It's an experience for the child to learn to be self-sufficient, not the family. Families make experiences every day in every way, and they don't cry about it. It is wonderful for boys who do not have a prosperous male influence so they can learn about hammers, saws, etc.
Re Eurovision contestant. So many contestants on "talent" shows sing out of tune. As a professional musician, it honestly hurts my ears. Yet, the bozo judges - rarely with any musical credentials - think they are great. 😮
I'm so relieved that you are having the same experiences as me. I've been worried about my hearing, thinking it's failing because I'm getting older!!! I'm not a musician but I love music .

Total ignorance on Hadrian’s wall ado about nothing. I am not even British and revere the Roman ruins. The Roman wall in London’s financial district is such an amazing reminder of Roman brilliance in engineering. I know that in the USA, there has been a continuing drive to irradiate western civilization which started in the 70’s. As a Greek, I especially take offense to that. I am beginning to welcome robots instead of people as the new generation has devolved into a bunch of goofballs!

Right Mr Graham, please allow me to "educate" your goodself. Berwick-on-Tweed is wholly in England, not half in Scotland as you seem to be under some misapprehension of it being so. The border is 6 or 7 mile up the road just past Marshall Meadows, and doesn't reach the Tweed for a similar distance West.

Alex Phillips' comments and observations might be better received if she would please calm down and stop screeching, gurning and interrupting others. So much of what she says is sensible. It's the presentation which lets her down.

They still have Girl Scouts, but they are in worse shape. One of my friends was the development director for Girl Scouts and didn't last long. She was not happy with the organization. This Scouting America is an attempt to grab the girls who want to do more and learn more skills that Girl Scouts does not provide. I was a Brownie back in the day, but neither I nor my sisters lasted in Girl Scouts. It was singing songs and selling cookies. I do support any Girl Scouts selling cookies, and I hope they are learning more about self-sufficiency than we did back then. It was rather lame back in the day, where my brother at least learned how to pitch a tent and built a pinewood derby car.

Agree with Mike and his closing comment: it’s not parents’ sole responsibility to solve family problems, or challenges as the Gen Zs call them. Charles has had a basinful, and I can identify with him.
