I recently checked my vitamin d and it was very, VERY low that my doctor told me it's dangerous.. I started taking the highest dose of vitamin D3 and I will check again after 3 months.. I'm saying this because you guys might have a lot of health issues that are all related to vitamin D deficiency and you don't know it, like being tired all the time and having bone pain (like me). It can also cause depression.. So I encourage everyone to go check right away!
I was referred to a dermatologist a couple of months ago because I had a "thing" pop up on my forehead, although it went away by the time my derm appointment rolled around. The dermatologist asked me what I did for sunscreen and I told her broad spectrum zinc 50 spf sunscreen every day and she was really pleased. I gave you credit!
Dr. Dray, I am an NP in geriatric practice I have watched many of your videos for years and I must tell you how grateful I am for you education, you make me a better NP! Thank you!
I'm 72, I've been sunburned and peeled skin off my head at least 20 times over the years. I've had cancers cut out and frozen off my face and head many times. I'm currently going through a Fluorouracil treatment and look like that "Deadpool" character from the comics. A word to the wise folks, wear a hat and use sunscreen.
I really like Dr Dray for product/ingredient info but this video simply reaffirmed my decision to never go to a dermatologist! There are much less barbaric ways (safe)to deal with skin conditions/diseases!
Thank you for addressing this issue. Causation and treatment. I am very diligent about using sunscreen, & sun protective clothing. Being a mature woman I was born at a time that we baby oiled and baked our skin. I being as fair as a sheet of white paper burned easily. So my love of sunburns didn't last long, but the damage was done. I have had three basal cell carcinomas & now speak out diligently about the use of Sun Protection. I wish every beauty creator started off their video and tutorial with SUNSCREEN being the first step to beautiful, healthy skin!
Me too!! Exactly the same with baby oil and even tea bags😩I can't even begin to remember how many times I've burned and now dearly paying for it too. I sound like a broken record to my kids and grandkids about constant usage of suncreen😊
This video will scare people into stocking up the sunblock and piling them on the skin. I have gone through several sunblock bottles ever since I watched my first Dr. Dray video, and they were the most satisfying self care expense of my life.
You’re so nice to educate us. My dermatologist barely speaks to me. 😆 I’m 52. I see her yearly. Hubby sees his dermatologist twice a year. She’s always freezing stuff off of him. Thank you for talking about vit D. My oldest daughter test below normal range on vit D. She supplement now with a gel pill.
Fair skin, sunburns when younger and never wore a hat, and AK developed in my late middle age. I’ve had it all, freezing, AD&C, and 5 months ago, Mohs surgery. I will never let my scalp be cut into or burned or frozen ever again. It's too unsightly. Currently looking into image guided SRT. My doctor gave me a script for 3% Diclofenac. If your AKs are flesh toned like mine, this gel that you put on for approx. 3 months, twice a day, at least in my case, helps with AK. I’m surprised Dr. Dray didn’t mention it.
I'm 41 years old now and all through my teens and twenties and thirties I was pretty careless and didn't use sunblock. by trade I'm a tractor-trailer driver so my left arm and my left hand are always exposed to the sun recently I noticed some weird growth on my left hand on the top. Finally went to the dermatologist they found basal cell carcinoma on my shoulder which was a little spot scaly about the size of a dime that I had scraped and I had some of this keratosis on my left hand that they used liquid nitrogen I believe I have to go back and get it done again but either way I'm a lot more conscious now of my skin than I was just a few months ago I wish I could go back in time and start over but we can't
Thank you for explaining this subject so clearly Dr Dray. I have had lesions of this type removed from the top part of my ears already and my dermatologist insists on a full body check at least once a year or whenever I go and see her for something else. I know better now what she fears for the future! I used to be dilligent with sun protection but I used to wear caps, not hats, ignoring that the top of my ears were thus exposed. Now, all the people around me have to put sunscreen on, renew the application often and use sunscreen even when the sun is not shining, which can be often in Belgium ;-) Now, thanks to you, I will wear sunscreen even during winter. Thanks again.
