Your father really worked with and knew these people. I read the biography of David Niven who lived with Errol Flynn, it is an amazing insight into those early days of Hollywood. It is so beautifully written I felt I had lost a friend when I finished it. He gives such charming descriptions of the people but also the entire feel of the place at that time and you feel like you are there. I'd love to be able travel back in time to that era. I bet the rap party for this movie was fun.
Always wanted to see this!! Loved Gold Diggers of '33 and 42nd Street. I imagine with the pairing of Cagney and Blondell that this is pretty awesome too!
Clip of a Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler scene at 1:27-1:33: "You tried to fool me?" "Mmm-hmm." "Ah, but what a change! You're beautiful and what a dancer!" "Mm-hmm" "Is that all you can say? 'Mmm-hmm'?" "Mmm-hmm" "Well how 'bout a little kiss then?" (leans towards her) (moves away) "Unnh-uh. I should say not." Classic lines. Why can't movies be like they used to be or even better why can't life be like that?
A shame that Jack Warner didn't really capitalize on Cagney's musical abilities & make more musicals starring him. Just like with Karloff & Lugosi typecast into horror genre, Cagney was typecast as a gangster, most of the time. What other great film might have been if Warner allowed Cagney to "shine" in other genres?
Can anyone help me? I love James Cagney and am trying to find a film he was in. I think it was in.colour. His character was a gangster /club owner he had a girl in the club singing but he's volatile and controls her..... Is this ringing any bells? I would really appreciate it if someone can help!
And to think a priest, Father Joseph Connor (aka Pierre Connor and Pierre Norman) wrote much of the lyric. He also wrote "When I Take My Sugar to Tea" and over 300 other tunes. He was the inspiration for Bing Crosby's Father O'Malley character in "Going My Way" and "The Bells of St. Mary's".
The trailer for this movie that Disney-MGM Studios used inside the queue for The Great Movie Ride was a lot better and more entertaining than this one. I wonder if Disney created that trailer especially for the ride?
For sure in this trailor, the kick ass scene came too soon, like if the character played by Blondell was a rude person, while she is a very sincere girl tricked by men and wonderful perverse Claire Dodd looking her down till came the revolutionary kick,
You’d better ! chuckle} They sure don’t make ‘em like this anymore, Leila! 👍👍👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. So many of the movies back then sure had real human class, eh? 😊 We’re lucky we still have ‘em.
"As long as they have sidewalks, you've got a job." Man I love pre-code films.
All I can say is Wow! Wow! Wow! A fantastic Hollywood Classic! A must see! David here I been a movie buff for over fifty years!🎥
"As long as they have sidewalks you have a job!" OOOOOOOOOOO!

The Roaring Twenties?
The movie was called Love me or Leave me 1955, Cagney and Doris Day. Yes in color and was cagney's last gangster role.
Listen, you cheap stenographer!
Best insult ever.
