Marconi didn't invent radio, but wireless, that is transmission of radio signal and it's reception, but it was not decoded into audio. The task was left to Lee de Forest who did it making a valve set.

Not all radios were shut down, only madras radio was shut down due to financial crisis and rest two radio stations continued
