I have had MS for 18 years. I am in awe of you, for your energy and enthusiasm, for your incredible journey in the wilderness! I think that MS has given me the gift of appreciating nature and the idea of creating my own pharmacy, as you have done.
Hi! Everything I do daily for MS is here in this blog: www.nicoleapelian.com/blog/manage-multiple-sclerosis/ I hope you find it helpful! All my best, - Nicole
Thanks for your reply, Nicole. I am a South African and loved to see you being out there with our precious Bushmen of the Kalahari, some years ago. Born and raised in SA, we did many bush trips to the Kalahari, Zim and Botswana. Indeed the bushmen are ever present in our culture, in rock paintings, in their extraordinary language. We revere them for their incredible art of hunting and being so uninvasive on our great continent. Whilst it is known that they smoked plants to be activated mentally, the sad truth now is that the live in a kind of a zoo and cannot resist alcohol!
you were my favorite on the Alone show! Your beauty, enthusiasm and positive attitude are unsurpassed, and your knowledge is astounding. I wish you all the best!
I love your passion for good health, the outdoors and holistic health and nutrition. Very inspiring! I hope at some point in the near future, I/we will learn more about food foraging for foods, herbs, and medicines, as it is an excellent pathway to better health and reconnecting with nature. We are hoping and planning to open an RV/Campground that will offer campers the opportunity to learn soil amendment, plant growing, natural plant defense (no pesticides) harvesting, canning and preserving. We will also teach permaculture, food forest, hugelkultur, greenhouse growing, and more. Thanks for the 'nuggets' of great info that you share
The tea looked great, the natural gathering was adventurous but your enthusiasm and compassion in this video really warmed me. Thx i will try and remember these herbs on my next hiking trip.
Could you also tell us the medicinal benefits of your wonderful tea? Thank you also I was cheering for you on alone. Sorry you had a relapse with the MS
Hi Nicole. I have just recently found your UA-cam videos as well as your website. Thank you so much for sharing the information on the way you choose to handle your ms symptoms. I too have ms. I was diagnosed ten years ago. My neurologist says my case is complex as I have several symptoms to treat. I have been on disability since 2006 and have treated my symptoms with a concoction of medications. Your website and videos are helping me to explore new ways to try and treat my symptoms and thank you for that. I was rooting for you to win on Alone and you proved the fact that ms doesn't have to hold you back from accomplishing your goals and ambitions. Thank you for being an inspiration for all of us who have ms.
All the very best you are a wonderful outstanding personality!!! Please keep on doing what you love!!!!!! Looking forward for your next video!!!! Thank you
Did you tell us how to identify the licorice fern? Maybe I missed that part. Either way wonderful knowledge I would love to find these ingredients and make some tea
Great video! My mother taught me about these ferns when I was a kid. We called them "Sissel's root" and it was like free candy. Also, thanks for being on Alone!
Great information! I love white and red pine needle tea and now I will be looking for some of that fern to add to it. Thanks for sharing! I love the attitude and your smile is awesome.
does licorice have the same laxative effect as fennel? if so, what is a good tea to make when I person has ibs-d? ty and love the doggie and you rocking the video.
Your an inspiration Nicole. Just tried a slight variant of your tea here in the highlands of Scotland. Delicious. Lust what the Doctor ordered... Like and Subscribed...
I'm sure your busy. but would absolutely love it if you could do more video like this. I'm so eager to learn to use plants as food and medicine. haven't been able to find a local expert here in central Kentucky to learn from.
I just started watching ur videos, they are so interesting! In Hawaii, we look forward to the spruce trees arriving during Christmas! LOVE their scent and now we can use their tips for tea!! I usually cut off some branches and keep the wreath for months so we're able to enjoy the scent!! Will look for the licorice fern. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Lovely basket Nicole :) I live on the East Coast of Canada, and I find it quite interesting to see the diverse flora found in other parts of the world. Thank you so much for this video, and best of luck to you in the ALONE Show... I'm a big fan :)
You're the best! Getting your book one day soon 💖💖💖💖 i didn't know you had a youtube!!! I loveee thissssss! Haha i wish you would be my guide for a week 💖💖💖💖💖💖
You showed us licorice fern root and briefly pointed to sword fern. I'm from Maine and would appreciate knowing the difference between them. Thank you. I am incredibly appreciative of the information!
Wonderful! I tried to distribute information about your work. Some areas may be a little difficult regarding foraging for a number of reasons. I read that Purslane is a good source for Omega-3. I do not know how well Purslane compares to Flaxseed. Thank you for sharing informative and helpful videos!
I hope to get to know you over the next few months. Your adventure was/is beyond what I can do (many broken body pieces: . Good luck girl in a retrospective sort of way.
I'm wondering if we have similar plant in N.Georgia (Blairsville)?? I could almost taste that tea! Thank you Nicole! We are grateful for you, your knowledge, and awesome spirit.
Beautiful country out there. I hope to visit the PNW someday. Have you ever tried sassafras root tea? My mom told us that when she was a girl, her mom would give the whole family at least a cup a day for at least a week as a spring tonic, to "sweeten" their blood after the winter doldrums. God bless Ron
Good video, found you via my Bushcraft friends. I heard you were on S2 of ALONE and everyone is allowed to discuss it now, you sound almost Canadian, but you are not LOL, or it would be hard to choose btw you and my friend Larry Roberts haha!! Greetings from Canada -- Ontario. That is the stuff I was out gathering in part in my area 60 days ago, when a car hit me on the way home, they were not paying attn and now I am pretty injured and cannot walk or do much of anything. I will see you this year on the show!
I am sure you hear this alot, but you have become a hero of sorts for me. I am also dealing with the MonSter and am turning back to my roots in the Missouri Ozarks and the plants my father and family friends taught me about for help alleviating symptoms. When I first saw you on alone and listened to your story and watched as you gathered plants I literally broke down and cried. I felt so alone in my battle and now I feel like I'm not the only one. someone else is out there and feels some of the things I feel physically and still fighting the good fight I will be following your videos and blogs, and I do of course have one question; will you be or have you covered what natural plants and mushrooms help with different symptoms of MS? I am looking forward to reading and watching and learning. Thank you for your time on Alone and sharing your alone time now your back home.

