    The thing to keep in mind about s7 is that Sam's character arc centers around his Lucifer hallucinations & _Dean's_ centers around his feelings of grief & betrayal about Cas' death
    Because both arcs are brought up A Lot this season

      Ok look at it this way… people and societies developed across the world and across time in different ways and cultures…. Now think of it as it’s all the same “Gods” (not trillions of different gods for different religions), all the same “Gods” presenting themselves to each culture and groups of people in the best manner with which that specific group can relate….. also side note Santa is based off of the real Saint Nicholas…. I digress…. So imagine that it’s not trillions of gods of trillions if religions but the same ones…. Coincidentally in major religions across the globe all reference a “great flood” among other similar ideals all though inevitably wildly different ideals in some cases as well…. But that’s where you can apply what I call the River scenario…It’s base is all the same…. The River… over time one or two say hey I agree with this but not that… breaks off into a creek…. And another and another so…. Same Gods presenting themselves in the most pleasing and acceptable way to which ever group they are addressing… said group(any of them really) starts the River scenario, fast forward who knows how long truly (because we only know very little,way less then we like to think) many years later you have creeks and streams reminisce and forms of its base, the River….. ok I think I worded that right… I’m not gonna proof read cause I’m tired lol

    Speaking of real world references. There really was a man named Crowley. He founded his own occult based religion called Thelema. His first name was Aleister (also the name of an SPN character). SPN is fun in part due to the use of "real" myth and religion.

    21:21 to 36:17 I really enjoyed the conversation/debate you guys had. I get where Cameron’s coming from so I can relate as someone who grew up reading all mythologies of the world, best known ones like Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Japanese, Mayan, Hindu, and several more. For thousands of years, we’ve gathered intel on myths, stories, and even collectible artifacts from the ancient world. They came to be only because humans back in those times came up with the ideas of these gods and goddesses. Unless we have evidence of their actually existence, as in photos or footage of a god like Zeus or Thor shooting lighting or surveillance footage of our planet (humanity) being carried on the back of a celestial god-like turtle, they are just fiction, made up stories and urban legends like Big Foot, Dracula, Jack O’Lantern, Cthulhu, and the Tooth Fairy 😂
    And also for the Leviathans’ case, they are mentioned in the Bible just like angels and even the four horsemen. Unlike the versions in Supernatural, our real life knowledge on the Leviathans are that, in some legends, they are sea serpents that dwell beneath the deepest oceans, like a Kraken or a Megalodon. But in the Bible Old Testament, the Leviathan was slain by God and used as a food source for the Hebrews and used as a sigil for the enemies of Israel or something like that.

    The mythological discussion was interesting. I think another way of interpreting Cam's point is that we can't claim to know if those creatures actually existed either way. Before dinosaur remains were discovered, labeled and categorized, I'm pretty sure they were referred to as something else in the past. Any person who claims someone is wrong based on evidence of non-evidence is opening themselves to get called wrong when new discoveries are made in the future, therefore it is safe to say that you are open to information that may come later on in life. And some stories in mythology are based on real stories. I think I remember seeing an article a few years back about the discovery of Troy, a place thought not to exist and only existed in Greek myths. Also, apparently Santa Claus is based on a real person that existed around 289 AD in Turkey, a monk named St Nicholas in Patara, near modern day Turkey.

    the mythology debate at the end of this reaction was so interesting and as someone who has done classical studies at university and done a lot of research on folklore and mythology on my own time, i just needed to add my two cents to it, albeit 10 months late. what cam is saying is basically, as far as i understand it, that mythological creatures are referenced in many different times in many different cultures and because of that we *should* question if there is any kind of truth to them.
    he is certainly right that this is something of importance and it has been researched quite a lot by academics within folklore and mythological studies, a creature like the vampire is something that's seen in a LOT of different cultures throughout time, in romanian folklore it's what happens if a dead person rises again, this myth of people rising from the dead to become soulless monsters is also where we get the idea of zombies in modern cinema and literature. in this case the belief came from an anxiety felt by the living, the uncertainty of death and what happens as well as european beliefs of black magic and anything related being amoral, led to stories being spun about people rising from graves as a result of improper burial rites, dying before your time and amoral death (ie. suicides).
    another popular mythological creature, the werewolf, was also created as a response to heightened feelings of anxiety, werewolves are most commonly seen referenced in areas were actual wolves were present and a danger to the societies created. the fear of what these beast did to communities manifested in a way where they were turned into stories to keep children out of forested areas and to keep them safe from the wolves. but when a myth like this gets passed down so many times it legitimately does become reality to the people of the time. shapeshifters of this kind are seen all over the world, like the nagual jaguars in middle america where jaguars were the main concern instead of wolves.
    the conclusion is that humans as a species LOVES telling stories, it's what differentiates us from animals, when the first humans became capable of telling stories they started creating gods and beasts to explain their surroundings and as a warning for those to come. everything around us is about stories, everything from the way our governments work to currency to the very way our communities are strung together, it's all stories and mythology we convince ourselves is real.
    ALSO i just need to add that nathan's point about physical proof does make sense from a modern perspective and based on the way we're taught to interpret information. but unless you've seen it with your own eyes your belief is still based on a second or even third hand source, the pictures and videos of gigantic spiders in australia could *theoretically* be doctored and untrue, the only way to actually prove their existence is to see them yourself. these sources are to us what recounts of mythical beasts were to the people who came before us. herodotus writes in histories about flying snakes that live in egypt, these accounts are then read by the ancient greek public who gets this from herodotus as a second hand source. they have no option but to believe that what he is telling them is true because there is nothing they can do to disprove it. it does on a theoretical basis work the same way with the sources we have today.

