    If you didn't have the u-bolts on the yoke to install your drive shaft, you wouldn't be able to install it with the bearing cups on. Some yokes are like the driveshaft in which you have to install the u-joint bearing cups after you put the u-joint into the yolk, then install the clips to hold the cups in place. That's why they didn't press the cups on for you; because you'd be screwed (or at least inconvenienced) if your yoke wasn't the bolt on type.

      I do, thank you. At one point, if I can find any 5-speed in my country, I will try and swap my AT-545, or at least have it in reserve.

    That's a big project and I'm enjoying watching your videos. I don't know what to say about the bad carrier bearing, but I wouldn't beat up on the driveline shop for not pressing the cups on. If you have solid yokes (the kind without the straps) then those cups get pressed in from the outside after you put the spider (cross piece) in place...so it's normal to leave them loose so you don't have to try and pry them off. Of course, it would have been nice if they'd asked you what kind you had. :-)

      Thanks for keeping up with us bud!
      I know I know, I didn't wanna be so harsh. The owner of the place with 55yrs of experience didn't even look at the job his young worker performed. It went out the door without any quality inspection. On the flip side, parts were over $400 so this shop did the job for just a little over $100 of labor which YA GET WHAT YA PAY FOR. The second shop that claimed the newly installed carrier bearing was bad, says this happens somewhat frequently that a bearing isn't quite to spec. It doesn't press down into place like it should & moves on the shaft. I only believe them because in my A/C work I've come across many brand new thermostats that don't work, for every 100 or so you get one or two bad ones. So I had something to compare to.
      Thanks for the clarification on the yoke styles & big ol thanks for watching!

    I have a Brazilian ford 6.6L inline 6 bus with the Ppump style mechanical injection system.
    I am looking for at least 5 to 10 speed transmission models that would be a similar conversion, because I would love to have an Eaton 10spd in my bus.
    I drove truck for years but I didn't work on them really, so I'm starting from basic knowledge and a bit of car dealership apprentice experience.

    Fantastic Thorough video Bro !!! Answered sooooooo many questions for me. I've just bought a 2003 Freightliner FS65 with 24Valve Cummins and AT545. Like a dumbass, I made an assumption that it would be an MT643 or 2000 by the looks of the shifter. WRONG. Thankfully, at this current time the 545 is working fine and it's been rebuilt by the sticker on the side of it, but it is leaking from the access hole where that plug goes in the bell housing. So I'm going to guess it's a front seal. I want to convert either to manual or 2000. Since it's a 24Valve, the engine has a computer already along with TPS and all that, so a 2000 swap should not be to hard. But yeah, great video showing what it looks like under there and and behind the engine etc.

      Wow! You must’ve got one of the last ones in production in 2003!
      Transmission fluid was leaking from this same hole on mine, I brought this to many tranny shops and never got a straight answer.
      Thanks for watching & I’m happy you found value in it!! I love my manual now, 3k miles in. I’d suggest making sure you find something with overdrive, I still ended up with a final 1:1 gear ratio just like the 545.

    Hello again I see you're having problems with your U-joints, one thing I've learned throughout my life doing Automotive work and mechanical work is if you go cheap you get what you paid for, I know when you're on a budget it's hard to do, but every time I tried to save money I always ended up spending more money or getting frustrated. I'm glad you worked it out.

    • @parishskoolie

      Thanks for your input🥰
      You are correct!
      I’ve also had many hard lessons learned in the previous years. These were my first real ujoint swaps and some folks on UA-cam here have enlightened me on some of my complaints being a common practice. Not all, but some.
      The more expensive shop justified their prices with my lack of knowledge, in a wrist slapping kind of way so I wouldn’t have hired them if they were the only shop in town😂
      I’m glad we got it all worked out.
      4k+ miles since this video🤟🏻

    • @parishskoolie
      @parishskoolie  6 місяців тому

      I would definitely go 10spd next time. This transmission ended up not having OD. Which is okay, my other transmission was bad anyway. Can’t imagine I would use many gears about 7 with this 5.9 Cummins tho🤣

    Thanks for the video and all the much needed info. I totally understand your frustrations with the u joint caps. When you install u-joints, some yokes are made to have the caps pressed in They leave them unpressed so you don't have to pry them loose. Your u-joint guys did a good job it's just they are accustomed to dealing with companies and mechanics that have the experience installing u-joints and driveshafts. Having the right tools for the job is 90% of the job.

    • @parishskoolie
      @parishskoolie  2 роки тому

      Understand that! Like any great amateur it’s easiest to blame someone else😅
      Having the right tools is correct, did most of this job with a 3/8 racket & socket set. Wouldn’t recommend.

      We salvaged our rear chunk from the donor, but the donor is 4.33 & we are currently 4.63 so the difference was less than 100 rpm. We have 10r22.5 tires so the math from changing our tires vs changing the rear end was much better.
