Could Starmer have stopped this sale? We have a right to know. A bad service will get worse. The Czech will do the absolute minimum to comply with the universal service obligation. Has anybody observed the number of posties with walking difficulties? Time for the CWU to investigate.
Going private, it should lead to a reduction of income tax 🤔 but also lead to an increase in postal costs. It is no longer a public service but a profit making business where investments will prioritise profits. That's the way not only the cookies crumble.
A sad state of affairs. If I’m being honest it’s core business of delivering letters is probably only going to go one way in this modern age of electronic communications. I’m probably a rebellious looney left sort in my views but I think there has been too much sold into the private sector. Anyway my opinions don’t count and even if they did I couldn’t do anything.
Thats why I have been waiting 6 days for a parcel collection! won't touch the pension pot... yeah thats right, that will be plundered when it quietens down and we'll see another mirror group carve up and this golden share, that will be sold off to plug a hole somewhere. if not this year but at some time. This Czech isn't stupid, but our government are, watch the jobs go, the royal mail has been in decline for over 30 years because of piss poor management on all levels, every front line manager just towing the line in fear of losing their jobs, higher management never heard just how bad it was on the front line, I know,I was seeing it happen daily thankfully I'm out of it now, it all started when Leighton and crozier got their greedy noses in the trough. Now it's on countdown to extinction
Good riddance. Tired of getting emails stating package delivered...ok...where is it? When it was privatised...and taxpayers lost money on it...I laughed...only a matter of time before it got taken over. And here we are
Step by step, it's back to serfdom for the once proud and mighty British nation. No wonder Farages and BoJo's need to whip up a frenzy (any subject will do) to make sure the public don't pay too much attention to how it's been imprisoned (Brexit) and how the country's future is sqandered away. Tragic, really.
The letters side of it is broke. Multiple people come past here in a day delivering parcels, would make a lot of sense to have that merged into as few visits as is efficient. However, that may result in letters getting chucked in the bushes to finish a round early and existing workers being fired and rehired at lower wages which will inevitably bring down standards anyway. Probably should have stayed as state owned and never been privatised in the first place. Might have cost the tax payer to keep it going, but worth it in my book
Good Morning Prof. although I believe this 'fiasco', was started under Conservative Government. Labour appear to be behaving more like them than traditional Labour. True, we do NOT want to return to the bad old days of "jobs for life" etc. as was with previous nationalisation. But, I believe (rightly or wrongly) Labour has learned it's lesson, and would now use a different & better approach. Personally, I would like to see all utilities, & transport, in public ownership. I would also welcome the creation of a "People's Bank", as GIRO was intended to be, before the greedy Tories sold it off to their banker chums. This I believe would go some way toward curtailing the banks, which are far to powerful. Compliments of the Season to you & yours !
Karl Marx accepted capitalism but argued strongly that public utilities ( electricity, gas, water, postage railways) should all be publically owned. I agree.
In Ireland, we would never nationalise our State companies....Electricity....Rail...Water....Post...Etc... because they make many Billions in Profit for the state and give secure jobs with great pensions.....What the f....is going on in Britain.....
Ghastly! We have sold off everything in this country and in all cases the services have collapsed! We own nothing any more and are being screwed over prices and services! How could they have privatised the utilities in the first place. ScotRail was sold to the Netherlands. Arriva to Germany. And over £900million from our energy bills goes abroad each year. It’s sheer lunacy.
This is the beginning of the end of our universal mail service as we know it. All the assurances and guarantees will be void in due course and this national institution will be lost. This will happen in around 5 years I’d guess. It’s actually not such a big deal, its use is diminishing rapidly, so it cannot continue indefinitely in its present form. Sadly, this is progress Prof, no point mourning the glories of the past, as tempting as that is to me too.
Hello everybody, everything is sold or up for sale here at the uk . Just the air above us is left, no doubt someone is working on how to flog that. Isn’t it depressing?
This is the type of outcome you get from Tory policies that focus on short term gain at the expense of long term strategic and national value. People that vote Tory should stand up and be counted for this type of catastrophe. Look at what the Tories have done to rail, water, power, roads, NHS. Tories will/have sell/sold National assets just to get some revenue to bolster their propaganda on how good they are at reducing taxes. Everything the Tories have done degrades the quality of life and burdens our children's future. I am truly shocked though, knowing what has happened under 14 years of Tory tyranny I should not be.

Well, with a national debt of 120 bn GBP per year 3.5 bn will last for roughly 11 days.
What's next??
I was once proud to call myself a briton from great briton. I cant do that for fear of being laughed at.
Thanks for a good vid Prof.
Please bring us som good new and start using the daily star as you news source or is that sauce?
Call it Wenceslas Post.
The Czech's in the post.
Oh, hohohohoho, good one!
😂
Not much left to sell . 😢
Royal Mail once a great company with employees proud to work there. All gone since the sell off. No trust there no pride anymore it’s finished as a brand.
Everything used to be a good company to work for till we sold everything
Ownership is irrelevant. The critical issue is of regulation, but as we've seen with previous privatizations there is none.
how many people out of work within next few months!! gonna be a bloodbath
Let’s not forget the tories sold off Royal Mail in the first place. Then once in private hands the owner can do what they like.
And here we are
There is nothing in Britain that is not for sale to foreign investors, or that has not already been sold off to foreign investors.
This is bad nothing good can come of this, higher prices for stamps and everything else
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE. ???
They don't see national security, they see product.
I agree.
@@keithhigh7773 Me too !
In Ireland, we would never nationalise our State companies....Electricity....Rail...Water....Post...Etc... because they make many Billions in Profit for the state and give secure jobs with great pensions.....What the f....is going on in Britain.....
Kretinsky is already in Ireland with EPH at the Tynagh power plant. He's also all over Europe in a total of 11 countries.
How can these idiots destroy something so good and pure?
What idiots..... George Osbourne sold it for pennies
Brings a new meaning to the Xmas Post.
But what we need is a cancelled Czech.
Shameful and this from a Labour government. Bad deal. He can use the pension fund to invest in Royal Mail. Another Maxwell in the off
This is the type of outcome you get from Tory policies that focus on short term gain at the expense of long term strategic and national value.
Learn Russian and live there if you want propper state control. I'd suggest N.Korea or China but my guess is you will at least look like a native if you move to Russia. The tories weren't very good at controlling taxtation when they entirely capitulated to the media instigated frenzy to use tax payer money to fund COVID bankruptcy. I dont remember labour saying 80% is too much for people to sit at home doing nothing. I don't remember labour seeking looser restrictions either. Did you not hear of HS2 this was the hierarchies assessment of long term strategic and national value (as assessed both by labour and conservative parties).
I attended a Class 2 driving assessment for RM and that was enough for me, I didn’t bother going back
For sale sign board gone up in front of Windsor Castle . Any offers for the Crown Jewels ? Surely the Royal Mail belongs to the Crown. Has the King agreed to the title Royal being owned by a foreigner ?
Now thats one privatisation i would support ! Royals are at the heart of the corruption.
Mafia mail.
Claret and blue letter boxes?
⚒️
The world has become an oligarchy.
It must give up its crown protection then. They should also have to publish the contract you enter when you purchase postage.
What would Anthony Trollope say about this?
His answer is in the post!
