I love that you grow for your adult kids, not everyone can or has space for as much growing as you do and that is love right there! Be blessed. "farm life" lol
Having a homestead would be so awesome. I love how nothing goes to waste - everything is used to help something else grow❤. Praying abundant blessings for this growing season.
Thanks to my ministry, I've been inspired to grow my own groceries and Todah Yah, I've came across your channel and wow-you guys are such a blessing. I'm learning so much and is canning so thank you!
While sweetcorn if fun, get a bit of flour/flint corn to grow and grind for cornbread/tortillas/etc (Reids Yellow Dent, Bloody Butcher, and Blue Hopi are the top three I recommend, I think you've worked with Hoss Tools seed and they should have all three of those; high protein and high vitamins). Flour/flint corn stores dry and you can replant your seed. Also great feed for the chickens if you grow more than enough for the family.
You guy's really impress me. Outstanding gardening, I wish I had the health (I have R.A.) to plant on that scale, I have 17 giant tractor tires and a few livestock tanks that I grow raised beds garden, I end up with a couple dozen pots on the patio and deck, because like with chickens and potato chips, ya can't only have just one!🥰😁
You are teaching others and are so honest and sincere. The common sense some of us learned as children doesn't seem to have been taught to some of the big shots in DC. Being legal American citizens, voters, taxpayers, self sufficient people should count for something. Worrying about our country means our votes count. I get your drift...feel the same way. I wouldn't allow my children to invite 400000 folks to dinner. I know that can't be done. We need a country with borders.
This information is right on time. We just broke land to expand our garden (clay soil). I was trying to remember the amendments you all used. Thank you! Now I know what to do!!
We started with TN red clay 16 years ago , my husband had the city bring loads of leaves n He used Chicken n rabbit poop and compost for several years till it often . Our soil is now is so rich
That area is so big that isnt enough raw manure to hurt anything in that garden if you planted right away. It's going to be a great new garden area. Leaves, sticks & twigs will be really great in there. So happy to see you expanding your operation. I hope you do at least 1 sale day, selling, at the farmers market this year too.
Oh my! That is a large area to till with a walk behind tiller. After I bought the 3pt tiller for my tractor, I wondered why in the world hadn't I done it years before. What used to take hours to do with a walk behind, I can do with the 3pt in 10-15 minutes. What a time and back saver! I keep my walk behind for doing small areas where one vegetable is done early and I want to plant something for a later crop. I used to think it was good exercise and was young enough that it didn't hurt me. But when I got to that age (it's different for different people), I made the switch and, as I said, wished I had done it years before. Good video! Chicken barn compost is so good after it has aged.
done this before and started new raised beds but it never hurts to see how others do it. thank you for putting this up to help those beginners and those of us that are looking for new ideas. happy planting!
I have straw, pine shaving, hay, shredded paper and rabbit manure in my compost pile. Adding 5 more raised beds this year. Have alot of cleaned up rabbit manure saved up for planting my starts out. Keep growing my friends. It's going to be up to you. Love ya Mr & Mrs H.❤❤❤
That is great. That's a blessing to have such a large area to extend your growing in. And I'm sure you'll choose a suitable name. 🌽🥔🌽 Oh, and the compost tip was great!🐓
Bless your son for doing a wonderful job and working so hard. Lots of space for future groceries. Thank you Mr. H for suggesting to do a video on your chicken composting method, I'm really looking forward to watching that. My husband and I have 4 compost piles done at different times, but like Mrs. H mentioned it sure is tough for my husband to find time or even remembering to turn it. Easier is better, work smarter not harder I always say 😊. Over the winter I've done the deep liter method (kinda) by using wood chips and hay but the smell was pretty strong and so I cleared out most and put it in the chicken run. Chickens went to work tilling through it, honestly didn't know where to put it all 😊. We have 25 birds and 4 rabbits which provides so much fertilizer, which I'm grateful for. I'm happy to give this composting over to the Chickens and have them do the work for us. Husband and I just put together another garden bed made of cinder blocks with hardware cloth at the bottom to keep out moles and snakes. I'm 52 with some aliment but try my best and enjoy above ground gardens but have thought about expanding some of the property into ground gardens for growing corn and potatoes. Was hoping you'd talk about where you get your black garden fabric and how much it is and how much you use, this information would be very helpful. Like God's word says, " you want to eat, you work". Much love and blessings to you both, your family and your homestead. Missouri Wrightchk
Congratulations....good start for a new season. Daughter will have her corn and Mr H will get his eggplant 😊 I learn so much each time I see you guys. I am a visual learner so I'm glad you show us step by step on the videos. Thank you both.
