- The Swedish Strv 103 is not some pipedream of a lone genius. It's a mass-produced vehicle. A normal tank. Just without a turret. And with two engines. Also, any crew member can control it, even a radio operator. It can swim... And it can change its height: lift and lower its hull. It was designed to be a defensive fighter. So, it could hardly be used anywhere else but in Scandinavia.
So, what kind of vehicle is it? Maybe, it's not a tank at all?

never mentioned that it can dig itself down with the shovel at the front, point the hull downwards front and it will go into a dig mode and put a dirtwall infront of itself.

Actually, that's pretty interesting. If used correctly, it could be capable of clearing a minefield. With the siege mode, it can burrow the front armor into the ground and then raise it up after moving forwards about 1 to 3 feet, and then lifting the front to clean out any mines.

WG has destroyed it now, any gun over 120 mm will penet it no matter what you do. angeling dosn't matter.

One of the few tanks, sure, but I'd say the vast majority of vehicles can be driven and operated by a minimum crew of one person. That's nearly every every bicycle, scooter, sled, motorcycle, car, truck, airplane and helicopter, to name a few.

Most airplanes are not operated by one induvidual. But 2 or more depending on type. And nearly all airplanes needs ground personell to function regardless of their pilot requirements
Most helicopters follow the same they are mostly operated by 2 induviduals
Trucks are also vehicles where you for the most part need another induvidual for it to work properly at stages of use. But is in general a design for 1 induvidual
Scooter and motorcycles are generally driven with one induvidual in mind same with cars
A sled required alot more then just the driver to function... same goes for all form of animal based labour...
And if where to keep it to military use theres nearly no vehicles used with few exceptions thats designed to have a crew of 1 in mind that serves a active combat role.
To clarify theres about 10 people needed for any one airplane to do anything from lifting off to getting the clearence to strike a target.
And yes one guy can operate this tank reload it and all maintaince of it in the field by design, same cannot be said of 99% of military tech these days. Or tech at all.

Most common helicopter built has a crew of 3 at minimum 1 much like above its by design built to be effective with more then one induvidual.
Interesting concept. Made and built for hidden ambush in a pure defensive role . Very complex hydrolics system . Must be a headache to mentain . Costly too . I would like Sweden to send a few but since they are not part of NATO yet thy might not be able to do it . That Turk Erdogan vetoed Sweden's entry into NATO. Islamic snake he is.

For those interested, one of these was modified to be remote controlled. This was demonstrated to work in the field, but judged by the generals as "too futuristic", and thus cancelled. Perhaps just as well, wouldn't want drone versions of these driving around modern battlefields.

And if you reverse you topple the pile, causing enough ruckus to double the proximity spotting distance for three seconds.

It’s says a lot when the tank weights 40 tons with not turret. It has a extremely good armor but also a good frontal angle of the design. It is also strong in the sides. But almost no tank fire that fast like the s tank. It was also one of the first with laser range finder. It had many good inventions that people don’t know of. It don’t have a turret and that’s is the only negative. It’s not that easy to turn a turret in densely Forrest with much trees

It's a mainbattle tank, it was designed as such, and it fill a MBT role, please staph insulting the Strv-103.
In gameplay terms it is a tank destroyer, and there is no such thing as the MBT in World of Tanks.

***** There's no reason why it can't be both. Definition of "Tank Destroyer" from Wikipedia:
"A tank destroyer or tank hunter is a type of armoured fighting vehicle, armed with a direct-fire artillery gun or missile launcher, with limited operational capacities and designed specifically to engage enemy armoured vehicles."
It might be classified as a Main Battle Tank, but MBT's are generally defined by their versatility. This tank isn't exactly versatile, so surely you can understand why people refer to it as a tank destroyer?

The vehicle was extremely fast in turning, it arguably would be able to defend its flank better than many other tanks of its time.

Well done War Gaming for introducing a tank line that was never in any wars,forget about,Italian or Polish or anyone else who actually saw combat.
Poland doesn't have any tanks of their own above tier two or three. An italian tree might be interesting though, but hard to get tier 6-10 vehicles afaik.

Exactly as SongOfLogar said plus the fact that we can probably get another 3 lines of swedish tanks. Light tank/Medium tank line, artillery and another tank destroyer line.
I would LOVE to know how this tank would perform against modern day vehicles. I would really like to see if it can bounce a KE shell from a Leopard 2.
A few thoughts on this tank. Given the improvement of current engine designs and the need for high mobility armor.
1) Ukraine would make these a total asset on the battlefield!
2) New design incorporating electric hybrid drive systems!?
3) Adding the capability of smart munitions with drone support.
They wouldn't be much good for offensive operations in their original forms. If they had to be modified extensively to improve their usefulness, the same amount of money could be spent more effectively on tanks with turrets.

