  • Marine EOD technicians are crucial to victory, and they have a critical job to perform: they’re trained to locate, identify, neutralize, and dispose of live ordnance, including chemical or nuclear hazards and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Unlike many other MOS designations, Marines cannot be selected for EOD as recruits. Only Marines who have reached the rank of corporal and display a high level of maturity and discipline may volunteer for this MOS and earn the opportunity to serve on the EOD team.

About the United States Marine Corps:
The Marine Corps defends the people of the United States at home and abroad. Within every Marine is the willingness to engage and determination to defeat any adversary, and it is this fighting spirit that allows us to fight and win our Nation’s battles.
The mission of the United States Marine Corps is made up of three promises: We make Marines, we win our Nation’s battles, and we develop quality citizens prepared to fight and win battles.
You don’t join the Marines-you become one, forged in the crucible of training aboard our recruit depots on Parris Island, South Carolina, and in San Diego, California, or through the dedication required of officer candidates at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. Beyond the physical requirements, aspiring Marines must prove they have the honor, courage, and commitment to face and defeat any obstacle.
Today, more than 180,000 enlisted Marines and 23,000 Marine Officers serve in active duty or reserve forces on bases and in communities around the world, proudly carrying with them the core values of the Marine Corps.

Is Ground Ordnance Maintenance and EOD the same MOS?

The Ground Ordnance Maintenance field is responsible for inspecting, repairing and maintaining the weapon systems in the Marine Corps. Marines in the Ammunition and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) field are trained to handle hazardous materials and to disarm explosives. Learn more here: usmarin.es/P4Sp1X

I know a guy who claims he did this. I don't have a reason to doubt it. But he said he also fought in battled in Afghanistan. Do EOD guys also fight in battles or go on missions?
Do you start in infantry and then go out to fight n battles, but can graduate to EOD later?
I just want to make sure this guy is telling me the truth.

It's a whole different m.o.s. than being an 0311... (infantryman)

So is there a possible way that an infantryman could go on missions and be in a firefight then transer to this job in Afghanistan?

You have to go to eod school. You don't just lat move into eod in theater and the, be an eod tech. No. That's not to say that eod techs haven't seen combat while outside the wire. They have one of the most dangerous mos' around. All insurgents want to kill bomb breakers. But a lat move in theater to an mos you know nothing about is absolutely impossible. That sounds suspect as fuck. And always remember engineers are not eod. No matter what they say they're still shitter builders.

Greg Wagner What is a shitter builder?
YEs, it does sound suspect. That is what I was thinking. I think he is lying about going into battles where he is shooting guys. I know he did get a purple heart because a bomb blew up. He showed me his marine ID and the purple heart card. He has a huge USMC tattoo on his back. Anyway he is about 25 and he is no longer in the marines or enlisted so I think something happened where he was not allowed back due to whatever circumstances and he is trying to make himself sound more important than he is. I met this guy in Korea.
He also seemed to think he could go onto the Army Base in Itaewon ANY time he wants and also bring me as a friend. I thought that was odd. How can you just go onto a base if you are not currently active let alone an army base when you are a Marine. Very weird. I no longer live in Korea and am back in the USA.
Also he posted a document certificate about being honorably discharged or retired on his facebook. He said "Well it's official!" What is weird is why would he say "It is official" as if he just had gotten it when he had been an English teacher for awhile in Korea. I thought you got the paper right away at the base. I asked him about it and he got super pissed off.

It's rare but yes. You don't just get out of boot camp and get to be an eod tech though. I think you have to be Sgt or staff Sgt to get in. Don't quote me on that. Regulations could have changed.

Greg Wagner you have to be an nco, with atleast 36 months minimum left on contract after EOD school