I have these all the time on my forehead and arms. Just had a bunch treated and one basal cell removed. Thank you for this video!!! I really appreciate it ❤️
Congrats on 400k doc! Thank you for making dermatology accessible to so many people worldwide. Everything you do is so appreciated. Have a wonderful Saturday, best wishes!
Just was diagnosed with Actinic Keratosis last week by my dermatologist. Two nickel size spots an inch under each eye. Thinking about the gel and laser light option as I don't want scars under my eyes. Thanks for such valuable in-depth information as it will hopefully help younger adults wear more sunscreen so they can avoid these AK's in the future and it has helped me decide the best treatment. Don't ask how many times I've burned my skin over the years but certainly not in the past 20. However the damage has been done. So now I'm taking the Nicotinamide 500mg twice a day. Also using organic Castor Oil. Put it in my coffee in morning with my MCT oil (creamer) and a dab of butter, oh and a dash of tumeric - cheers! Thanks doc x
My Dad has had several of these in the past and were removed. He does have slight scars. It was a major wake up call for me to stop trying to tan my skin!!
I just went through Levulan Kerastick treatment on my arms and face this Spring. It was very effective. Definitely uncomfortable and limiting for a short period but well worth it. You are right, wear that sunscreen because treating the damage later in life is not a cheap or fun process. But I am grateful there is a treatment for the AKs. Thanks for making this informative video.

Hi Dr. Dray, could you please do a zero or minimal waste skin care/hair care video or recommend a brand? I'm trying to make the switch but I find the Lush skincare that is zero waste is full of fragrance.
HI! Good luck to all those who are suffering from this problem. It must be very difficult to accept when it comes to our appearance. Many of us knew the time when we didn't talk about the importance of sunscreens. Today we talk a lot about prevention so young people no longer have excuses, they must seriously think about taking care of their skin. It is absolutely necessary to break the myth that we are more beautiful when we have a sheer complexion. I too have long believed in this. But now I understand that it's for my health. I developed an allergy to fragrances and problems with allerggies with fragrances and It's not always funny. If Dr. Dre's good advice can help you avoid certain skin diseases, please follow these recommendations. Here in Quebec, doctors prescribe vitamin D to all women 50 years of age and older. Very important video! Thank you!
I get these on the backs of my hands and scrape off the scaly bits and then apply Tea Tree Oil several times a day. Works wonders. I have started wearing sun gloves in addition to long sleeve shirts and a wide-brimmed straw hat as a precaution.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I requested you talk about this topic a few months back. I so appreciate the education and wealth of information. Great job. I'm heading to the dermatologist for a consult.
Thank you for the explanation about vitamin D and sunshine. I've always worried about the risk involved with sun exposure. I take vitamin D3 supplements because I never go out without sunscreen. :)
Very informative content, and great delivery. I mean, absolutely no personal disrespect, but it really gets to me when I hear medical professionals talk about something being uncomfortable. I know that’s what they teach you to say and often times what the literature says. I also realize you don’t want to scare potential patients. But let’s face it, lots of things are or can be downright painful, sometimes almost unbearable. Thank you and stay well.
My teenage son is really struggling with acne. I’d love to see a video for teen acne and some skin care recommendations for teens. Clearly, with teenagers, the fewer steps the better.
Thanks Doc. Just had this a precancerous cell removed from my lip. Not fun, but a whole lot better than it being BCC or squamous. Just had it frozen off with Cryogenic gun. Crazy, because for many years I thought what I had on my lip was a cold sore. A scab and splitting of lips just kept coming back. Glad I got it looked at.
Dr.dray.Could you please do a video about when we have to pay close attention to skin abnormalities can be moles, warts, sensitive scalp, etc. Thank you for you educational videos.💐😘
Hoping you’ll see this and can respond. What brand of B3 was used in the study? I’m going to start it, but I quickly got confused by the hype from the brands. Thank you again!
I had picato treatment on my forehead. Did the job. What I didn’t anticipate was the pain and disfigurement (I looked like I had blowtorched my face) and needed to take a few days off work. Thanks for the video 💋
Sue Mitchell - yes! But Google images first to see what you’re in for. It actually smoothed the skin on my forehead like I’d had a peel (which essentially I did!). It hurts then it heals 💋
Press release 17/01/2020 EMA is recommending that patients stop using Picato (ingenol mebutate), a gel for treating the skin condition actinic keratosis, while it continues its review of the medicine’s safety.
