Hi Michelle. Just a tip on your dog ramp, especially for the older dogs. Put the ribbing of your carpet horizontally. It helps them get a better grip rather than sliding down. I enjoy your videos and all the talents you have. My favorite thing about you is your genuine love for your dogs! ❤️🐶

      Exactly!
My parents were both pathologists. They were scientists who never met the actual patients. Their work was all in the labs. They were neither doctors nor nurse. They were scientists.
The nurses are much closer to the actual suffering of the patients than most actual doctors are.
Many thanks for the nurses and their profession!

Hi Michelle, When I did my dog door I bought 2 of them and I put a flap on the outside and a flap on the inside wall and somehow, I put a 2 metal strips recessed on the bottom on the flat part with magnets on the part that swings and it keeps the heat in. And the magnet keeps the door aligned. And it worked great. My dog loved it.

10 years ago I picked up a clamping Jawhorse at a yard sale, that would work great to hold your wood when removing the live edge. You place the wood on the clamping surface step on a pedal and it’s not going anywhere. It has an attachment that holds a 4X8 sheet of plywood.
It folds up when not in use so it doesn’t take up space and is easy to transport.

The 'tiles' turned out better than I would have guessed. Fortunately both patterns look great so you can't really go wrong. It might be worth putting a little clear poly spray on the top of them to seal them both to seal in any lead, and to seal out any cooking fumes/spatter you will get over time.

I made a dog leg ramp for my dog knowing one day with arthritis she would need it. Basically it was parallel to the wall and then it turned and followed the opposite way. Very gradual ramp where any dog could do it. Football stadiums use the same principle where it gradually slopes and makes it easy for the older folks to manage. Hope this helps! Howdy from Texas.

You’re such a good woman, you clean the houses, you build things, Take care of all the dogs, and you still go to work. Can I make a suggestion that maybe getting Rimadyl for Clyde? When his hips hurt it worked really good with my dog he lived to be 17 years old. Also, just painting your wooden tiles with a satin clearcoat on the edges in the front? Leave the back bare wood
to have the White tile adhesive adhere to it easily . Smart using the belt sander in that application. I have done that before. I got a 6 x 24 standing belt sander. It was only like 200 bucks very handy tool.

      Thanks Dan! 💝
Clyde is on Meloxicam daily, which is basically the same thing as Rimadyl. We have used Rimadyl in the past but it’s much more expensive because of its formulation (chewable tab), but does the same thing. He does also need to lose 5 pounds, and that will help too. Now that spring is in the air, he should be more keen to have his ‘clown’ days 🤭

Nice quick fix on the doggy door ramp, to make it easier for all the fur babies, especially Clyde...and Southgate closing out the video with an appearance through the doggy door was perfect. You and Steve be safe on your trip, and hope the plan is to share some of that in a future video.

With the old tiles, that old paint might have lead in it. At the least, apply a sealer. Very clever to create your own backsplash like that. With the dog door, I'd be concerned that a cougar might slip into the house at night.

I'm not usually a fan of the weathered/distressed look, but I think those tiles are a great idea, especially in a herringbone pattern. Were you thinking of giving them a waterproof finish? That would make them more washable and also keep any paint flecks out of your food.

I have never heard of using wood as tile I think that it's a great idea. Especially since it is old reclaimed wood that really adds to the character of the wood tile. I like the Herringbone pattern too but I would say whatever pattern that would work best for the space and area that you have to cover would be the best one to use. I also thought that it was super neat to get the sneak peek of you in your nursing world. Thank you for sharing this video with us Michelle. I hope that y'all have a good one. Have fun take care

Cool idea! Keep in mind that a backsplash will get wet and the plywood has lots of nooks and crannies that will get wet and stay wet. I see rotten little boards in your future. That is, unless you fiberglass it or epoxy seal it like a table. The table idea sounds nice. Make a panel at home, epoxy it, then take it down to the cabin and voila, a custom backsplash.
