Excellent endgame study. Intuitively I would have said that the two pieces and the passer would have been enough, but that goes to prove that rooks are really strong in the endgame, when there are so many open files and ranks.
This line (main engine line after 10. ... Bxb2): 11. Bxa5 Bxa1 12. Nc3 Bxc3+ 13. Bxc3 Rf8 Results in black having a really bad position with no space despite being up the exchange. Evaluation by engine is +2.9

I believe this is the second time you've shown Chucky resign in a draw position. It seems at this age he just says the hell with it, I'm not in the mood to play it out
I'm really amazed at how much your English has improved in the time you've been presenting your chess channel. Have you had lessons or is it just practice?
3:23 after Bd2 at my level I would need a line to be shown explaining why Bb2 is not a good response from black. I understand it might alas be obvious to most viewers.
If you mean Bxb2, I assume it would be countered by Bc3, forcing an exchange and leaving white with a better position (black underdeveloped with no black bishop and the rook on g8 exposed) at the cost of one pawn.
It is not an easy line at all. If Bxd2, white wins with Bxa5 because after blacks takes the rook on a1, white plays nc3 almost forcing the trade of bishop x night on c3 and, after white Bishop on a5 captures back, white has control of the long diagonal and way better development for the exchange. If you don't trade on c3 and try to save the bishop with something like Bb2 white gets a ton of initiative. If you what to snap that B2 pawn best thing to do would probably be to trade knight for bishop on B3 and then play Bxb2. I checked with the computer and it says it's equal.
not obvious to me and even after the explanations stated by others I would still do it. I was going to ask the same question but the comment section never lets me down.
I’m not a GM by any measure, but I sometimes resign positions where I think I could work hard and get a draw. It’s just that drawing doesn’t feel any better than losing so putting in a ton of work for a draw seems pointless. I’m not playing in tournaments though, of course.
@@PurplePigCEO He sounds like someone who plays online casually, which is perfectly reasonable. Not everyone who plays chess has a goal of becoming the best player they can be.
This game oscillated between obvious and some very subtle moves all the way to the end, fantastic achievement by Leya and Vasyl, kudos to Leya for the win! Thanks for this great analysis!
Every other chess UA-camr is absolutely in love with Magnus, and they worship the ground he walks on... I really like that Antonio's favourite players are Ivanchuk and Tal and Dubov, and he's not just looking for views by only showing games from Magnus, Hans and Hikaru
I think that any attention chess can get is positive. I have been with Antonio before levy blew up. Both creators have their strengths and reasons why I watch them. Antonio gives a documentary like style to the game and makes you feel smarter than what you really are, whereas Levy feels like my shit talking friend that bullies me for me being bad but it's all good lol. And then Hikaru is the crazy fast professor that makes you realize you'll never reach his level 😅. All in all, I want chess to get bigger, no matter who does it. There's so many more games that must be played
I've been enjoying your recent coverage of women in chess, the games have been interesting especially in the context of their success versus these asymmetrical ratings.
I have won a R versus N+B endgame with the rook against a strong player in a game which decided club championship. The issue with it when there are a few pawns on both sides of the board is that the knight cannot easily play on both sides of the board and lacking support points it can be attacked to gain tempo.
There is a very enjoyable book by GM Ian Rogers, "Oops, I resigned again," all examples of players of all levels resigning in drawn or even winning positions. Every position looks resignable indeed, but since you know it's in this book, you eventually see the way out. Recommended.
For those who are interested in evaluation, Rxc5 was the only move for V.I. to continue the game. Evaluation 0.2 at the depth of 41. The second best move gave 1.16 and the third 2.37 which is definitely losing. Not to say that Vassily would miss Rxc5 but the time trouble and stuff, maybe resignation might be the, well probably not the best, but gentlemanish decision.

Ivanchuk has always been somewhat of an artist and if his position looks ugly to him his play weakens considerably, or he resigns. Of course he's also a competitor so this tendency only shows up once in awhile.
That was a kind of odd ending with a move that wasn’t even played yet the Fork that she was about to do with her knight winning two pieces surprisingly he didn’t continue a Rook vs passed pawn Bishop and Knight I think it would’ve taken much effort from him to even draw that game so I kind of understand his decision to resign
