These bikes are incredible. I was in London two weeks ago for the first time just for 3 days, first day we travelled with buses and undergeound, and on the second day we found out Santander Bikes. That was the last day we went with bus or underground :D We have seen the whole London in 2 days with bikes, and we rode over 40 kilometres every day. I totally recommend this way of London Transport. And what's more, most of the time it is even (much) faster than buses (specially in peak hours) So if you go to London, definitely try these bikes !
Hey, are there areas like bigger highways where you can't use them in central London? We are going to London this week and we also want to use bikes as our main transport :)
I did the exact thing on my lasst trip there (Sept 2017) and it was so fun. In the centre of the city you find a docking station every other corner, so taking a new bike every 30-ish minutes to avoid the addditional 2 pound works just fine! + it happens I got my first bike at the exact same station you showed on the vid haha
Your videos are a wonderful blessing! Can't wait to check out London, even more so, after viewing several of your videos. As a former NYC gal, I often wonder how NYC and London compare, so I find your perspective, and what you share valuable. Thank you for taking the time to do your videos - it's clear that you care. Your videos are accessible, easy-going, and actually there's a relaxing quality that makes your videos enjoyable! You do a great job! Again, thank you!!
Excellent video. Thanks, Jess! Bikeshare is definitely my favorite way to get around any city. A lot of cities use the same bikeshare vendor (Motivate) so the cool thing is that these tips apply in any city that uses them, although the pricing may be a little different.
Can't believe an American has more understanding than me on how the docking system works loooool. I've always known about docking the bikes before 30 minutes, but how to get another bike after that was were I always got stuck. I always thought I could use the same code, which never worked and I often gave up at that point. Now I know I just need to use the card I used to pay initially and I shouldn't be charged £2 again.
The last thing you said about biking on the street: "If you're back out on the streets, make sure you stay on the streets. If you cycle on the pavement, you could get a fine," was a bit confusing. Do Brits call sidewalks "pavement"?
I remember using the bikes when I went on holiday to London with my boyfriend back in April. I was having the time of my life only to turn around and see him wheezing behind me as his bike had a flat tire 😂
Thanks for creating this clear, easy to understand video. You mayy want to point out to people that are not bi-lingual (en-us:en-gb) that pavement (en-gb) means sidwewalk (en-us). Thanks again, your upbeat personality makes your videos fun to watch.
Isn't 2 pounds for every 30 mins expensive. Here in Bangalore, we have Yulu bikes, they're quite cheap comparatively, just 10 Rupees for an hour (0.11 Pounds). Cycling should be encouraged by the govt with lesser pricing to combat air pollution.
so if I use it for 29 mins and then I put it back, if I get a different bike right after, will I still have to pay £2 extra or can I just use it for 29 mins and not pay any extra
@@loveandlondon I've been wondering the same thing, thank you for this (5-minute wait) clarification & for so many other videos you've created! Just discovered your channel today & we've been planning our 1st trip for next month, you've been VERY helpful already!!
Hi, I'm travelling to London from NZ next month. I'm in London for 8 days. 1 day will be in Brighton and 1 day in Liverpool, so 6 days in London. I've pre-purchased the train tickets for these 2 days trips. My question is should I get an Oyster card with the 7 day travelcard or just get an Oyster card and top up as you go. All our travel plans will be in zone 1 & 2. What option will be the most cost effective please?
I am planning my tour to London. Does the machine accept visa debit card or rupay cards and in addition do we have to be member of it before we take the bike or just whoever with a debit card can rent it. Be quick to reply plz
You can just use any major credit or debit card. TfL doesn't say what they accept, but everywhere takes visa and MasterCard, many places take maestro and visa electron, some places accept Union pay, diner's club and American express, but very few take anything else
I have a question i hire bicycle other day I use my debit card I did return the bikes under 30 minute but after little while I try it the code it was invalid I did understand it 24-hour access for £2 If you return the bikes within 30 minute every time I use it in that day do I need to use my debit card will I be still charged £2 for 24-hour Under 30 minute it's free
Hi! Riding bikes seems like a perfect way to move around. Im going to London next summer to visit my best friend, sadly she doesnt know how to ride a bike lol. Do they offer like bikes for two people? thanks!
@@loveandlondon Thanks for the serious reply to my semi-serious question! I want to mod one of these bikes, I reckon the pedals can be changed with a pedal spanner. Of course I'll revert it to stock before docking it again! lol
Not fine but i imagine you will keep on being charged £2 for not docking it, as the system will assume you're cycling (it's monitoring how long you have been using the bike for)
The 'santander' bikes have really helped people get around London!
It's better than walking! 😁🚲
DoubleDeckerAnton didn’t expect to see you here like your videos