    Leviathan were in the Bible like Cameron said, but they were also referenced by sailors in the olden times. The funny thing about the “sea monsters” those sailors saw, they were most likely various species of whales’ penises, because _that’s_ something that’s been added to my knowledge bank.

    Dragons, cyclops, leviathan, kraken etc. are mythical creatures that were conjured by ancient people finding the bones and other remains of dinosaurs, elephants, and giant octopus. Because they never actually saw the live animals, they could only imagine the creatures that belonged to these LARGE bones (usually the skull), and their imaginations were amazing!

    Sam was 22 in season 1 and 28 in this season and Dean was 26 in season 1 and 32 in this season.
    Anyway, I liked how they handled Sam's Hell trauma, especially compared to how Dean's was handled. Sam's is being treated like a person who went to Hell, spent time in the cage with Michael and Lucifer, and came back a complete mess, which is how it should be, instead of being swept under the rug like Dean's was. And yes, Sam and Dean had two different experiences, but Dean definitely should've come back more than being an alcoholic, especially because he was tortured by Alastair (the Torturer of all Torturers) and became the torturer. However, Dean's advice to Sam about how to deal with his hallucinations sounds like a man that went through the same thing, so I think that was a nice touch of letting the audience know that Dean went through that when he came back, too.
    I swear the Leviathans seem impossible to kill. And just when the boys need all the help they need to get right now, Castiel is dead, Bobby might be dead, too, Crowley is nowhere to be found, Sam is seizing, and Dean has a broken leg. Can they ever catch a break? Of course not.

    • @TBFC1985
      @TBFC1985 2 роки тому +1

      @@cyrisssmith8830 I disagree. Dean's was watered down. Having nightmares and drinking more are things Dean was already experiencing before Hell but was somehow presented like things that happened to him after Hell. With Sam, and I'm sure the showrunner/writers probably had their limits on what they could and couldn't do, at least we're actually getting glimpses of what it was like for him being in the cage with Lucifer. We never got that for Dean. Sure, he talked about his time in Hell, but where was the torturer/tortured, teacher/student dynamic between him and Alastair? So as far as short-term effects go, the presentation is better in Sam than with Dean when he was dealing with his Hell trauma.

    • @cyrisssmith8830
      @cyrisssmith8830 2 роки тому +3

      @@TBFC1985 Deans hell was actually how hell is depicted. Sams hell is an annoying narcissist trying to bug him to insanity. Deans hell is infinetly better and the way Sam's hell is depicted is so tame its downright insulting how much they're overhyping how much worse its supposed to be.

    • @TBFC1985
      @TBFC1985 2 роки тому +1

      @@cyrisssmith8830 Except we never got to see what Hell was like for Dean. Not through flashbacks, hallucinations, not even through his nightmares. And the only time we got a glimpse of what Dean's Hell was like was in season 3's finale. That's tame. Showing no short-term effects on Dean, except drinking more, that's insulting. Sam being paranoid and frightened as a result of seeing flesh on hooks, getting hung by a chain, Lucifer taunting him and playing mind games, which is on brand for Lucifer, how is any of that tame or insulting? And I'm not sure how far you were expecting a show on the CW network to go with something like this. If the show was airing on HBO or something like that, then you probably would've gotten the depiction you felt it should've been. But like I said, at least they did something with Sam's trauma when they could've swept it under the rug like they did with Dean's trauma.

    Different words relating to mythical beings were used differently in different cultures and in different media. For examples, this unfortunate leviathan. In the bible it is a sea monster. And it is usually presented this way. As a giant sea snake. But he is also sometimes presented as a multi-headed dragon. This concept is popular in other mythologies. You have a hydra in Greek mythology, for example. But the fact that a concept creates itself in many cultures does not prove anything.
    Let's take dragons, for example, or some water people.
    As for the use of bible themes in the media ... the bible is popular (because it's the oldest written fantasy in the world). So most people have at least a minimal idea of the content. And you have, for example ... I don't know. Anime. You have 2 anime (at least) titled "The Seven Deadly Sins". One is about knights who beat demons. And the second is hentai.

Either one's can be deduced however one of those deductions (the physical material) leads us to a more reliable deduction than simply a claim made by some ancient civilizations thousands of years ago.

    you don't put yourself in dean place at all & he did not change at all. he always been like that so I'm kind of confuse about your change of feeling? I'm just confuse you don't really give a good reason so i don't very get it. I think you just never understand his characters from the beginning.

    Guys, good luck trying to get through season 7, 8 and 9. They're definitely the low point of the show, but if you make it, the show gets good again at season 10.