Very informative! This is good to know because so many things can show up on our skin and it can be difficult to know when you should see a doctor or not. I've found 3 of my doctors over the years to be very condescending when it comes to questioning something that has appeared on my skin. Laughing and saying "everybody thinks they have skin cancer" or "Do you spend a lot of time on WebMD". I have melanoma on both sides of my family! I really hate needing a referral to see a specialist because it can just be so difficult to get.
Actinic Keratosis can't only be caused by sunlight. I have naturally tanned Hispanic skin and work in an office and only get about 3 minutes of sun a day. Walking from the car to my house. I don't do any outdoor things. I get these once in a while anyway
Hi dr dray , Thks for given this video. I wrote to you a while ago about this same condition , I was diagnosed a few years ago. But since am watching you, and using cerave and of course using sunblock every day I look pretty much better. Keep up , so happy u are there.
Any ideas welcome: I was diagnosed with actinic keratosis and had photo dynamic therapy 2 years ago and was blown away at the results! I’ll most likely do it again next year. Question: I’ve been following Dr. Dray for almost 2 months and am addicted in a good way to sunscreen, have a driving jacket and gloves, do all the things. Is there a specific day/night routine of products that I can put on my forearms to continue to heal the damage that wants to creep back in? Specific to AK, what should I do and not do?
I had a solar keratosis on my arm removed by my general practitioner in the UK, by freezing. She also noted one on my back, but said it needed further evaluation. I then moved to Portugal, and my GP said I needed an appointment with a dermatologist, I've been waiting two years now!
I see the dermatologist in about 6 weeks. Interesting thing about the UV idea, my back has never been exposed to UV for any length of time and I have never had sunburn on my back!
I went a year ago and saw someone at our doctors she wasn’t very nice and said it was Aclinic keratosis and I had to use a cream which will make it blister up and be very painful. As it’s on the tip of my nose and was tiny but now it’s much bigger and keeps scabbing up and bleeding. She said they are freezing them anymore but I was surprised to see you had that done. I have always covered my face and worn hats but maybe the brim of hats didn’t cover the top of my nose. I am. Ow asking for another opinion.
I was told to use diclofenac on my face due to sun damage.I’ve had a dark area on my temple for two years and it was gradually getting bigger. Anyway I used it for ten days and results were amazing.
Interesting, thanks. I have not heard of Picato Gel. My doc prescribed Fluoro/Calcip creme, combo of 2 drugs, 3 days twice per day. Very effective, I was impressed
Thank you so much Dr. Dray for up to the minute sensible information as always. I will be sharing this with my red-haired siblings some of whom have already been treated with Efudex. I've really upped my sunscreen game thanks to you. Currently trying the Hada Labo sunscreen and liking it very much.
I’m a pale skinned redhead and have LOTS of these on my face and arms. I’ve had cryotherapy on some of my arm ones which left huge pale scars and some of the lesions came right back, in the middle of the scar. I want to get the ones on my face treated and heard that chemical peels and lasers can be effective, but you didn’t mention these as treatments. In your opinion are these options for effective treatment of these lesions?
Went to dermatologist for suspicious spot on back. They did full body scan. They weren't worried about the thing on back, but they didn't like the thing on arm. Been there about 10 yrs. dark pink round, size of dime. About a yr ago split part way apart and widened at split. Punch biopsy showed squamous cell carcinoma, early stage. They scraped it off with curette and burned edges. Recheck in 6 mos. Born in 44, spent all summers on beach all day till about age 20, no sunscreen then. I think they said the thing on back is actinic keratosis or seborrheic keratosis.
Thank you!!! I am pretty sure I have two on my forehead… I have been worried cause I noticed them both randomly one after the other. Now I have to go get checked
Thanks! I understand AK much better. I had my GP put liquid nitro on the one on my scapula. A few months later the itching was still driving me crazy. I visited a dermatologist in Mexico who diagnosed it! He also put liquid nitrogen on. Six months later the itching is back! Do I need to have this excised now?
