Nobody starves to death trying to pay for their medications in Switzerland. 6 weeks of paid vacation every year. Parental leave, day care, good schools, great retirement, great infrastructure, and wages.👍

Church tax is not compulsory - you can declare you have no faith & you will not be charged this tax.
These calcs change depending on if you own assets, property, live with codependents, earn income or have assets in other countries, age, sex & nationality.
Its nice to think these are 1:1 comparisons, but they arent.
My $140K income in Zürich as a single man saw a total of 16% of total deductions.

Pension contributions are not taxes and you have not mentioned that Swiss can deduct a lot of expenses, such as travel (train or car), food (lunches eaten out if you live too far from your home to return at noon, dependents, and pension payments are also deductible. Each canton and commune has a different rate as well, but in general you could expect taxes to be 15- 25 % depending on those deductions. If you own a home, you can also deduct the interest payment on your loan and renovations as well.

Pension Fund Contributions certainly are not taxes, Insurance may not be either depending on circumstances. In the US you have Federal & State Taxes, Property Taxes (on Homes & Autos), Social Security (like pension case above), Medical Insurance Costs and also out of pocket (medical/dental/vision) - since Switzerland provides this) to be fair you'd compare the cost of equivalent accident insurance and unemployment insurance too. You have to compare apples to apples on costs & benefits. Most Swiss get paid well relative to similar jobs in other countries too.

this is good information BUT to compare to US you can't just look at our taxes. Their taxes likely cover a lot of things that we pay for separately. For instance you would have to add in our property taxes, what we pay for insurance, what we pay out of pocket for healthcare, pharmacy, day care, etc. You can't just compare taxes, you have to compare total costs and what you get for your money. You would also have to figure out how to compare the $ value of the 14 weeks of maternity leave and 4 weeks of vacation time that everyone gets there.