It's also known as a Tank Destroyer, thus it is a tank, while the SPGs in the game called World of Tanks are not tanks, they're armored vehicles.
Always admired this tank or is it best described as a tank destroyer. It's the ultimate development of the German Stug line of vehicles. I have no doubt that the design concept will return, when vertically launched missiles take over from gun tubes on whatever replaces the MBT.

Was the hull mounted twin machine gun setup able to aim separately from the hull? I know the AA machine gun was able to since it was on a turret, but I haven't seen any resources detailing what the hull mounted machine gun was capable of.
You aim the twin mg's just as you aim the gun, following the tracers. The commanders remote controlled mg has full 360 coverage.
Given the size of the slots, I would think there is at least some sort of control over the twin machine gun's elevation and perhaps even a little side to side movement.
Could be. But I'm definatley not sure. Must have been 12 years old (30 years ago) since I was up close to one of theese. Was allowed to climb all around the inside of it. Fun :)
History has taught that technical superiority in military weapons will never overcome numerical superiority. A dozen cheap, shitty tanks will always overwhelm a single, brilliant tank.

Built to travel in all terrains, protect its crew, be usable by a single operator and designed around a huge, main gun...this is obviously the A-10 of tanks.

It has been said that truly great engineers begin with something designed to perform a function and than start removing the bits that don't serve that function or can be replaced with something else.
1. Fact. A tank needs a stable suspension for accurate shooting and most modern tanks have active suspensions used in laying the gun.
2. If you need a stable and active suspension to assist gun laying? Eliminate the turret part. An elegant and inspired decision.
So a crew of two can sleep only half the hours because the other half exists of guard duty? That sucks donkeyballs.

What happened to the mesh that protected from HE shells? Was it removed from the second test, or do I seem like a nerd?
Tier 9 td the Strv 103 got no fence but the tier 10 td the Strv B got the fence. And the fence is there mostly to break down heat shells rather then HE. he will stil explode and deal a good amount of dmg even if it hits the fence in the game.

One component of an effective defense (which is what this tank is tailor made for) is a counter attack. I don’t know how you could counter attack with a battalion of these tanks. There’s a reasons why most tanks have turrets and similar designs. Not to mention it looks like a maintenance nightmare. I get why it was built but I also get why nobody makes tanks like this.

Still not showing off it's party piece, digging it's own ambush/entrenched position with it's dozer blade.
Put an auto loading gun with video sights on top of a low profile passenger compartment with no connection to the gun. The gun would rotate so you can drive and shoot at the same tome of course, I don't see the point of the target on top of the tank being connected to the passenger compartment.
The strv 103’s engine and transmission can be easily taken out by a well placed HEAT and HESH but it is basically invulnerable to AP, and APCR from the front
No crew should no be hurt or taken out due to a 30mm thick plate between the engine compartment and the crew compartment.
The gunner,driver and commander would not matter due to the fact that every crew has a duplicate control for every crew if the gunner was taken out, the commander or the driver can take over so If the driver was hurt or the gunner is hurt, the tank’s overall performance will not decrease unless both crew is hurt, even then the commander can overdrive the controls and drive and shoot by him self
The enemy cannot push a button if you disable his hand.

well argentine TAM tank can go up to 72 kph in reverse... so strv is not the only one that goes fast backwards

well what is a role of a main battle tank?... for me it sounds like being decent in every area. a tank that can work in attack and defence... sounds understandable but i have a hard time see it that way on this tank... strv 103 is an ambush tank pritty much same role as the tank destroyers had durring the ww2 thats why i see it as a td

It does not have a turret that can be rotated 360 degrees ( it has no turret at all :P ) and therefore it is not a tank. But in Sweden we call it a "tank" due to we have other criteria.

Not really, only everything with a calibre of 121 mm or more can pen it. That is all the mediums excluded, heavys tanks from france and america.
So the only ones able to fight it will be the Germans, Russians and japanese/chinese.
So, you can conclude, it is very op for all guns smaller than 121 mm but prey for all guns 121+
No thats all Soviet and Chinies tanks which can penetrate the S tank easily.
if they bring in the overmatch mecanic, allot of other tanks will become way more OP. they need to find an alternative way to boost the effectiveness of the swede armor. wont happen this patch but they will do it next patch, they didnt give up on the idea to make swede armor relative, they just rejected the idea of the overmatch change would FUCK things up for the rest of the game.. the already "op" russian tanks would be unkillable from the front.. gl penning the is3 and is4 turret top., not to mention the obj 140.

Artilery vehicles should have "siege mode" too. So many of them can only fire if they are deployed, if WG is aiming to be realistic.

well, modern APFSDS can pen an armor with angle over 75 degree plus

Isn't that also pretty much what 'panzerkampfwagen' translates to.
+Dawn Polhammer yes, just add "armored" in front of what I said. The less formal name for tank in Swedish is "Pansarvagn", to match the full German word you could say "Pansarstridsvagn" but nobody really would.

However, Strv itself is more of a Main Battle Tank and less of a pure TD it was classified in WoT.