@@jt8142 I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Hind sight is 20/20, unfortunately most people don't believe that they need to protect their skin each and every day.
Well this is troubling, I possibly have one of these on my shin. I will book in a skin check and get it looked at. Thank you for your informative video Andrea.
@@DrDrayzday I think I may have one of these, but I can't get in to a dermatologist until next year (they're all booked up). I'm not sure what to do... is it ok if these things wait 5 months to start treatment?
Thank you so much for very informative video, I just got diagnosed to fade with Actinic keratoses inside my eyebrow and they freezed it. I wanted to ask do I need to wear sun cream even indoors now? I live in UK and it is raining 90% of the times. If yes what sun cream brand do you recommend for very oily acne skin? Also I have lots of hormonal issues and I am a bit worried about the dioxins in the creams ❤many thanks
Can you make a video about Isdin Eryfotona Actinica Sunscreen? Someone from a dermatologists office recommended it and it reportedly repairs DNA damage. The research seems to be there but I’d love to know your thoughts. I bought it and really like it so far but I wonder if it does what it claims. It has fragrance in it but I can’t tell from the smell. What do you think?!
Dr dray, I ordered a sunscreen from Japan but the mailman left it in my mailbox. when I got to it, it was warm to the touch. Does that mean it isnt as effective?
Off topic but what do you recommend to remove sunscreen at the end of the day? Or if you have a video that covers that question? I just started watching your videos and value the information you share with us. Thank you!
Thank You Dr. Dray, I really enjoy your videos, very helpful and informative. You look amazing and your skin always looks like it glows. Thank You for your time and sharing products, since I been watching I have been able to throw out a lot of products that don't help. I have just a simple amount of face products that you highly recommend. I truly love my new regiment of face products and I now use a high spf sunblock. Thank You for inspiration to a Healhier lifestyle inside and out.
This is a continual problem for me, thank you for discussing it! I'm currently using Picato on my face, it's not the first time I've had to. I've also has squamous and melanoma in situ. I'm paying the price, in my 60's, for the sunbathing I did in my teens and 20's. I'm a devout sunscreen user now!
I have spent months researching best natural treatment for chicken skin and discovered an awesome resource at Keelee Remedy System (google it if you're interested)
I am so grateful that you made this video. I am a maker of these dreadful things. Also other skin things. Think I must head to a local dermatologist as soon as I can. Thank you.
Hi Dr Dray a dermatologist here in a private hospital the UK has just told me they would use photodynamic therapy cream method for treating some sunspots I have on my face. Is this a better, safer method or is laser better? We cannot get hydroquinone here. I chose the hospital as unsure who else to safely go to.
My wife broke out with a rash and they could not find the cause. They did find her vitamin D was 18, once she supplemented the rash went away. I had a spinal lipoma that was affecting my legs and making them go numb. I thought if she was low , I probably was. I started Vitamin D 5k IU daily then went up to 10k and my lipoma went away. I stopped taking and it comes back. I have pictures on my channel. I love Vitamin D, it gave me back my life.
Please please please review pursitry and 100% Pure products!! I love your advice and I am looking to find a balance between good effective skincare and safe ingredients
Caitlin Gruber: Puristry sure has a slick website to highlight its expensive products. I looked up the ingredients on many of them and they contain a lot of botanicals and fruit extracts, which can be problematic as they’re common irritants/allergens. Total pass; I wouldn’t use it on my skin, especially as there are (more) effective lesser priced brands.
Caitlin Gruber: As Dr Dray often says, natural doesn’t mean safer. Don’t fall for the current, trendy marketing terms, “clean, “green,” “natural” which aren’t backed by science. Companies are using these terms to convince/con you into buying their skincare products.
J T well that’s why I’d love a review! As people argue that the chemicals found in regular products are not as dangerous in small quantities so of course there is the counter argument that the same applies to these botanicals. I’d like to hear about their products to see if there are any that are good as I prefer a more natural approach and haven’t had any issue with them myself. I have no experience with puristry only 100% pure.
