Master of subharmonics!
Most newbies would say that that was a chest note especially with the G#1
Unfortunately, I think Ken’s voice has done the opposite of most bass singers and gotten higher as he got older because the clips from his youth(especially in chest voice) were a lot fuller sounding
It's actually quite common for voices to shift higher at very old age. Though basses tend to peak at around that 30 to 50 yrs age range, as they keep on getting older their voices actually higher and they lose range. This is due presbyphonia which is the degeneration of vocal cords, and due to this the cartilage become bone, so decreased flexibility. Larry Hooper was a good example of this
@@reubenthomas7907 True. When Larry Hooper was young he could sustain a powerful Bb1 but years before his death the lowest he could go was only decent D2.
@@reubenthomas7907 Where did he hit A1? Is there any recording? I only know of Bb1 in Mr. Bassman.
This guy has such a strong subharmonic singing! He's subharmonic note are so strong, that make similar to chest notes.
Ken has one of the most beautiful voices for sure.
His slides into the subharmonic register are FLAWLESS. Even better than Geoff and Dan Mirabal's ! How the heck is that even possible !?
Thanks for the compilation, fantastic as always.
Omg bro your absolute master for finding these bro !!!!!!
the best compiled I ever found on youtube
London and JD are two examples. Both of them love drinking as well as smoking. London died in his pretty early age(only 61 years old). Jd dies later at age of 74. The same condition apply to Paul Downing(who died in only 59 years old). So far, the bass singer who have the longest life-span is Thurl Ravenscroft, who died with age 91.
Thank you very much for this video.ken is legend to me
May God keep on blessing you
Another fantastic compilation. I would argue Ken was the first to master subharmonic. Personally I feel if one wants to go lower that fry is better if you do it right and sparingly. You can achieve lower notes and don't risk the voice switching back to the original note like you can hear in some of Ken's live singing. I wish you had put in the clip of the middle of "Just A Little Talk With Jesus: when he sings "And you will know" That is lower than the end and has much more clarity and is likely the lowest note one can hit in subharmonics.
excellent compillation! He not only nailed the notes, he could hold them with the same power for several seconds, he wouldn't just tag it and go to a higher note.
He was/is low bass for sure. His B1 was super clean! I really like hearing those vintage recordings from the 70s? Earlier?
Maybe he's the first bass singer did master the subharmonic technique, just my opinion.
It's an ancient technique, Russian Orthodox church octavists use it for centuries. Rachmaninov knew a man who could hit A0 consistently.
0:37 C2.
dear god that is INSANE!! Hahahahhaaaa I can' t believe his skills!!
3:46 what song is that? i would love to listen to the full song if anyone has the link to the video
Ken turner keeping exercise even he turned to his old age, and he never smoke or drink. Not like other bass singers.
do you have the link for this video 2:30? 😁😁
Can we get the links to these videos in the description? There arent that many videos that I can find of Ken Turner on the internet
Any list of the songs used?
Can someone tell me the song in the first clip? It sounds really nice.
Can I suggest a low note complication of low notes that are sung off microphone?
Do you have the full video for 9:06 where they sing heaven for me? I really like that version of it
what was the very last song called?
Now I know I burp at C1
What is the video link for 3:32 of him! Please
Is there a link to the full vid at 16:15
What is the song at 13:24 PLEASE ANYONE
15:43 ❤
You know that Ken is good when I have to switch to subharmonics for his chest notes ;-;
If i can hit a B1 does that mean im correctly using the subharmonic technique? Or can i naturally be that low? and so using subharmonic technique should bring me to B0?
If you are able to naturally hit B1, you can use subharmonics to hit B0. If you are unable to sing B1 without subharmonics, you cannot sing B0 using the subharmonics technique. Hope this helps
@@thesignpainter3272 actually you could if you did a 2nd subharmonic to take it to I believe E1 and then a third subharmonic to take it down to B0
6:23?? What song is that
What is the name of the last song?
Such a great voice... Why did he only sing the one song?
@4:45, Cool Terrence Mckenna cameo tho.
What’s the song at 12:27?
his lowest chest note is actually Bb1. the F1 is clearly subharmonic, the G1 is a C2 and the G#1 is the hardest to discern but the timbre on it sounds much more similar to his other subharmonic notes than it does his various chest Bb1s. he's also a baritone but i dont think this comment section is ready for that conversation yet lol
you're right about baritone, hes a lyric one. Also i think G#1 was really chest, i listened to it hundred times and it sounds still chest, he also did G#1 ( chest) in the song Roll On Jordan
13:12 ❤
Name of all song of ken Turner in this vídeo plis
16:15 ❤😮
Whats the song a @2:00?
What's the first song?
18:14 THX INTRO
Do you have the link for this video 7:54
someone's finally uploaded it, it's TWilson and the song name is "talk about jesus"
And in 20:36?
The second one was C natural but cool video
22:17 is B0 to be correct ✅
C1 is around 33 Hz btw
I hate how a D2 is my lowest note and a C#2 is the highest in this video 😂
That's awful. My lowest notes is C#2 and rarely C2 so i usually can sing with Ken when he sings C#2
Hi, friends! Can you tell me where I can find Mr. Ken Turner's contacts? Maybe an email?
He is very old so he definitely doesn't have an email. i don't even know if he is alive. I hope he is though. It will be very said if he has died
That’s why his voice became higher when he is old. Other bass singers smoke and drink wines at the same time to maintain or even expand depth but this behavior will damage their body health( causing heart attack for etc.), and the resonance of their voices will also lose.
I wonder if he's a soprano 🤔
Lo mas bajo que hizo fue un A0
cosa que muy pocos han logrado
13:05 un silvato
Oh, bots...
I just reported one.
9:11 is subharmonic probably
@@someguywithhair6439actually it is a subharmonic it’s thinner and and not as thick sounding and it’s louder so your right
Why JD Sumner hated him? Only for subharmonics?
jd hate him? I've seen Ken saying in several videos that they were friends
C#2 is the lowest note I can hit consistently without strain and its the highest note in the title😢
what if Bible-accurate Angels sound like him
The C#2 at the beginning in like maybe a few months or years even I will be able to hit. Edit: I'm half correct.
My voice is developing as well, I hit C#2 once, but I was sick and my voice was worn out. My natural range at the moment is more around Eb2 in the morning. Hoping it'll develop to get lower.
@@tommax1626 Well, progress is slow. I can now often hit a D2 in the morning. (using chest voice) subharmonics are really hard to do, and I cannot do them very well at all, but maybe I'll get more comfortable with it overtime.
Only Bb1 of chest... one of Weakest chest voices (from sgm basso profundos pattern) but the subharmonics are quite fine(if he is the best sgm bass who relies in subharmonics). Awesome.
I don't think he can be considered basso profundo. More like a lyric bass as he doesn't seem comfortable below C#2/C2. The range doesn't matter because there are singers like Josh Turner who can sustain A1 being a lyric bass-baritone. Ken's comfortable range is a few notes above basso profundo range.
@@MultiKamil97 he is a bass at all but can also be a basso profundo because he has a Bb1
Ken is not a natural bass. Baritone singing bass. Very audible from his passaggi.
I gotta be honest here. The man has talent, but those low notes just doesn't sound good on their own
Millennials: "How are we gonna do a dubstep bass drop without our computer!?"
Ken Turner: "Hold my soul..."
A trumpet mouthpiece and a plastic pipe 😎
