath. And then other boulders will be junk and never be solid.
Oh, and remember to brush the topout and flatten the landing!
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
@@gball8466 I'd like to add to this that before starting to brush anything you should make sure it is OK to do so. At least here in Finland you are required to get the permission of the landowner before starting to clean the rock.
I loved the soundtrack! do you mind sending me the playlist??
Aw cheers mate! I’ll see if I can get a playlist sorted out for the videos I post. I think musicbed has that type of function but I’m unsure
So strong...do you plan to be back on the road? If so when?
For sure. Most likely right after meiringen, driving there is the plan
🔥
Good stuff! Hope you send.
What about the name 'The Swedish Line' for the FA ;-). It reminded me of the Nalle kingline
Haha I was actually considering that, no joke. Saving it for the next arete!
Haha awesome. It looks like a great climb!
nice vid!!!!!!!
Where did you get that ladder?
Fucking delicious video!!! Psych is high!!!
Just a question, how do you know it's a first ascent ?
With the first boulder (Ellis island sit) I wasn’t so I asked Giuliano, and he informed me it hadn’t been done. Still is a project though :P
With the second one you can tell by the fact that nothing had been removed or brushed, so all the holds were filled with moss etc. So unless somebody did it a few hundred years ago it’s most probably a first ascent
Yee
go Emil
damn
comment to help the channel grow!
sick as fuck
whatever!
First
Damn, i regret this
I've become one of them
I’m proud of you!
Two quality vids in 5 days? Do you even sleep? Great job (Y)
Haha cheers. Hoping this to be the new standard, would like to get two videos out per week atleast :-)