Hi Dr Dray, my mom got diagnosed with Actinic Keratosis and she is using 5-Fluorouracil cream. Although, she is unsure about the quantities she needs to apply. We are wondering if she is applying too much. Does it needs to be applied the same way as sunscreen? My mom leaves a very thick white cast on her forehead, and I think it is to much. Do you have any thoughts about this?
I had skin cancer on my nose. Treated with cryotherapy. Now I have these keratosis things removed. They itch and flake. But i really want to help my skin to prevent them. I had it treated several times. Its a bit scared but better then having to have moe’s.
Can you do a separate video about oral supplementation for skin vs topical application? Niacinamide/B3 applied topically and taken orally seems helpful. What about for collagen synthesis? Vitamin C, Omega 3, hyaluronic acid?
Blaire 101: Treatments such as BB Glow Facial have not been clinically studied or reviewed by the FDA. It is touted as a semi-permanent makeup “treatment” or others call it semi-permanent foundation, semi-permanent BB cream, or a facial tattoo. Either way, this is not skincare, which is the focus of Dr Dray’s channel.
J T okaay sorry for asking, I still think it's a good idea for Dr Dray to do a video on these kinds of "treatments" not just the bb glow, and give her dermatology based advice on weither they are beneficial or not, given it's her field to study the skin and its health.

My teenage son is really struggling with acne. I’d love to see a video for teen acne and some skin care recommendations for teens. Clearly, with teenagers, the fewer steps the better.
Dr. Dray, Thank you for this very informative video. I am wondering if TCA peels are also a treatment for AK.
Very important video. I've been hoping you would address the vitamin D issue. You leave no stone unturned. Thank you!
angelina pirkle: Type “Dr Dray Vitamin D” in the UA-cam search bar to find other videos where she discusses vitamin D.
JT Thank you! I haven't had a chance to watch them all yet. I don't know how she finds the time to do a video every day but I'm glad she does!
Thank you for not scaring me when researching this condition. You made my fear disappear 😊

Did it work and calm down I may have to use it.
Sue Mitchell - yes! But Google images first to see what you’re in for. It actually smoothed the skin on my forehead like I’d had a peel (which essentially I did!). It hurts then it heals 💋
Thanks for info.
Press release 17/01/2020
EMA is recommending that patients stop using Picato (ingenol mebutate), a gel for treating the skin condition actinic keratosis, while it continues its review of the medicine’s safety.
S A Whaley Thats pretty rude of those doctors to say that. I would find another dermatologist.
@@wap9137 these were not dermatologists. These were my regular doctors that I needed to see first to get a referral to a dermatologist.
S A Whaley I see. Well, theyre too big for their britches.
Maybe you should ask those doctors what the cap is on their malpractice insurance!
Actinic Keratosis can't only be caused by sunlight. I have naturally tanned Hispanic skin and work in an office and only get about 3 minutes of sun a day. Walking from the car to my house. I don't do any outdoor things. I get these once in a while anyway
Same here. .. Even few minutes of sun exposure will develop AK. But only with the sun exposure. But applying suncreen can avoid this issue,
My derm told me I have several small seborrheic keratoses on my thighs but didn't tell me how to treat it... can you tell us how you would treat?
Hi dr dray , Thks for given this video. I wrote to you a while ago about this same condition , I was diagnosed a few years ago. But since am watching you, and using cerave and of course using sunblock every day I look pretty much better. Keep up , so happy u are there.
:)
I recommend looking into natural solutions that are more gentle like Kigelia skincare cream: Give it a try!

Any ideas welcome:
I was diagnosed with actinic keratosis and had photo dynamic therapy 2 years ago and was blown away at the results!
TY, Dr. Dray! My father is bald and has a bunch of these on his exposed scalp. Off to the derm's office with him.
I recommend looking into natural solutions that are more gentle like Kigelia skincare cream: Give it a try! @t
Important question? Can these be caused by dental x-rays ? Please 🙏 let me know I would greatly appreciate your thoughts
Hello Dr. Dray. I was wondering if you need to when reapplying a chemical sunscrean, go inside and wait another 15 minutes for it to be effective?
