    Congrats on the repair, and special congrats to not lifting any traces. I swear, if you look at a trace wrong on a ColecoVision it just peels right up off the board.

      I got lucky, a couple of the traces lifted a little on one edge but were still connected enough to take solder. The TRS-80 Color Computer is also very touchy so I had some experience.

      I am very happy that it worked out, now I can do some upgrades to this one and keep my other original.

    Great job on finding those faults and fixing them and I wish you the best of luck with your MSX (great machine that). You've got me curious about what you want to do to the Coleco next time.

      The next Coleco project will hopefully happen right after I get back from CoCoFest 2023!

    Hello???
    I have a dark scrambled screen on mine… can you help me?

      In the video is a link to the service manual, it has an excellent section near the back that has descriptions and pictures of different problems and what the cause is (generally if it is not the part they mention it will be something very closely connected to it) If you have an ocilliscope it also has a very good section on what points should be showing on the board.

    Hi which kind of ram chip are compatible with the coleco?

    • @CanadianRetroThings
      @CanadianRetroThings  22 дні тому

      The Coleco uses 4116 RAM but they can be unreliable due to the requirement of +5V, +12V and -5V so with a small, simple modification you can use 4164 RAM which only requires +5V. There are a number of sites online that show you how to do the modification.

      I can't count how many times I looked at that chip before I noticed the tiny blob of green around the one leg!

      It's a great feeling when a working screen starts up for the first time!

    You really got to look into get a desoldering gun. It was a game changer for me. I bought one years ago before the prices went nuts. I love my Coleco ADAM and Venture.

      A desoldering gun is on my list of things to get! Venture is probably my second favorite Coleco game, Ladybug being number 1 for me.

    good job fixing the colecovision, seeing the process and service manual is going to help me work on mine, took mine out of storage and was going to install AV mod but I get a solid black screen with no sound

      The service manual is one of the better ones that I have seen, taking you through step by step.