I compost chicken mahure also. I have put raw chicken manure directly into the garden and planted the next day. Never had a problem with it. I have even used it as top dressing and mulch for my corn rows. Makes some awesome corn crops.
I wish I grew up on a farm j love this stuff...I have chickens and I'm going to start me a garden next growing season...I'm 42 and trying to do what I always wanted to do as a kid...and it will supply my family with real food
Give the new garden your oldest son’s name! He worked so hard! Almost half of it with the wheel on backwards!!! I know you guys do all the planting and such, but if you make it “his” maybe he’ll work as hard on the next one for you!!! P.S. I love you guys and all of your videos! ❤
Hello Mr and Mrs Heart ❤️ I'm just loving y'all planting space 💯%👍 maybe one day I'll have the space I want so that I can plant like my grandparents did but until then I'm going to keep on planting in my lil backyard garden and keep praying for better things to come🙏 thank y'all for sharing and God bless 🙏❣️
On the new ground, would you consider planting your most delicate crops in the chicken salad soil, some rows of potatoes (they can do well in sandy soil), then some strips of nitrogen fixing bacteria legumes (beans, peas, etc), then some small strips of onion family crops (their roots are excellent for breaking down the soil) & then more strips of above ground crops -- melons & squashes. This mix of different types of crops would get a 4 year rotation plan off to a good start!!
I do semi deep litter in the coop. I have six raised beds outside of the chicken coop in the run. When I pull it out every month I just dump it in a bed through the winter and then I stop about the middle of February and till it in. Love my chickens. We’re getting ready to open up a piece of field for a new garden spot, I wish I had done this and saved it up for that plot.
Now you all could benefit at this point, from that fertilizer injector, Hoss Tools has. Hooks straight to your main water source. With that big field of corn, heavy feeders, would make your fertilizing so fast so you won’t skip any fertilizing. Would help with all the crops, but those watermelons too😁. I don’t have one yet but my spaces aren’t this large.
I am happy to see y'all back at it you're my inspiration ❤I got chickens last spring and started my garden! I now have seedlings 🌱 growing under light in garage in preparation for this years garden! ❤thanks for all you all do for us viewing!❤
I wish you had a tractor to do all that tilling. At least you have help. I wish I was younger I enjoy my small garden. So I know you're enjoying your gardens.
Deep bedding systems are the best I use it with my cows pigs sheep and chickens. I rotate them all cows then pigs to air rate and then the sheep have their own pile in the end I bring to one big pile and the chickens scratch through and give it its final turn and nutrients. Always works out extremely well never a waste never have to use a machine besides to load and unload !!!
I have a question? Do I have to let my soil w/ manure set up for a few days before planting my seeds in my planting pots? As you showed in your video with your eldest son plowing?

Love your info. This is how I came up also. People need to get back to really living on the land.
When you till go opposite direction for next till. If you did north to south next time go east to west. Your soil will be more broken up
Yes! I'd love to see a deep litter video from you 😊
Mrs. H, you said that was your oldest son? It’s good to see members of you family. Hey 👋🏼 son!
I have a question? Do I have to let my soil w/ manure set up for a few days before planting my seeds in my planting pots? As you showed in your video with your eldest son plowing?
