At that time they were touring a lot and they visited countries where gay marriage wasn't accepted. Coming out as a gay man when you are at that level of fame is bad for your own safety because and they wouldn't have been able to go to those countries(or even go outside); which also affects their career. Idk, and correct me if I'm wrong but if they are gay (which they are), then maybe they will come out on the 28th of May 2020 because that's the 10 year aniversary of One Direction meaning that it's most likely the 10 year aniversary of Larry, idk why but I've always had a slight feeling about this happening, and it would honestly be so perfect if it was to happen then. When Harry said "we dont need the piece of paper from the city hall" might have been because there are many countries where you don't have the ability to be marry or even be gay and that it still is possible to be with the person you love, even if you have the same sex.
At that time they were touring a lot and they visited countries where gay marriage wasn't accepted. Coming out as a gay man when you are at that level of fame is bad for your own safety because and they wouldn't have been able to go to those countries(or even go outside); which also affects their career.
Either way I definitely assume they got married that day but I think he also implies that marriage isn't the most important thing for a relationship.

One of the top comments I get on my videos is "i wish they would come out and be free!!" but I think that's a little disrespectful towards them.
Coming out is a big, scary thing. Especially at that level of fame.
I doubt they'd be 'free' when they do decide to come out, think of all the extra security etc.
As much as I'd like to think this world is lgbtq friendly, it really isn't.
They would probably receive an incredible amount of hate from ignorant homophobes when coming out and it would be even harder for them to go outside and live a somewhat normal life.
My biggest hope a few years ago was for them to just come out already, but the more I read actual coming out stories the less that urge got because I realized that coming out, in most cases, is worse than being in the closet.
At this point I just hope that they won't need to force relationships.

Harry cudve put 'meet me in NY' specially number 8 (so it coordinates with no. 2) both played at SNL on the same night. (few days before the 28th)
