Thank you for inspiring me to continue skating. I've been skating since I was 12 (I'm 23 now), but due to school, university, and by some haters, my relationship with skateboarding has been on and off until I started to listen to The Nine Club. I've never been the gifted guy on sports and skateboarding hasn't been the exception, however, the feeling of getting on my board and pushing makes me happy and adventurous. Last year was a tough year for obvious reasons, but it was the year where I found my love and passion for skateboarding again. Now, almost every day after work, I feel the urgency and need to grab my board and re-learn old tricks and learn new ones. It's been amazing to found my love again, and a month ago I got to buy a new pair of trucks after almost five years of using the same ones hahaha. I even used your recommendations on trucks to buy them lol. Thanks for everything you do for the Ol' buddies and as Eldy said: "Do you!"

I had stopped for 5 years, started again watching the majer channel and then when I discovered this it just motivated me to skate hard. I’m trippin on the landscape being so different these days and it’s so dope to just kick back and hear these legends just chop it up and make me reminisce on what it was like back in the early 2000’s when skateboarding was my entire life. I really feel like this show does allow a personal connection for all skaters *to* the culture who maybe wouldn’t otherwise have that outlet especially with how the world is right now. I did a 2 day course on being a mental health first aider at work and this is my main take aways If you need to approach the conversation or if you notice your friend is acting differently or distance, then you need to be aware of the terms "I" and "you" "I have noticed you have been really down and distanced lately can I help with anything ?" "I have noticed you have been really down and distanced lately I am worried about you as a friend of yours, who loves you, " is better than "Why YOU sad ? " " YOU should be happy" Establish a boundary and don't enable . You are not a counsellor /doctor you are their friend. So you need to encourage your friend to call a help line . If you enable you might get a distressed manic phone call at 2am which you are not equipped to handle . So encourage to call a number and get help stressing you are not able to be a counsellor but you are able to be there to support them as a friend. From 2016 to 2017 I left a job due to an abusive boss, lost my father and had a break up . Following this I got counselling and it equipped me with cognitive tools to get out of my own head . To quote Van Halen "I been to the edge you know I stood and looked down ". 2021 love to everyone hope this helps somebody and hit me up if you want to know more or just chat.
i feel like i got to a place where friends couldn’t help me anymore, like i love my friends, but i was getting older, and along with that life was changing for me, and what i wanted out of life was changing, but then i had my son, and now my biggest fear is that i won’t be here for him, and so ima do whatever it takes to stay around for him. my point is. friends are great, but family, and especially building your own family, man, that’s something else, that’s basically everything right there. i can’t even put it into words. i thought i loved dogs, i didn’t even know what love was until i had my kid. strait up life changing in the best fucking way.
Is it ever kinda weird like you call someone you haven’t spoken to in months and you’re like “hey, man, it’s Ruok so I’m just seeing how you’re doing” or is it more just to gather up with people you frequently keep in touch with?

Depression has many levels. I think it’s important to not shame ourselves about being vulnerable. If anything, allowing yourself to be in that open space will allow others to feel they can do the same. ❤️
Just to add to the public conversation. What do you do when you’re the one constantly reaching out even Just to say hi... I’ve given up on friends that I was right with just because I felt like I was a bother when I didn’t get a message back or no holiday messages. I feel alone but I’m not lonely I luckily have support but I know how easy it is to fall into your own head and just talking does go a long way

Skaters are seen as the toughest of the tough, but if more pros and people of influence shared their struggles it will help more people than you can imagine.

it's SO HARD to want to accept help when you're in that headspace because it can get so bad where literally nothing seems worth doing or acting on, except just existing in the pain. if you do actually tell someone that you 'want to leave,' implying dying, that person who cares for you will take action to get you back on track. other times, if you can see just the tiniest glimmer of reason to learn how your behaviors, lifestyle, and/or environment is causing you to feel this way, then you might actually want to help yourself and begin taking small steps, but it can also be overwhelming depending on the toxicity of your situation. one last thing that can be a game changer, is finding a belief paradigm that makes sense to you about your existence within the cosmos. 🌟