Abigail RR no you don’t. Just reapply wherever you are
Dr. Dray should be on every panel, board, and tv show. Except she's too honest, and would cause the big business that is US healthcare to lose money.
Thank you a bazillion.... I went in for examination and cryotherapy because of this!
Can tretinoin help get rid of actinec keratosis/precancer cells?
Dr Dray? What is your data on the effectiveness of Tea Tree Oil for Actinic Keratosis?
Hello Dr. Dray, I appreciate your video's. I want to know if Red Light Therapy could help with this problem?
Thank you for the video. Do you have any specific sunscreen recommendations for people who already have Actinic keratoses ? Thanks.
Very important information today,. l hope those who haven't been using sunblock, will now start to use it every day sun or clouds.
Happy Friday 😊🍁
@@jt8142 I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Hind sight is 20/20, unfortunately most people don't believe that they need to protect their skin each and every day.
Well this is troubling, I possibly have one of these on my shin. I will book in a skin check and get it looked at. Thank you for your informative video Andrea.
thanks for watching
@@DrDrayzday I think I may have one of these, but I can't get in to a dermatologist until next year (they're all booked up). I'm not sure what to do... is it ok if these things wait 5 months to start treatment?
I watch your every video! It is great to learn about dermatology. Thank you for being a light in the darkness🙌🏻💞🥰
Dr Dray can you make a video on lip discoloration and how we can correct it at home or at least stop it from getting worse. Please.
Would the field treatments work for seborrheic keratosis as well?
Saraheeeeeee: Did a dermatologist recommend it or just someone in the office (that is instructed to upsell products for the business)?
Thank you for explaining such important topics. Are moles on the lip more risky for skin cancer?
Dr dray,
I ordered a sunscreen from Japan but the mailman left it in my mailbox. when I got to it, it was warm to the touch. Does that mean it isnt as effective?
Dr. Dray, can early AKs turn up as red blotches on the scalp, without the raised/crusty element? Wonderful video!
I'm a devout sunscreen user now!
never too late for spf
Same here!!! Sunscreen for me!!
I recommend trying Kigelia skincare cream, which a gentle natural solution: kigeliasuncare.com
I had two cryotreatments, but they came back both times. Similar to warts, cryo doesn't always work.
sorry to ask again but please could you review dr sams new night serum with retinol, cant wait for this review !
Hi Dr. Dray, just wondering if you could discuss hemangiomas in one of your upcoming Friday Q & A videos!
I have spent months researching best natural treatment for chicken skin and discovered an awesome resource at Keelee Remedy System (google it if you're interested)
Excellent coverage of educational info for the community 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This video is the perfect combination of information and beauty. Thank you!
Wondering if treatment of BCC with Alderra cream is as effective as MOHS surgery.
I am so grateful that you made this video. I am a maker of these dreadful things. Also other skin things. Think I must head to a local dermatologist as soon as I can. Thank you.
thanks for watching :) Happy Friday!
Thanks for information so valuable.
I have had that treatment on arms very affective.
Thanks Jennifer 😊
Which treatment? Starting efudex soon, im scared. How painful was your treatment and how did your skin look when all done?
@@lynneburrell676 It is where they freeze a spot.
It dries up falls off not painful. Make sure a derm does procedure. Jennifer 🤩
Could retin a be used to prevent them from returning or forming more?
Hi Doc. I’ve used Aldara on my face for bcc’s in the past. I now have what looks like a bcc on my lips. Can I use Aldara cream on my lips?
Loved this video!!
Could you cover phytoceramides in a future video?
Thank you so much for doing this! Very helpful to me.
Thank you Dr. Dray! This was so interesting.❤️
Vitamin C, Omega 3, hyaluronic acid?
i have

What is your experience with Klisyri? Thank you.
hey dr Dray.
I was wondering, what are your thoughts on the bb glow treatment? is it safe to put foundation that deep into the skin for that long?
@@jt8142 it is not makeup, it's skin therapy, research it if you wanna know more.
Very interesting and informative. Congratulations on reaching the 4 K mark 🥰😇🐶