Hi Dean. No book out but my website - www.nicoleapelian.com - has a lot of info re MS there and the herbs and supplements I take. If he has questions please have him ask me....
Wow thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I wasn't even for sure I would hear back. I just figured you're flooded with messages from people. I will get the website to him immediately. Thank you so very very much and if he has questions I will tell him to contact you.
Very interesting video thanks! Very nice boots in this clip! Are you wearing Xtratuf boots there? Would love to buy some, are they comfy and how long do they last? How do the sizes come? Thanks
Hello Hans! I am wearing Xtra Tuffs here. They are the old American-made ones and are like slippers :-). I bought mine in 1994 when I was working up in the Bering Sea. Nowadays they are made in China and they are not as good. I would no longer recommend them (unless you can get your hands on an old American-made pair - mine are 22 years old!). Now I wear Lacrosse rubber boots. They have a great selection...check out their hunting boots. I especially like their Alphaburly line. Here's a review I did on the pair I wore on Vancouver Island (and still wear): ua-cam.com/video/rAH5sMVMxi0/v-deo.html I hope that helps! - Nicole
I've been enjoying your videos, Nicole. I would like to know what natural substances you are using specifically for your MS. If you have a video or link already made, I'd appreciate it if you would post it for me. I have a friend with MS. I have Lupus and am trying to find natural alternatives to treat it. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. We all fell in love with you on, Alone.

Great Video! I'm taking a trip to Vancouver in about 3 weeks for my cousins wedding. If I get a chance to go on a west coast hike I will definitely try to remember licorice fern root. Is it pretty plentiful in that region or do you have to look hard to find it? Here in Saskatchewan we only have spruce trees and not licorice fern.
I love the PNW! The coast and I-5 corridor gets a lot of rain...for sun go east of the mountains...both are superbly beautiful (and full of wild places :-)).
Yup, in early Winter I like to make a hemlock tea (from the tree, not the plant) I always say it's like sipping a little bit of Christmas because it reminds me of the smell of a Christmas tree.
Nice to meet you just bought 2 of your books. Just started making salves and tintures

It's very plentiful here...and you only need a little bit of it. A little nibble is s great palate cleanser as well as using it in tea.
Looked tasty does that fern grow in Idaho?
I believe so!
That's great. I love herbal teas 😋
So, you don't recommend washing the herbs or roots from dirt, before adding them to the water to make tea?
If they are dirty, sure. If I pick from a clean area I don't always wash them when I use them for myself....
@@NicoleApelian Thanks!
More videos please.
Is blue spruce ok?
You are my hero :)
Do you think Oregon is a good place to live? I want to get a place where I have daily access to Nature.
I love the PNW! The coast and I-5 corridor gets a lot of rain...for sun go east of the mountains...both are superbly beautiful (and full of wild places :-)).
Can licorice ferns cause high blood pressure?
Can you have your own TV Show please??
Doesn’t putting it in boiling water destroy the vitamin C?
Awesome video.Great info. You are making a wonderful, healthy tea but your pot looks like it might be teflon coated. That gives me concern for you.
Love pine needle tea now to see if we have licorice fern in the Ozarks were i live. Great video Oregon is so beautiful my dad lives there.
Anything for acid reflux
Hey great video.
+TJack Survival - Thanks so much for the feedback!
Ya it's good to learn more about areas you are not familiar with. The Pacific coast is one of them for me.
+TJack Survival Agreed.

That dirt contains minerals and good bacteria and viruses, so I would just wash it.☺️
Thank you for everything!
You are one of the richest people on the planet, you can feed yourself from the raw ground.