Thank you!!
Can e-bikes be ridden on pathways along the Thames?
Some areas it will be difficult or impossible, others yes
Yes another video!!!! Thanks Jess!
You’re so very welcome Kayla :)
The pricing is very confusing
Very informative , thank you!
Thanks for watching!
They're great, but I'd rather you could pay for just one journey if you want to and I think the 30 minute maximum kind of kills it
Can you adjust these bicycle seats according to your height and comfort?
You can!
It would be awesome if they had a few with kid seats.
Ok, so they are bikes to ride only. Having dinner or coffee somewhere will add to the price.
Yes, however you can park them up to do so :)
I have seen very few videos that can explain what they are trying to say so clearly.
Thanks for explaining its very interesting.

You can also get a key so you don’t have to line up and get a bike
Yup! Not an options for tourists though.
Thanks for the information, you really helped me

Lol, "bi-lingual." Thanks for watching!
love it . I really love london pleas make a video about southwark wharterloo and camdon market
So useful, thank you!
But can it be paid with Apple Pay/contactless?
I think some of the stations yes

You can use it for 29 mins and not pay any extra. but there's a 5 min waiting period to be able to get another bike out!

Good video. Great info that only one person in a group needs the app. Is the £2 daily fee per person, or per app user?
Per person :)
Also, you don't have to have an app to use the bikes. I mentioned the two apps just to help you find the bike stations.
Do you get a new ticket with different code each time you dock in the 24 hour period?
You do.
Hello, did the rules change since 2018?
Is necessary to wear protective gears? Like helmet? Or is it legal not to?
You’re supposed to but no one does :)
It's not the law or anything
I have a question i hire bicycle other day
I use my debit card I did return the bikes under 30 minute but after little while I try it the code it was invalid I did understand it 24-hour access for £2
If you return the bikes within 30 minute every time I use it in that day do I need to use my debit card will I be still charged £2 for 24-hour
Under 30 minute it's free
You need a new code every time you take a new bike :)
I'd like to rent 2 bikes at the same time. Will I pay for every bike that is borrowed after the first 2GBP even in the first 30 minutes?
£2 per bike for first 24 hours and then £2 per every additional 30 mins
I'm on a budget and I like to cycle. Also, can you ride to Trafalgar Square and the other major sites on these bikes?
You can ride on almost any road in London.
It's legal to ride on any road and there are bike stations everywhere
very good information thanks
Thanks for watching
Hi! Riding bikes seems like a perfect way to move around. Im going to London next summer to visit my best friend, sadly she doesnt know how to ride a bike lol. Do they offer like bikes for two people? thanks!
These are commuter-focused bikes, so no. Also I think both people have to know how to ride a bike if you do find a 2-person one :) be careful hehe
thank you so much for your comments and suggestions, you're so nice ^^
Can you get them with clipless pedals?
There's no clips on the pedals
@@loveandlondon Thanks for the serious reply to my semi-serious question! I want to mod one of these bikes, I reckon the pedals can be changed with a pedal spanner. Of course I'll revert it to stock before docking it again! lol
Honestly... the bikes are too heavy. I'd just google renting a roadbike
@@loveandlondon They're actually light compared to the beast I ride back home....
Is there any fine if we not park in docking??
Not fine but i imagine you will keep on being charged £2 for not docking it, as the system will assume you're cycling (it's monitoring how long you have been using the bike for)
I want to rent a bike where I can have 2 kids seat. Is there bikes available with kids seats attached?
Not these types of bikes!
Can you put it back at the same place
As long as there is an open dock, then yes!
Do these bikes come with helmets?
Hey Todd, they don't. You'd have to bring your own if you want to wear one.
People would only nick em
I would be terrified to use the bikes in London with all that traffic.
There are scary roads, but there are some very nice parks with safe, separate lanes
For buying the bike how much cost sister
You can't buy them.
Is there any speed limits
Not for bikes
Am I the only one wayyyy to scared to bike in Ldn? Really wish I had the courage
Just do it :) Find quiet streets to start
Stalk a cyclist. That's what I did. 😂
Can a tourist use Oyster card to rent the bicycle?
No you can't! Has to be debit or credit card
Is helmet important?
Ppl don't wear them really
hello i was only riding these bikes for a little over an hour but i ended up paying 10£
only credit cards? Like everyone has one nowadays... that sucks.
Yeah, it's because they will charge you £100 if you don't return the bike.
I've used debit cards on there...
If you have a bank account you will have a card, they all offer debit cards.
Why cant you pay by coins
Because they need your card in case you never return the bike.
Thank you
you're welcome!
how is she from london she has an American accent
London has many people with accents from all over the world...
How come I'm living in Wales if I have an English accent🙄
